September - the year is flying by!

Ripley, MS

They took Amanda off hers too, I understand it is bad to make you have leg problems.
I know it made Richard happy to go out to eat.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Yes I took him to Mimi's. His favorite place. I always gave a buy one entree and 2 drinks and get one entree free. They continually send me the coupons. Last night our waiter put paper doilies under our glasses. I said something about it and he said that lets us know you are a regular! We have waiters that will just stop by the table to say hello!

My leg feels much better today! Still not well but I didn't have the really severe spasms when I got up this morning and I was able to sleep some on my stomach last night. The doctor gave me a booklet with some exercises that would help relieve the pain. One for my type pain was to lie on my stomach. At first just lift my head and then try to raise up on my elbows and hold for a few seconds. It did help. My leg and upper hip area is really sore today and I still can't sit in my recliner but I'm hoping as the day goes on it will continue to loosen up. I took my potassium first thing this morning to get it in my system.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Glad you are feeling better, Charlotte!!!

Beautiful day for a football game!!! Go LSU!!!

Laceys Spring, AL(Zone 7a)

Amanda has had a rough time. I know she must be anxious to get the MRI results.

Charlotte, I am glad to hear you are a little better. This has been a bad episode for you. Maybe getting off some of the meds will help too, and getting on the right track with others.

We have had a busy day. Well yesterday was too, but really today. I had my long run this morning with my training group. Did 7.5 miles. Was going to try for 8 but we started late, it was hot, and I needed to finish by 9 so I could get home & get ready for a meeting. We drove to the State Park lodge for my class reunion planning meeting and lunch. We are going to hold the reunion there in one of the rooms. We had 1-2 or our reunions there several years ago (maybe it was our 20th & 25th, can't recall) but the lodge has been removed and is really beautiful and the rooms were renovated again a couple of years ago. Then we went to an outdoor art show back in Huntsbille that I always like to go to. I only bought a couple of small things. But could have spent more $$ easily. Ran into several people we knew. It is only held one day and I missed it last year.

Well it's brag time. My middle granddaughter did get elected to the freshman homecoming court at Hoover High in Birmingham. Here is a picture of her & our son. Her other grandpa managed to take this and it's a little grainy but pretty good. And I got one that my other granddaughter posted of their h/c last weekend. She is the one in the bright colored dress. So proud of our smart, beautiful girls. They probably won't load in the order I select.

Elaine congratulations to your granddaughter!! They are both very pretty girls! A handsome son too. That was a nice run!! I need to get back into walking. Maybe it would help me. I ended my actual running days long ago. My neighbor a few doors down is an orthopedic surgeon. He has walked every day for the 33 years I've lived here. He told me years ago I didn't need to be running that I should do a fast walk. He said it was too hard on the joints. He used to sprint the last block or two for cardio.

This has been a doozy of a episode!!! One crazy part is it doesn't bother me to walk . It actually helps it. It's the sitting that gives me fits. It's still so much better than yesterday but is worst tonight than during the day. I have a routine checkup appointment with my PCP Mon afternoon. It's coming at a good time!! I'm going to see if he can refer me some where to get this figured out!! I've had enough of this nonsense!

Ripley, MS

I know you are tired of this Charlotte ! I hope he can get you going in the right way to the end of this !

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Congratulations Elaine - she is very lovely girl! Sounds like you had a busy weekend!

Charlotte, that low potassium is responsible for major muscle spasms.......... hopefully once your levels get back up, most of your pain will be gone. My sister has a lot of trouble with her potassium levels - and the day Alex and Natalie were married, she had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. She was cramped up so bad she was in a fetal position and they couldn't get her muscles to move so they just had to load her like that . At the hospital she was given IV potassium and muscle relaxers................ she got out just in time to come to the wedding although she really doesn't remember it! :)

Sandra, sorry to hear that Amanda is having trouble as well !! Hope they find the problem soon!

Saturday we went to LR and helped Kyle and Maddie pick up their new mattress and move it into their new apartment - so we got to see their place. It is brand new and very nice - and they are excited about it. I had bought them a mattress as part of their wedding gift - and they decided to exchange it which they could do within so many days. They needed to get the replacement one picked up because it has been in since late June - but we didn't really want to take to Camden, then deal with hauling it back to LR next month. The apartment mgr allowed them to just move it in there. They will be the first people to live in the apartment - so she said it wouldn't be a problem for it to just sit in there. Then we all went out to a nice dinner to celebrate Alex's passing Step 2. Yesterday, I cleaned on the house and helped Jessica with some things, then spent several hours pealing and slicing pears. I finally cooked the preserves last night and I over did them. I was SO disappointed after all that work - and then them not turn out right...... and so far, I haven't been able to locate any more pears to try again! :( This is the first time that I have ever messed them up like this - I don't even think they are going to be edible.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

My leg is feeling better today but not well!! I just left my PCP office and he gave me a prescription for a stronger muscle relaxer and a pain medicine I can take at night. I'm at radiology now waiting for an X-ray. Then on top of that my sinuses decided to start acting up last night!! At least I'm getting help!!!

Ripley, MS

Good for you, Charlotte, did the PCP have any idea about your leg ?

Genna, are the pears too hard or did you just cook the syrup away ?

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

He seemed to think it could probably related to sciatica. I think the low potassium has made it a lot worse than normal! I go back to see him in two weeks. He will have the xray results by then and we will go from there.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

This is really getting old and I know you all are tired of hearing about it. But this is now day 10 and I'm still in pain!! This has been like the pain I used to get back in my20's! Except then it was usually in my side just above the waist on my left side. Back then they said I had a pinched nerve and I would just have to live with it. I would always be in just unbearable pain then it would just suddenly go away. I'm ready for it to go away! I took 2 muscle relaxers and a Pain pill last night and it didn't phase the pain! Then I was up every 2 hours to urniate. So I'm afraid a UTI may be developing. I bought some pure cranberry juice the other day in anticipation that thus could happen! I've been drinking it this morning. I'm going to give it one more day then I'm going to call my doctor back!

Then on top of that I had an allergy attack last night!! Not a happy camper today!!

Ripley, MS

Charlotte, you need an MRI, if 2 muscle relaxers and a pain pill didn't touch it then it has got to be nerve pain. They will drag you through everything unless you ask for one. If you have really good insurance and they will pay then ask for one immediately.
You need some relief

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I know it is nerve pain. I've had it before. Yes I have very good insurance that will pay for every thing. I'm going to call back and insist on an MRI.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Hope you are able to get in quickly and they find out what is going wrong Charlotte!!!

They have Ashley scheduled Thur for an EGD. I pray they figure out some way for her to be more normal than lately!!!

Laceys Spring, AL(Zone 7a)

I agree. I think they should have done this already. Yes, your potassium could be messed up too and causing some of your pain, but you obviously have a history.

My DH has had knee pain for over a year. Because he is covered primarily by Medicare (he has Tricare for Life as secondary which picks up everything Medicare doesn't cover), they only look at that and delay anything like MRIs. sometimes it really bothers him and I tried to get him to insist on the MRI. He's fairly certain it's arthritis and maybe some other things going on too that he injured slightly playing senior league softball last year, but he's so stubborn he won't go back and get it done. He is so trusting that the doctor is doing the right thing. I don't trust any of the doctors if I'm still hurting.

Jeri, I hope and pray Ashley gets something figured out too. She is so young to be going through this.

Ripley, MS

Ashley has really suffered, I pray for her too.
Sometimes the insurance will not pay for an MRI unless you go to PT first, normally workers comp doesn't but I didn't have a problem, after taking things farther than they wanted me to do.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Ashley really has had a problem. She is too young to have to keep dealing with something like that.

Yes I've had this problem since I was 20. It would flare up every. 6 months to a year back then. Finally when I was around 30 I had a spell and then years went by after that one before having a serious one again. I started running somewhere around 30 and would have sciatica problems a lot after being in the car for a while: always my left side. Still my left side. I have Medicare as my primary and Blue Cross Blue Shield as my secondary. I have the premier policy that I pay dearly for but I never have to pick up the cost for anything. I also don't have to be referred in order for it to pay. So I guess after dealing with it for 53 years I should try to find out what the problem is. This go round I know started with all the bags of dirt and mulch I unloaded several years ago.

I've been in bed since I got back from the dentist and have been able to nap some. I think the muscle relaxers mybe loosening it up finally.

Elaine I totally agree about doctors. You really have to ask questions, do your own research and follow your gut feeling. You know how your body feels! My PCP (not the one I go to now) didn't think I should have thyroid surgery. He thought I should just monitor it for a while. I actually wasn't asking him what i should do. I had already been to a specialist and I had the surgery scheduled. I think he was upset that I had not talked to him first! Ego! But if I had listened to him my cancer could have gotten outside my thyroid. I had 3 spots - all very close to the margins.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Charlotte, sorry to hear that your problem is not better. You may have a ruptured disc. Before I had my first back surgery I would have episodes where I would stand up and have this excruciating pain shooting through my hip. But, in a bit it would subside. It got more frequent after I had Alex and I literally thought that my hip was going in and out of place. Come to find out, it was a disc bulging and putting pressure on that nerve, then it would slide back - I didn't find this out until it actually ruptured and didn't retreat so the pain stayed on the nerve! It is possible that you have had a disc that has been bulging back and forth all these years and that it has ruptured and is putting continuous pressure on that nerve. The day that mine ruptured I was carrying Alex across the room and I couldn't even put him down....he just had to slide down the front of me until he touched the floor - thankfully he was a toddler and was walking well. The next day I was in the worst pain of my life and Leigh had to walk me to the bathroom taking steps probably 2 -3 " at a time! That was a Monday morning and there was an orthopedic surgeon who came to Camden every Tuesday, so as soon as the clinic opened, I had Leigh get me an appointment with the ortho dr AND an appointment with ANYONE who could see me that day for pain meds! The first general dr I saw said I had "pulled a muscle" in my back. I assured him that I had NOT pulled a muscle, but that I had an appt with the ortho doc the next day I just needed drugs to survive the day! Then when I saw the ortho doc, he did tell me I had a ruptured disc, but he told me I would either need to "have surgery or live with the pain when I asked my options". I am glad that I didn't listen to him because if I had just "lived with the pain" I would have ended up losing my leg. It is important that it is checked out to prevent any permanent nerve damage....... Hope they get that MRI very soon! Hoping that it not what is the problem, but if it is, you need to know.

Jeri, have they done the EGD on Ashley before? Or is this the first time? I do hope they are able to resolve her problems!

I am better today but not well. I got a really good nights sleep with all the muscle relaxers and pain meds! My leg is still tight today and still has a burning sensation but seems tone lossening up some. I don't have the unbearable cramping. Hopefully it will get better as the day goes on.

Ripley, MS

I just got off the phone with Amanda, she has a broken bone in her ankle, there is a tendon right beside it that blocked the x-Ray from seeing it. The MRI showed it. She has struggled since June with this and only now found out what is wrong after the MRI.
He put her in a tight brace and told her no walking that is t headed to the bathroom. I don't know what her principal will say. When she does walk she has to put the boot on top of the brace. He told her he could cast it and put her on one of those scooters that you put your knee on, she said she was afraid it would mess her back up. He examined her back and agreed with her. They also saw some bone loss from her arthritis. She is to try this for 2 months and come back to the doctor. He doesn't really expect to see any healing by 2 months, he thinks it will be at least 6 months before seeing any healing. He said every step she takes is not only hurting her from the bone, but is damaging the tendon that is beside it. They may have to do surgery to get it well, but he will not talk about it for 6 months. The bone she had implanted in her jaw is already crumbling.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Oh my Sandra!! That is a LONG time to have been walking on a broken bone! Would it be possible for her to just use a regular scooter at the school? Does she teach? why does he expect it to take so long to start healing? I guess I must have missed the issue she has with her bones??? Praying she heals quickly now that they have it immobilized!

Charlotte, well I am glad to hear that at least you got some sleep! I hope it improves thru the day!

Happy Fall everyone!! We survived the summer..............although I am not sure how my plants faired! I know some were not so fortunate. :(

Laceys Spring, AL(Zone 7a)

I must have also missed the issue Amanda has with her bones. Or maybe you told us but it's been a while and I forgot. That IS a very long time to be walking around with a broken bone! Did she have a bone graft in her jaw?

Happy fall y'all!! I'm so glad it's technically fall, but it is still a bit hot a humid here. I know my plants did ok but I have lost two shrubs that have been sitting there dead for a couple of months and I haven't done anything about it. I also have had a terrible problem with squirrels or chipmunks digging up my bulbs!! I am fairly certain they have also dug up the 2 calla lillies Marilyn gave me. I went out and saw 2 quarter-sized holes where they are planted in my garden yesterday. It looked like a drill bit had been used in the ground. I don't know if I'll have any daffodils next year or not. Rascals! I have had the bulbs planted almost ever since we've lived here which is nearly 16 years and never had the problem I've had this year. I found one spot where they had been digging and left 1-2 bulbs on top of the ground so I re-planted them. Who knows what they ate.

Ripley, MS

Genna, Amanda got most of my health problems also I am afraid, she started having trouble a couple of years ago with the bone in her jaw. She has psoriatic arthritis and osteo also, she was 29 when they diagnosed her. They put a piece of bone in her jaw and thought it was going to take but the last time she went to ortho Doctor he told her it was starting to detertiate. Last summer she went to the foot doctor because her toe was hurting her and they found the bone was gone, this is the same side as the ankle is hurt now. They decided the brace was her best bet. Yes she is still teaching but she has a note in now telling them she has to sit. They will take her off the bus duty schedule.
The 25th is her 39th birthday !

The first day of fall was hot here. I stayed outside from 11 until 3, but I had to move to the shade about 1, too hot in the sun. I am glad I don't belong to any Garden Club, if I did I would be kicked out. The bed I worked on this afternoon hasn't been cleaned out in 2 years. I am just digging up what plants have survived and then going to dig the grass out. Part of it is like digging in concrete, so dry.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Amanda is having a time! June until now is along time to be walking around on a broken bone! It sounds like it's going to be a long recovery. What will they do about her jaw now??

I'm better today but not well. My leg has not had the strong spasms in it today but it is very sore and feels tight and just aches in general. I managed to go until 2 without having to take a pain pill. Hopefully it will continue to get better.

I did go to church today and took the couple that used to live next door. I had gotten in a shipment of candles for my new booth and manag d to get them out today. But my house is a wreck! But it's not going anywhere!

I have a bunch of little trees I need to get out of my beds in the front. I have shoots of crape myrtle all over the place. I also have a big clump of monkey grass in my front bed I need to dig out. I don't know where in the world it came from! I know I didn't plant it there. I know it's definitely monkey grass because it is blooming.

Ripley, MS

You better hold up on the digging for now Charlotte !

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I know Sandra! I do have enough sense to know I need to wait on that! I noticed it this summer and at first thought it might be day lilies even though it sure looked like monkey grass. Then when it started blooming I got my answer!!! I have never had any monkey grass in that area.

Ripley, MS

I guess a bird dropped a seed for you ! One of my ruptures came while "digging" a big clump of cannas ! That was the second one

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Glad you are feeling some better and pray that it improves quickly for you Charlotte so you can get back to your normal self!!!

Sandra TG they were able to find that broken bone finally for Amanda. Now for improvement each day!!!

Well we're off to the hospital for Ashley's test today. I'm praying they are able to find the problem and hopefully a solution to fix it. This has gone on way too long already!!!!

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Jeri - hope ya'll get some answers!

Charlotte, glad you are feeling some better! I hope it continues to improve.

Sandra, I am right there with you - I about killed myself this Spring and you can't even tell it now............ ALL of my beds are in horrible shape! Hopefully I can get some done this weekend - they say it is going to be cooler. I have to be in Arkadelphia later in the day, but I hope to accomplish some that morning! Sorry to hear Amber is having so many bone problems - that sounds scary.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Sitting in dentist chair one place I hate . Sorry everyone seems to be having so many problems but thank the Lord we have this outlet to reach out. Sometimes it helps just to discuss it.

Wishing everyone a speedy recovery .

Jeri I hope yall get some answers today.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

I think I'm on the road to recovery! My leg was bothering me when I got up this morning so I took a muscle relaxer and layed back down. I discovered that if I put a small ball in a certain spot on my hip it helps. I went sound to sleep and woke up with Richard calling my cell phone. I was upstairs an had the door open but he didn't see me. He had made a mess but not as bad as a lot of messes he has made!!

I gave a doozy of a sinus infection too. I think it's getting better. Yes Cindy it does help to talk about it.

I had better get my self pulled together fast because I got a phone call from my son after I started typing this and he is coming this weekend. He said he has a meeting in Dallas tomorrow morning and will drive up after his meeting. He flies all over the place for one hour meetings.

The bed he sleeps is still piled up with summer clothes I haven't worn and haven't donated or put away. So I guess I know what I'll be doing today! I am not used to be sick!!

Ripley, MS

Glad to know you are on the mend Charlotte, seeing your boy will make you feel even better !

Cindy, hope the dentist wasn't too bad

I just talked to Cayla and she is on the mend now too. He said he had expected things to look better by now than they do, but it is starting to regrow into the shape it should be where all the nerves were compressed. The main pain she has had is in her shoulder and he said it is muscle spasms. He is sending her to a doctor to put a shot into it to stop that.

Anything on Ashley yet ?

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

Glad to get some good news on Cayla!! Although I am sure she is really nervous about any shots!

Charlotte, glad to hear you are doing better and that Jeff is going to come for a visit. I am sure that will make you feel better too! I have finished my antibiotic and my sinus problems and pain in the ear and down the throat seem to be returning with a vengeance. I am ready for it to be gone to stay!

Praying that Ashley got some results today so they can work toward getting her issues resolved!

Cindy, I don't like the dentist either - and Lord knows I have spent hundreds of hours in the dentist, orthodontist and oral surgeons office.............you would think I would get used to it . I guess I did, but I never liked it! Now, Kyle is even considering going to Dental school instead of med school - possibly on to Orthodontic or oral surgery school, but he is just trying to figure out whether God wants him to go to Med school or dental school or something else............ Please keep him in your prayers that God will reveal His will for him......

Ryan is back staying with us a for few days and he may find out tomorrow about the job he interviewed for in LR. He applied for the job in July - they sure take their time!

I don't think I have told ya'll that Jessica is the Grid Iron Girls representative in OBU's homecoming this year. Normally in years past, OBU has had close to 40 girls on the field for Homecoming festivities, but this year because of some telecast they are having to cut the pregame and so they are only having 20 girls on the field. They will all get to walk tomorrow at a brief presentation on campus, and they will vote tomorrow so they will find out which 20 will be on the field next weekend. She is not expecting to make the 20 because she isn't in a sorority and, as a chem major spends most of her time studying.... but I told her just to enjoy her moment tomorrow and be thrilled to represent her organization. I think she is just happy to be participating.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

We just got back home and yes there is a result. They found that she has a Hiatal Hernia. No idea how she got it or even when. This is different from the other stomach problem that she has had for the last 4 or 5 years. He doesn't recommend surgery which I found weird but he said it could cause her to have a constant gag reflex. Totally does not make sense to me. I'm trying to research diet tips for her now.

That is good news on Cayla. TG!!!!

Hey Cindy!!! Wishing you luck with the dentist!!! Not my favorite place to be either!!!

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Cross posted Genna!! That is a great honor for Jessica whether she gets to walk on the field or not!!!

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Jeri I'm glad the doctor at least figured out what is wrong with Ashley. I've heard of hiatal hernias but don't really know what it is. She seems very young to have something like that.

It's an honor for Jessie whether she makes it to the field or not.

I was at the dentist earlier this week to have a crown seated. It did the prep work a couple of weeks ago. He had to replace an old crown that was allowing food to get trapped underneath it and causing problems with my gums. Between Richard and the dentist and myself it seems we've been there every week for several months now!!

Richard's allergies have really been bothering him and it's really caused him to be disoriented. He wanted to out riding this afternoon and it took him forever to get downstairs and then it took about 20 minutes to talk him down the two steps from the front porch. He had more trouble with those two steps. Then he had a really hard time getting in the car. He enjoyed the ride but had a hard time getting back upstairs. I hope he is better tomorrow. I stopped by the drugstore and got some allergy pills for him.

Laceys Spring, AL(Zone 7a)

Genna, that is awesome for Jessica! She must be so excited. (Know the feeling of her being honored after being thru this with Mackenzie a couple of weeks ago. She had a big grin on her face just telling me about it.)

Wow, Jeri, a hiatial hernia! I'm so glad Ashley finally got some news and y'all can work with that. I guess that can happen at any age.

And very encouraging news for Cayla too. I know between Jerry, Amanda, and Cayla, you've certainly had your hands full, Sandra. To get some positive news to move forward with healing both with Jerry and Cayla is awesome.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Sandra I forgot to say how glad I am to hear that Cayla is finally beginning to see healing!!! I know it is such a relief for all of you.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Ashley could have been born with this or picking up on kids at the water park. He said we will probably never know the cause and actually it really doesn't matter how she got this. She has it now. The part that will be the worst for her is she has to eat 3 hrs. before laying down and give up spicy food. Coming from Louisiana that is almost impossible.

Yesterday was such a blur but today sure is looking pretty!!! Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Ripley, MS

I would think all the vomiting Ashley has done might have caused it too. I feel her pain, no spicy food for me either anymore (burning mouth) tell her she will be ok ! Even pepperoni hurts me, no pizza for me !
I am seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, with the last 2 surgeries behind us. The doctor did renew Caylas home therapy and on Oct 5, the doc will send Jerry back to therapy 3x a week
