2009 Blooms Yeah!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

SR's have very strong stems that do not need staking.

I am so ready to have lilies blooming - we're a ways from that, but are sure getting some nice, tall stalks. Seeing pics from you all sure helps while we're waiting! Please keep posting those pictures of your gorgeous blooms - let us all live vicariously for a bit longer LOL ^_^

Beautiful!

Those are pretty, Aggie. My neighbors have some of those that look very much like your St Joseph's lilies (amaryllis) but we don't have any. I did stick an amaryllis in the ground in Feb. that I had had in a pot that hadn't bloomed for two years and guess what it has a bloom stalk! LOL Other than that haven't had much experience trying them outside.

Becky, I agree with Moby that the SR's have very strong stems but I do stake the ones that get really tall with large numbers of buds - when the flowers open up mine do lean somewhat but not horribly so lik a Trumpet would with spindlier stems. Plus it can get windy here so that can be an issue.

Jamie, you'll be blooming in the cool Pac NW while we're burning in our summer inferno down here! LOL

Here yas go, Diann - peonies and lilies at the same time! bwahahahah!

Steve! That did it. That pix made me have the urge to check my lilies bed one more time before I call it off for the evening. lol. Nicely done!

Thanks Kim :-) Trust me though, was more of an accident than anything! LOL

Pictures of this years blooms, so very nice. Here I am still planting for this years crop. I don't think any lily is up more than about 8 inches yet and most are not that tall. In fact, some that were planted last spring are just breaking ground now, I was thinking they might be gonners but this hot weather seems to have gotten them to show up.

vossner- I love that combo in your pictures of the rose and lilies, especially that first shot. The colors are so yummy looking together. Personally, I really love the look of roses and lilies, I have lots of them planted in amoungst my roses and just keep adding more.

tracie- I love your St Josephs lilies even though I don't think they would be hardy here.

Steve- Another great combo with the yellow and those deep purple peonies.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Steve, that combo is FANTASTIC!!! My most effective combinations tend to be accidents. I never would have thought I'd see Lilies and Peonies blooming at the same time here, but Lilies seem to do their thing earlier here than my last garden, so I may just have to try and copy that! Several of the Lilies here are 3' tall now, and a few are closer to 4'! Its odd to me that some are just emerging from the earth now too.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

ditto that Steve's combo is fabulous

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Stevie, Stevie, Stevie!! That is a lovely combo. I think it would look great in my gardens! :) LOL You're coming to Iowa when? I could sneak down and well, visit your gardens and do some shovel pruning for you. No wait, you have those killer guard doggies on duty, don't you! LOL It really is a lovely combination, though! :)

Thanks everyone - I appreciate the nice words! I am looking to see how it looks as the plants mature some more ^_^

Diann I'll have the watchdogs keep an eye on you :-) We'll see what the Roundup Santa brings you.

Andrew that looks very fragrant - I can almost smell it from here! I l;ove the scent of Orientals too though some of them can get overpowering at times. Beautiful flower!

Geez, those Himalayan Lilies look like flowering trees they are so big. How far around would you day that the stems are? I would say they are very attention getting.

The only place I can think of to plant something that gets that tall is in a semi shady spot. It does show in the catalog sun/part shade but I still don't know about the part shade.

Do they smell nice?

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

the same as other trumpet lillies

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

this was a mixed package. So, it it virused? This is the 2nd year in my garden. It did not display these markings. Have to remove, right?

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Those aren't true Lilies, but are in the Lily family. I have no experience with them, but have read several reports of them not returning reliably, or rather it takes time to reach blooming size, then the bulb splits into smaller bulbs and you have to wait for them to mature to see blooms again. I would sure love to see a stand of them growing in person!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Nery, sadly, yes, that looks virused. Dig and put in plastic and into the garbage. And make sure to wash your tools you use and your hands (or gloves) well before handling any other lilies (or anything for that matter, LOL).

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

well, what does it mean that they didn't display this last year but YES this year? Does it mean something in my soil? or it is the bulb?

sigh, and they were so pretty.....

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I would love to see a display of the Himalayan Lilies in person myself. I just can't quite get the picture in my mind of ten foot tall lily looking flowers.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Nery, could be that the infection hadn't spread throughout the plant yet last year when it bloomed. I've found a couple every year since I got some bulbs from bloomingbulb that were infected :-(

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

i think these were from BB
