Stopped eating cherries two weeks ago and my pants seem to be needing a smaller size? Can't wait for Friday weigh-in.....

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

How's Scooter feeling? An Yippiee on the weight loss...clothing to me is a much better indicator than a scale.

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Go over to the Pet Forum as the whole story is there. She is doing real well..

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Another weigh-in Friday and the scale says 263 down four from 267. Yep, it was the cherries that prevented my additional weight loss. Well I did stop eating them a week and a half ago and notice the results. I didn't gain when I was eating them but I didn't lose weight either. I went back to melons, honeydew specifically, as watermelons went back up to $9.99 and I can't see spending that much for a watermelon unless its a thirty pounder plus. Cherries are now finished for the season so I won't be tempted. Isn't it strange how I craved them while completely ignoring my old nemesis ice cream? Still have not had any desire for junk food except for "Gibbles Cheese Puffys" which are OK for me as they are very light and I only eat a few ounces and the desire is gone. Notice I said"desire" and not craving that I used to fight uncontrolabelly and always lose the fight? It is wonderful not to have the horrid cravings anymore and just a few bites of nutritious foods satisfies me completely!

Good for you, Tplant! I wish I had control of my cravings! LOL

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Awesome Tplant!

Where is our next picture??

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I'll take a picture with "Scooter" after Wednesday when her stitches are removed and after her Thursday grooming.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yay. I like pictures.

Pictures will have to wait a bit as I want to take a small break from all the pressure of preparation for Hurricane Ernesto which never materialized. Thank the Powers that be? However did go to the doctor yesterday morning before the bad weather and he did do another adjustment and tightened my band a little more. As a result I must go on a liquid diet for two days ending tomorrow evening or Friday morning. My diet consists of fat-free soups(clear liquid broth) and Carnation Instant Breakfast plus diet, sugar-free drinks and lots of water. I know it sounds terrible but I'm not hungry and it is not a challenge for me. After the second day I will eat my normal food but again, in very small quantities. Meat is very difficult for me to digest. Pieces of beef, unless it is fork tender, is not tolerated. I once ate a half of a filet mignon without any upset. White meat chicken is to dry for me. I usually prepare it in a moist salad and chop it up in small pieces. It is OK then. Tuna salad is very enjoyable along with shredded cole slaw and fresh tomato drizzled with oil and vinegar. Fish would be OK but I don't like fish except for shellfish and that is infrequent because of the cost. It really isn't a big deal for me as I no longer eat food to gluttonize myself but to fulfill a daily requirement. I know it sounds like "Bull" to some of you but when you no longer have an insatiable appetite you have a differnet outlook on food consumption! It is difficult to explain this wonderful new way of living? You'll just have to experience it or go by my word? It's just fantastic!.....

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

T, did you see the Oprah show today?

She had a woman on there who weighed 550 lbs before her gastric bypass surgery. It was an amazing story.

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Wish I would have seen it but I don't watch Oprah. Usually busy in the afternoon.

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

It was inspiring!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I have been on a liquid diet for four days now and you would think that I would have lost at least five pounds but the scale says the same 263. The doctor tightened my band to such an extent that I can now only slowly drink or sip water and as a result I've not been drinking enough water which is essential for weight loss. I'll just have to carry a bottle of water with me no matter where I go and take sips every now and then. This is standard proceedure at this stage and will take some getting used too!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Keep it up, Tplant, we're all rooting for you! You will get used to it soon, I know. Keep it up, champ!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I just drank, very slowly, an Carnation Instant Breakfast and was able to drink the entire amount of 10 oz. That is a first but unable to eat more than two tablespoons of chicken salad. All OK though as I haven't any hunger pains. This will take some getting used to as I have to adjust to the lesser amount of food. My brain just got used to eating smaller amounts of food and is still commited to that amount so I must eat very slowly and take tiny bites and swallow slowly. No gulping like I did with the cherries! It is so different from the way I used to live but I really am very grateful for this second chance for a new life!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Normally, I only weigh myself on Fridays but I just could not believe the scale yesterday and re-weighed myself today. It showed 260 lbs twice as I wanted to make sure. Down 4 lbs. from yesterday? I must have done something wrong at weigh-in?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Someone put their finger on the scale Ted. You are doing a wonderful job and we're so proud of you.

Molly
:^))))

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

A glass or two or three of water? (After all, a pint's a pound the world around!) Lead slippers? Maybe the weight loss you were expecting before just had to catch up with your metabolism, or the other way around. Oh shucks, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Enjoy! We knew you didn't have it in you, the weight I mean, LOL!

xxxx, Carrie

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol tplant you have to learn how to weigh in like we ladies we don't wear heavy clothing, take off our shoes try not to wear a bra, no jewelry, don't eat, tinkle a lot that morning and think light thoughts

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Ill try it except for the bra part! LOL

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Wait, Ted, you ARE going to wear a bra, despite all of araness' advice????

LOL!

For the past month I have been going to my GP seeking help for a terrifically dry cough that really bothers me at night but really all day long also. Went for xrays yesterday as he thought I may be developing pneumonia? However from all my severe coughing and I do mean severe I was unable to eat or drink anything over the Labor Day weekend. Lost five pounds from that cause. Went to my surgeon also the same day and he said that the heavy coughing irritated my esophogus and made it swell thus closing the narrow passageway. In order for the irritation to go down he opened the band fully until the Friday after next so that it would heal. It is as if I never had the banding and he said I will eat more and probably gain some weight back! Had my first solid food for lunch and he is sooo right. If I let myself go I'd go right back to my old ways. It will be a struggle for a week or so but I'll not overdo it but I will go to "Chiles" for their Chicken Portabella Fajitas" as they are delicious. Hope they are still on the menu? Meanwhile I'll wait for my chest xray results. Should know today?

Tplant
Hang in there, and be careful. Hope you get to feeling better real soon.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

My x-ray results were OK? The doctor will now put me on antibiotics for a couple of weeks. I'll see what happens. Meanwhile I'm having more problems. I have post polio syndrome(PPS) and it affects my entire body. Now it is in my shoulders and is extremely painful and there is no cure. I can not use my right arm for anything heavy so I'm out of gardening for awhile? How long? Don't know! Seeing an orthopedic tomorrow. I* must have strong pain meds as the pain brings me to tears, it is that severe. My primary doctor does not believe in pain meds of such strength but he does not have this pain so I must go elsewhere where I can get relief. He has been my primary for 27yrs and I will not change doctors for this reason as I can get help from others and he knows it. I'm going to try to start a thread and see if any of us have PPS?

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

I'm sorry to hear about your pain, T. I'm glad you're getting some help. Life is just too short to be in continual pain.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

T- my DH read your post above, the one where you had the cough, and diagnosed it as acid reflux, irritating your throat and causing the sore throat and the esophageal swelling! Of course, he has no idea what he's talking about. But you, young man, if you dare to get the idea of going back to your old ways, read this thread from beginning to end. I could quote 100 times where you said "Every overweight person should try this, I feel wonderful, I feel so healthy and satisfied, I feel full." One chicken portobello fajita, and NO DESERT, and NO SODA.

It's very sad that your PPS reared its ugly head again. I hope you can find some pain relief from that somehow. I agree with Granny, 'Life is just too short to be in continual pain.'

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol my cough is acid reflux and I thought the same...Tplant hope your doing better today and your in my thoughts. (((Hug))) *and I don't pass those out lightly :P~*

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

One day at a time for now. I'l be heading out to the orthopedic to see about this shoulder pain. I am very concerned about this as I can not garden in this condition. I must start my seeds for the fall-winter garden but my right arm is almost useless from pain. Between my pain and cough ? Well, I just don't know ? Must be getting a little old. Seriously though, I hope he can do something for me ? I can't just stop growing tomatos.....!!! Getting ready to leave now. I'll fill you in on the details when I get back.

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

If your regular doctor is hesitant to prescribe pain meds (your orthopod might be too) it might be all the legal junk doctors have to deal with.

Ask your doctor for a referral to a pain management specialist. My regular doctor has been fine prescribing pain meds (so far), but my orthopedist said when things progress he may need to send me to a pain management doc because most doctors are hesitant to prescribe serious pain killers these days and prefer to leave it to the specialist.

It is really quite ridiculous! There are doctors who have been arrested for "dealing drugs" because they have prescribed more pain meds for someone DA thinks they should have.

Don't take no for an answer either. It is asinine that someone should live in debilitating pain in this day and age!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks tombak for your advice. Just returned from having my new prescription filled and it is vicodin. I understand this to be a strong pain killer and that suits me fine. I took one as soon as I got home about a half an hour ago. No difference yet but I'm sure it will help as I took vicodin a few years ago after dental surgery and it worked. He is also sending me for physical therapy therapy and my first appointment is Tuesday at 2 pm. Just noticed that the throbbing pain in my shoulder has subsided and I'm feeling real relaxed. Sure hope I'll be able to plant my tomato seeds today?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Please be careful driving, T. I don;t think you can hurt yourself planting tomatoes! Also, pain is our bodies' way of letting usknow that it's time to stop. Don't forget you still heve PPS. I though PT was bad for you gus...

Take care,
xxxx,
Carrie

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I am going for a relaxing therapy. No strenuous activity. Hot and cold paks, electric stimuli and of course soothing massage. Looking forward to it.
No pain today so no pain med will I take. Was able to select and plant in my 72 cell seed tray, twenty-four varieties of heirloom and some hybrid tomatos but the most surprising fact is that I am not hungry as I thought I would be? The doctor opened my lap-band all the way as I previously stated. I was concerned about regaining some of my weight if only for a few pounds but I don't think it will happen but I must drink more water. Still have a cough but it seems to be getting better. Boy oh boy everything at once!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

"Everything at once!" - you don't know half of it, T... It never rains but it pours, eh? Did you have your Chili's Chicken Portabello Fajita? What are you eating, other than water?

xxx, Carrie

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I'm really not hungry so "NO" I've not had my fajitas. Too many happenings going on. Maybe when everything calms down I'll give it a go!

Tplant ... so sorry to read about all this going on for you right now, but wanted you to know I'm following your progress and will say prayers that you recover from your cough and get your pain under control with your new med. congrats on getting your seedlings started. You're making me jealous! Good luck with your PT. I just finished a 6 week session for rotator cuff tendonitis/bursitis, and it helped after having 2 steroid shots. I can't even imagine the pain you must be going through as it hurt me to brush my teeth and hair. Thank goodness it's better. I'll be praying you get relief soon.
Hugs&blessings ... Elaine

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks Elaine ---- On top of everything I went for a new brace fitting today for my right leg as I wear a sturdy plastic brace and with so much weight loss my current brace, which is only a year old, became too loose and my orthopedic doctor wants me to get a new one so of course I am doing just that. The horrible pain in my shoulders and back of my neck is controlled by my pain med and tomorrow I go for physical therapy. I'll let all know how it went. Meanwhile I think I'll treat myself to some ice cream tonite which is allowed but I've not taken advantage of it.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Ice cream? Well, if anyone deserves it, it's you, but I find that forbidden fruit had better stay forbidden with me. If it's not in the house I don't eat it. My advice (which you don't need since I'm 12 hours too late, at least) is go Out to eat it and then order the tiniest size. Here at a few places you can get a kiddie size, which is smaller than a small size. Like at McDonald's you can get a kid size drink (it's the size that comes in a Happy Meal). Good luck, and I'd like to hear how the ice cream adventure went!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

I had some Haagen-Daz last night and threw 3/4 of it away as I no longer had the taste for it? I really surprised myself. My taste has changed. I settled for a cappachino from Starbucks. I think I'll stick to my new way of life as the old way just isn't worth it.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Congrats!
