Summer Lilies 2008 Part 3
lilies for breakfast . . . hmmm
arlene, I too have lots of young spindly lily stems in my gardens. In my case I am sure it is because everything is so crowded that the stems were held up by the other plants and didn't have to get strong on their own. When the winds and storms came they were fair game to be whipped around and laid on the ground.
How about some Tobin for breakfast. This is an outfacing lily but since it only had one flower this year it is looking to the sky.
Oh no ~ we'll hope for the best for your babies.
Susan ~ looks like the same yellow NOID I have in my garden.
Thanks for the lovely breakfast, so sweet I may have to go back to bed and take a nap. ;)
Is Andrea kay from Cocker's Daughter series? Very nice!
The Cockers sure had a knack for coming up with beautiful color blends for all of their 'daughters'.
Yep, Cocker's daughters. I'm not sure Kathy Jan made it, I'll have to go pull weeds to find her if she's there!
Wow, wow, wow, I miss one day in here and the place explodes with color!! You all have such beautiful lilies!!
TLC, your courtyard is wonderful!! It will be so much fun at your house next year for the IARU!
Moby, I happen to like your "Yarden." I think it has plenty of charm for being a new "Yarden." I can't wait to see how it evolves. It will be even more wonderful.
Jmorth, wow, you really do have some lovely lilies there. And you map your gardens? that in itself is an accomplishment.
Lilyfan, as per usual, your lilies are stunning. I wouldn't expect anything less from you. :)
Susan, your lilies just never stop? I like that yellow NOID. Yellow is such a happy color.
Perennial, beware, this place is addicting and there are a bunch of enablers loose in the place.
Mainiac, when do we get to see some of your lilies?? Hmmmmmmmmm? :)
Lovely, just lovely everyone of them. Please keep the pictures coming!!
Diann
Wow Ilily that Red Raven is a stunner!
llilyfan, what type of lily is Olina? It's gorgeous (as are most of yours) and really unusual.
Diann, that's usually what happens to me! I get so far behind................
Steve, I love my dark lilies, now I just need to get them in the right settings in my gardens.
Everyone, there have been some of the most beautiful lilies posted here. My lust list has grown considerably!
How about a Blackbird. I was a little disappointed in the color, but it is a bright cheerful little thing.
It is an asiatic, sometimes it is listed as one of the Tango lilies. I bought mine as an asiatic clone of Olina. Somewhere I have/had a tango that is called Starburst and looks very similar, the tepals are a bit wider on it I think. It really gets confusing at times because there are registered lilies which are named and then there are named lilies which are not necessarily registered.
This is 'Russian House' sweet, not dramatic, but I like it.
That one fits it name or vice versa, I love it!
I just checked the Lily Registry and neither Olina nor Starburst are showing up as registered lilies.
Yep it sure is confusing, I've tried real hard not to be too picky about the names, but if you are going to show them as registered lilies the names must be correct with the description listed. You can show named but unregistered lilies they just go in a different division or section.
Lilyfan, your Lilium tsingtauense is the true species, unlike most that are floating around (and including mine, I found). Tsingtauense flowers are upright as yours are, not downfacing, or outfacing as is mine. Mine is apparently a natural cross of L.tsingauense and L.distichum, sometimes classified as L.miquelianum (as taxonomists can't decide).
My plants are never very floriferous, priducing 5 to 7 flowers at the most. This, even though they never produce seed.
Thanks leftwood, I had wondered if it was possible I could have the real thing, and knew there was some controversy about wether most are true L.tsingtauense, but I've never searched to find out. This is last years picture and one of the blooms has an outward appearance, each stem had 2 blooms last year.
You all are breaking my heart. So many beautiful lilies....but there is absolutely no where in my garden for anything else. I do have 25 orientals coming from ..ahem do I dare mention vnengelen..and I have no idea where to put them. I love lilies... I just love everything else too.
Oh Time, a stem of lily takes up so little space there is ALWAYS room for one more!
tsingtauense? how do you even pronounce that? Sue, you just amaze me with all your lilies.
So maybe my beds ARE getting crowded; I just some of those were spindly because they were young 'uns. I better be coming up with a plan of how to remedy that.
My daughter and grandaughter will be arriving tomorrow from CA for a weeks visit so I won't be on much. Hopefully by then my daylilies will kick in and start blooming. They are very behind this year.
Ah Sue, your lillies make me smile. :)
Diann
Botanical Latin is really an unspoken language, thus pronunciation is not critical, but this would be close:
tsĭng-tah-ū-ĕn-say
Now run it all together. If you have trouble, forget learning Russian. LOL
Here in Oklahoma we would pronounce it
" that there prudy thing "
I like the Okie pronunciation the best ^_^
Oh my - what beauties! My Asiatics are just now starting.....
Moby, love Anita Gail and Sally.
TLC, Menton is beautiful, and are your entire gardens.
Lilyfan, What an awesome collection. Your seedling and Andrea Kay, Calgary Tower, Redskin, Olina - I couldn't pick a favorite if I had to.
I always love that Royal Sunset! It's a great lily! All of them are nice. ;) Polka Dot Bikini is cutey...
Oh, Moby! Royal Sunset is wonderful! I lust for that one.
