Post your early bloomers

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

weegy - I need to see those two a bit closer --- just send them to me in a big box! ☺

they are beauties whatever they are......I love the color! I'm not good enough to be able to see a difference in them though.....

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

The only difference these old eyes can see between the 2 is that the one labeled Master Plan has an off white color on the F. and the one marked Chatter is a little whiter.
Thanks for that info tigger.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

LOL, mrs j! I'm going to examine them a little closer in the garden and jot down what I can see. There is just a little difference in them but so hard to tell, I need new glasses!

South Hamilton, MA

Dark Vader in AZ? It is an SDB.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

OK I am a iris newbie. I only have a couple so what does SDB mean? Weegy reserve a huchfudge for me. I will place my order when I am out there!!

Marie -- "Standard Dwarf Bearded"

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Ok you got it Marie. ^_^

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Can someone take a look at this post I made above...Post #4751932... and tell me if you think it might be Satin Satan? Thanks in advance.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

weegy - Satin Satan seems more purple to me than your photo.....but I am finding that color photos are not as reliable as I thought.....

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You are right mrsj...the colors seem to vary from state to state and zone to zone? Oh and camera to camera!

Here's a Louisiana, can't find my list right now to tell you which it is.

Karma-
wow...love your noid...does Dee's suggestion of Pink Pele ring any bells, or sound familiar as one you may have bought before?

that glint is really cool, too. I love the little guys, and you just added two sdb's, to my wish list, lol...especially the pink/orange one

Big blue bearded iris.

A friend did a test, had me download 5 iris pictures on CD and bring to his store, put them up on 10 different moniters and WOW you would not have believed that they were the same iris...so different.

Plus you have to remember that soil, amount of water, PH, fertilizer, location etc can make a big difference as well...

The best way to ID any iris in the garden unless one that is sooooooooooo diffierent like Starship Enterprise you need to plant one that is correct from a reliable grower and place it next to your NOID and check that way...

A test we had a long time ago was to take blooms out of the garden of simple ones to see if you would spot how different yet alike they were...you would be amazed at the end results.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Thanks Dee for that, you are so right. Just take a look at some of the irises in the PF and even though they ARE the same one, the color is just a little different.
I sure love those blue irises. Thanks for sharing.

South Hamilton, MA

The small blue irises are I. reticulata (from bulbs) We have just one in bloom, very dry last summer so didn't order any new ones. Hope to do so this fall.

South Hamilton, MA

Hey weegy, you can type faster than I can.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

DarkVader won't grow here?

South Hamilton, MA

I'm not sure where in AZ you are, but if you don't have a period of cold, standard dwarfs are not happy. If you are at a higher altitude they might be ok.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

It gets in the high 20's at my place. That is not a constant though but usually I am 10 degrees colder than the rest of the valley.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Yes iris, when you spend all day on the computer and not doing what you're supposed to be doing, you get pretty proficient at typing!

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

Here's another Dutch Iris, Oriental Beauty.

WOW! Gotta have that one!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

I second that wow!!

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

She's tiny, but oh so pretty. I was needing a pick me up this morning when I found her blooming. It was a very nice way to start my day.

If you look closely at this picture you can see my luminescent helper. That grasshopper followed me from one end of the bed all the way to the other. It made for good company. I am just sorry he didn't photograph too well.

Big isn't always better! That's a great shot of your helper! I'm glad you had those 2 things to pick you up. Nothing like an unexpected bloom to brighten your day.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

Weegie, I have Satin Satan and it is a very dark purple. Your 4751932 is sort of a medium blue -- to me. More like Yaquina Blue or something like that, not dark purple.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Thanks Paj, I will check Yaquina and see if it's close. Yeah, mine isn't dark purple at all. I asked because it is coming up where Ka-Nee-Tah is supposed to be and right next to Satin Satan. Thanks again.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Could it be a seedling Louise?

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Innocent Star blooming today.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Very nice Doss!
I don't know if my unknown is a seedling or not, nothing in that garden comes even close to it. I received some of the ones that it is planted with from a friend, maybe an odd one got mixed in. I don't know what it is so out it comes this summer along with many other mislabeled.
Thanks for your help anyway.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I think this is "Victoria Falls", I only planted 2 that were more or less solid blue, the other - Scented Bubbles - appears in photos to have a blue beard, this one is more white, so for now I am going with Victoria.....I'll be watching subsequent blooms to compare...

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Victoria like to fall so if you find her prone you got the right name LOL
its true fact about this iris.honest

St Joseph, IL(Zone 5b)

I finally looked into this thread and WOW. Beautiful blooms. I can't wait 'til mine start here in ole Central IL. I'm ready for some color in my yard!! Thanks for sharing all of your early pics.

Lebanon, OR

With our weather here, nothing for color and right now it is hailing very hard...

I am past ready for some nice weather.

D

South Hamilton, MA

Just reticulata in bloom here. I posted a question on Texas gardening about iris bloom in Austin. I will go back to it later. I think the daffs will open in a couple of days here if we get some sun.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I got about 30 pictures of blooms yesterday but think I'll only post my favorites. Don't want to bore anyone here.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Someone should start another thread - this one is getting too long!

Lebanon, OR

NOt fair, nothing here with this cold wet weather we have had.
Last year first bloom 3-22 there is not even a bloomstalk here.

Post away, I need a fix until I get to Nationals.
