Other half of the previous bed. Don't know how to get larger pictures. Will have to have one of my kids help me with it.

Maxine- Your beds and lilies are absolutely gorgeous. The border of terra cotta pots is just darling.

Magnolialover-Love all your lilies! Such a beautiful collection!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

If only I had all that room Maxine. Your beds are great.

Thanks mattsmom. Very kind of you to say.

One more, then I am off for local garden tours, before driving lady to Eau Clair.
So glad that everyone likes my mish mash of planting flowers. I love the English cottage look and have tried to duplicate it.

Beautiful lilies Mags. :) Can't wait to see them in person! :)

Maxine, your gardens are lovely, but one question, what are those Garden Nomes doing in that second picture? It looks like one is mooning the other! LOL You have acheived that "Cottage Garden" look. :)

Magnolia, is your Samur lightly fgragrant? Please go sniff it and get back to me. I have one that looks like Samur (mislabelled as Lollipop) and it is fragrant. There are a few tiny spots on the lower portion of the petals, but not the narrower sepals.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

It is lightly fragrant, I never noticed that.

A closer look inside 'Samur'

What do you think pard?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Magnolia, that looks like it down to the pollen and stigma color but I just don't see the little spots :-( I guess it will remain a NOID, but a very nice one. It was quite tall the first couple of years, about 5 feet. Thanks!

pard, here's mine for comparison.

Thanks, revclaus. Do I see two little darker color spots on that petal? As you can see from my latest photo effort here, these specks are insignificant and don't make a statement as such. But all of these lilies produce this same trait, as well as the fragrance. It is especially noticeable today because it is hot here.

pard, I went out and looked at today's blooms, and you're right. Those are spots, not many, but definitely not pollen that dropped down. Almost every one has them. And yes, they are very lightly fragrant. I didn't realize that until coming back home one day into our air conditioned apartment where they was a bouquet of them in the living room, and the whole house was permeated with the slight fragrance of those lilies.

Pard, look closer at Mags Samur again. I thought I saw little spots, they are faint, but they look to be there...

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Maxine beautiful spread you have! I have been looking a year for a nice country plot. Some place where 12 houses don't have a constant few of me gardening :*) It is nice to see people smile at all of the flowers but...

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

You know, I do see those purple spots on 'Samur', they just aren't identical on each one. So I bet you've got it pard.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Another few lilies for thought..
how about 'Visa Versa'

Or the pretty reverse on this cute little trumpet?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

This 'Queen of Hearts' looks more pronounced than the other I posted. It is another bulb. I wonder if they are both the same or perhaps it's a strain type of deal. I like this one a bit better, it's more spotty.

Thumbnail by magnolialover
Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

It's hard to believe that for a while there was a wave of going "spotless" on lilies a while back, trying to breeds the spots out of lilies. Can you even imagine having all lilies, none with spots?

Well we certainly wouldn't have 'Queen Coral'. This is 'Queen Coral' from 2006, I bought another in 2007 and Buggy said this one would have a new look, it hasn't bloomed yet, but I will compare when it does (so this must be a strain).

Thumbnail by magnolialover
Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

The Queens as a group are a strain and the named Queens are individual selections of the best from the strain. Buggy describes the Queens as:

"...bred from the early blooming Rosario and Golden Elegance Lily. "

So I guess my question here is, did Buggy replace Queen Coral with a better clone selection or is she creating a strain of similar patterned/colored lilies under the Queen name (in this case Queen Coral, if you can understand what I am getting at, lol).

I must say she has done a good job hybridizing and selecting her Queens!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Intercessor, I fully understand where you are coming from, especially when you are a pollen dauber. Neighbors tend to think you are nuts. I have tried to explain to my neighbors on each side of my backyard. Since I have a cyclone fence they see EVERYTHING that goes on. Like I explained to mags in a dmail earlier, I finished up late last night and had to get my mini flashlight and hold it sticking out of my mouth so I could free up my hands and complete my pollen collecting and foiling. I can only hope no one saw that but...

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

She really has done a great job with the Queens. Love that they are heat tolerant too, so planted in the sunniest of sun, they do well. I'll have to ask her about 'Queen Coral', because I didn't think much about it last year when she told me that. I'll wait though for the other 'Queen Coral' to bloom.

Like you two, I need about twenty acres and not only the space it gives, but the peace and tranquil it gives as well. This time of year I am out at all hours pacing the yard. Pard, you should have called me, I'd have held that flashlight for you, probably learned a thing or two in the process ;).

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

LOL Connie, I may have been seen in that exact situation on occasion. I am thinking a miners/hiking forehead light would be perfect.

Yeah Tracey some place where Google Street View cameras won't see you again ;*)

Orientals are nice but I am starting to wonder about their longevity up here. I have 3 dieing that I planted last fall and another that I planted 2 years ago :*( 'Klaxon' was 4 feet plus and just withered away. Some of my other Buggy O's look good though.

If I could just figure out the soil ph testing at home...

I work in the sporting goods dept at walmart and we have 12 ft of flashlights and there are headlights starting at $4.88 up to about $20 depending on what you need. It is a huge part of the flashlight sales these days. When I started there (in sporting goods) back in 1994 we only carried one style/brand--now there are about 7 or 8 different one. Plus some that clip to the brim of a cap (both with the flashlights and the fishing accessories). Too much information I'm sure:LOL:

Moby,
Good to see your sweet face . . I miss you!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks ~ wouldn't it be nice if we could all get together and picnic spring, summer and fall? :)

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Moby, that is TOO cool!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

pard, should we send you one? ;) It looks like a caveman supply.

Here's a couple new ones from today.
'Purple King'

This one swelled for days ( and I really mean days) before it finally popped.
It is less fragrant than any LO that I have. One of the things I love about the LOs is their fragrance, this one is faint, if any. Very pretty though, to look at.

You want to send me a Purple King? Sure, I'll take it. Or you want to send me a fancy shmancy flashlight? No matter what I wear or use back there my neighbors will think I am weird...

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I have any idea to keep those neighbors going...put one on in front of your head AND in back, so everywhere you turn, there's light. Like the pard Christmas tree :)
