i am very new to iris. i just planted my first iris last fall. most are NOID that folks here on Daves kindly traded or outright gave to me! two of the NOID are already blooming. i was so excited since i wasnt even sure i would get any blooms this year. oh, btw, if anyone know their names (which i am sure is not easy to determint) please let me know. thanks

I will post mine when they bloom -- in late May. In the meanwhile, yours are really pretty. I am very taken with both Arctic Express and Chaifa. I like Floorshow, too. Sigh. I am happy that someone has iris in bloom. In the meanwhile I am checking out all the iris catalogs and web sites.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

Always beautiful! I'm going to have a weak iris show this year since removing the old stuff and starting fresh (some I got from you;) so I'm going to be extra happy to see everyones photos this season.
I remember last year when you posted the photo of Fan Flare in the co-op and everyone went nuts for it:lol:

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I remember that too. I can't find that picture now from last year.
Yes, I'm very fortunate that the irises are starting to bloom, the weather has been so spring like, but rain tomorrow I hear. That's ok, makes the soil nice and soft for weeding.
Please do post your pictures when your irises bloom. These are the only ones I have blooming now but there's lots of buds. Can't wait.
Very pretty aggiegrl!

This is our first and only so far, except for the yellow water Iris. Here they don't bloom very profusely.
Can you ID it for me, weegy12?

No I can't ID that pretty one Trois, but is it a spuria iris?

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I am pretty sure it is a Japanese variety.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Some of them are so similar it's hard to tell. I do know for sure a tall bearded iris when I see it!

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

That's the only kind I can be sure of, although I do have a couple of Louisiana Iris.

I'm on an earth tone iris kick right about now.
Anyone see "Spooky"? new IB from Keppels. ~ I love it!
I'm looking for anything that compliments that for a grouping.

Weegy,
You have the most interesting iris I have seen. Mostly of them I have not seen before. Doss I love Spring Jade, another I haven't seen before. Subtle and beautirul.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Thanks paj and I'm glad you're enjoying them. Isn't it great that there are so many to choose from and in our lifetime, we'll probably never see most of them. Here I am thinking I have just a mediocre garden. Then Doss starts posting her beauties and I start seeing some I want to fill my empty spots. This is a dangerous addiction for sure!
Burgundy Brown is new to my garden this year and I am very happy with it. There's a couple others that I'm waiting to open up that are new too.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Here's a PCI blooming right now.

doss,
How lucky you are to live where you can grow PCI's. I have never seen one in person, but from the pictures, they may be my favorites of all irises.
In fact, I envy all of you along the Pacific coast for your climate. I just returned from a brief trip to Los Angeles and the flowers of all kinds were absolutely beautiful. We stopped for a couple of hours at the Huntington Library and Gardens where camellias and azaleas and many other plants were in bloom. Not many iris or roses yet, but they had quite a few iris fiorentina blooming. Calla lilies were everywhere and so were clivias, both of which we can only grow in pots that we move indoors in the winter.
It's no wonder California attracts so many people willing to pay such high prices for housing there. It is lovely.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

The Huntington certainly is a jewel. It must be beautiful right now.
