On a positive note, nothing has blown away that i can see, and I obtained two new sturdy garbage can lids from somewhere thus far! LOL

Interesting weather here today... feels like the TEMP is in the 40s (North Wind) and the gusts in the 60s! it woke me up at 6:30 this morning! the guineas are staying in their cage today, they are out of the wind... they HATE the wind!

"...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM

50 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS

We've finally got some rain. We got 0.2 inches on Wednesday. That was enough to get the ginger to bloom. :-)We got 0.85 inches yesterday. Just cloudy right now. The deluge comes later today. Feast or famine. If the forecast is correct, I'd be glad to share 1 1/2 inches of it with TamaraFaye and Oklahoma. That dryness and winds is awful. We always get that in the fall, but fortunately usually ends by about Christmas. My skin is happy today. ;-)

Humidity: 88%
Dew Point: 52 °F / 11 °C
Wind: 7 mph / 11 km/h from the ESE

All of the necessary factors appear to be in place to produce
excessive rainfall over much of the area. Rainfall estimates for this
storm are 3 to 5 inches in coastal and valley areas... with local
amounts over 5 inches possible across the Santa Barbara County South
Coast and portions of Ventura County. Foothill and mountain areas
can generally expect 4 to 8 inches... with 8 to 16 inches or more
possible on favored south facing slopes... such as the Santa Ynez
range and the mountains of Ventura County. There will be a strong
potential for very intense rainfall rates with this system... with
1.0 to 1.5 inches per hour possible during the peak of the event.
With such strong upper level dynamics and slight instability... there
will also be a threat of thunderstorms Monday.

i'll take some of that rain Kelli, thanks!

an hour or so ago, i looked out the west window in time to see a splash of rain sprinkles! may be this wind will bring a little more moisure.

unfortunately, when i was out this morning i saw where my rain guage had blown over, so i put it in a safer place, & it's not gonna catch any oisture.

i hve made a resolution to track the weather, & record it, this year!

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

An inch to an inch and a half of rain in those Ventura hills is gonna cause slides?

And the wind and fires in Ok and Tx on tv are frightening. We had some fairly stout winds last night but nothing like that. Also got just a smattering of raindrops not even enuff to make a puddle but added some moisture to the air. Nice.

Happy New Year All. ~Blooms

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i'd take 1.5 inch, but, Blooms, that said "1.0 to 1.5 inches per hour"... i don't like the sound of thta, anywhere!

My hibiscus, camellias, gerainiums, impatients and others still have my yard very colorful. I've got a lot of winterizing to do. This and next month are our total winter.

glad you are home Sugar!

Oh, i have a new direction for you to add to your readings....

yesterday during a long drive, my 4 year old said he thought we were going North, and we were. then i turned left, and before i could say we were now going west, he says:

"Now we are going North by North Dakota"!

your weather smile for the day, courtesy of Peter!

The snowstorm that we got luckily ended before the weathermen said, but we have 3 feet 2 inches of snow.
We have around 14 dgr F.

That's a very pretty but chilly picture Janett.
Sunny and 65º.
Good day to shop and plant, DEC 4-5 FINE FOR PLANTING ANY ABOVEGROUND CROP WHERE THE CLIMATE PERMITS. EXTRA GOOD FOR PEPPERS, TOMATOES, PEAS AND OTHER VINE CROPS. I hope that means winter flowers planted today will thrive too.

TF, from now on my favorite direction wil be _'North by North Dakota'_ smiles here

Sidney, am planting seeds out there today. hope that works for tall garden phlox?
I also found a grocery store pkg of tulip bulbs that I'll stick in the ground, they still seem firm. can't hurt. Our sandy soil seldom has enough moisture in it to truly freeze.
Temps are headed for 50* today, but will be back to low 20s tonite.
no warm breeze from Arizona today.
edit to add - beautiful pic Janett, lovely to see snow from a comfortable distance.

nice day here today, but it's gone now...

We had about 5 minutes of sun this morning. Otherwise, cloudy and cold, below freezing all day, light wind. Yesterdays slush has turned to stone.

our 12th day with no sun - we've had 44 days with some kind of precipitation. I'm ready to move.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

sarv, get in front of a bright light for 2 or 3 hours. It might help.
Partly cloudy here and 60º.
Blooms, I'm planting garlic and setting out some winter flowers in my triangle.
I bet those phlox will be pretty in a few months. I have so much to do I don't know where to start. I guess with the threat of freeze tonight, my load will be cut in half by that.
Sidney

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Hello, yohoo, Is everybody busy starting indoor seeds or what?
Once again they are threatning to frost tonight here in very northern Florida. It's sunny and 54º outside right now. Humidity is low for us at 56%.
Gonna hang out laundry.
Sidney

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Today is our first sunny day we have had all week. What a pleasure to see that big warm globe again.
Rather cool in the mid 30s with light SW winds.
A bit too cool for me to hang out the laundry, though. Line dried linen smells soooo nice.
Andy P

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Well, we dodged the bullet last night, but looks like it will be "Freeze" instead of "Frost" tonight! Poor, poor Ferns......too big to move and can't cover them because all the cover is on my bed! LOL

Someday I'm just going to have to admit I no longer live in Miami, and living in Central Florida calls for some kind of heating device in your house. Until then I'll just have to depend on "furbabyheat" and cuddle with the Doxies and cat.

Ok can't give a proper temp report from here, but because i was a passenger and not a driver i got to count cows ...... 61 bovine spoted on the route between danville and west lake!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

It wouldn't hurt if it would rain here in about three to five days, but nothing in the forecast but wind. Remember, I'm not unappreciative of the warm temperatures, but if we don't get our rain now (Jan., Feb., Mar.) we aren't going to get it (to amount to anything) this year.

Northwest Misssouri:

Where in the world has our winter weather went?????

Today it's around 60 degrees and very nice for this time of year. Last year about this time we had a terrible storm where freezing rain fell onto snow already on the ground. Main roads were quickly cleared but side and rural roads were very slick for over a week. Most schools were closed about a week because nothing thawed out on the rural country roads for days.

Many folks out and about today with only jackets on and I saw a group of boys with T-shirts on playing basketball outside on a driveway! Usually kids are looking for a snow day(from school) here so they can go sledding this time of year.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

LOL Dyson, it's a good thing to keep yur eye on those cows. One attacked my car last year.
Another mostly sunny 48* day here, following a 29* low.

I'm hoping for some rain for that whole area Kelli, no rain no desert flowers. I really want it to do what it did last spring. Like this:
