Summer Lilies 2008 Part 3

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Thank you, Steve.

I'm still working at how to do a composed garden; not easy for me.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

The Iowa R-U is going to be here at my home next year and I think I will be needing to thin out these beauties. . . of course so I can buy more.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Wow.... why don't you guys come play in my yard?? I know my yarden is a young 'work in progress' but I find it's very lacking in the charm department. Thanks for the compliments, but I selectively point my camera. ;)

This is what it looks like from my patio ~

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Several things:
1. Moby, I wish I had your problem!
2. photo of "regale"
3. I stay away from asiatics because of the asiatic lily beetle. Does anyone know a good and easy way to deal with them (preferably without deadly chemicals)?

Moby,
You have a HUGE yard; wow. I am like a postage stamp compared to you.

Welcome perennial; you sure came to the right spot; aren't these lilies lovely?

Someone else will have to speak to the beetle.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

There sure is some eye candy posted here. Only have a couple of LA's blooming now other that the martagons.

Thanks for the welcome TLC. I found the lily beetle thread, so I guess that question doesn't belong here. Here's one of my few asiatics - don't know the name.

seems none of mind survived the move . oh well i got tons of stuff but its disappointing some i never got to see bloom

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

tazzy, between the deer and the rabbits I can relate, there are some that I've not seen bloom in 4 years and this year there was no sign of about a third of my lilies.

Hello, and welcome perennialyme! Beautiful regale. :)

Unfortunately lily beetle damage is not exclusive to asiatic lilies. Here's some info for you ~ http://www.uri.edu/ce/factsheets/sheets/lilyleafbeetle.html

Peter Pan is darling. But aren't they all great? Fancy or plain, name or not, they all capture your heart just the same.

Thanks for all the welcomes and lovely lily photos, and Moby, thanks for the link! And to think that I thought I may have had the beetle problem licked. But I could swear that they much prefer the asiatics. I have so far this year only found half a dozen or so of the critters, so haven't had to commit major genocide, where in the past, before they decimated my asiatics, I could hardly keep up with the problem. And as I recently traded for a clump of turks caps with some holes in the leaves, I wonder if these half dozen may have been imported in the soil. I suppose I should knock on wood and be prepared for a possible deluge in case.

Wow, "Calgary Tower" is fabulous!! I need to get my hands on that one, LOL

^_^

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I was thinking the same thing:lol: Such great lilies and plantings.

It's odd but most of the lilies that I bought last year and planted out front (orientals) have come up but really looks like young seedlings with only one flower. They weren't baby looking bulbs but I guess they could have been young enough for this to be the case. Hoping that means a much better season next year:)

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

dmac,
I have lots of those little singles; a lot laying on the ground sideways and blooming; these are ones I've had a while. If I just leave them will they be stronger and better next year?

Does anyone have ideas about more companion plants for underplanting? The coleous is working well for me and the mini hostas.

Most of my gardens are not well composed. . . something I need to work on.

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

perennial, I was remiss in welcoming you to DG and the Lily forum...............Welcome!

Steve, I planted 1 bulb of Calgary Tower in the fall of 2006 and this is what the clump looks like this spring. Not too bad for a terrible winter and spring. I only remember 1 stem last year.

Very nice Ililyfan, Olina really catches my fantasy...

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

now if I was Moby I'd have something to say about that fantasy comment, but since I'm just me I'll post another lily.
