Clouded skipper larvae feed mostly on grasses and belong to the grass skipper family. The adults are erratic flyers and sit with their forewings at a verticle angle over their hindwings which are on a horizontal plane. The configuration resembles an F-15 Eagle fighter jet.
The Clouded Skipper ranges from northern South America to the US south and southeast, and is common in the south where it flies year-round. It strays northward to New York most years, usually reaching there in late August to October.
