Central Fl. RU

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Sylvain, if you want to do a presentation on hibiscuses, and lessons on rooting cuttings; I am hoping to have PLENTY to bring to let everyone practice on. I have not done all the pruning I should have done on mine already, because I can't throw them away and was hoping to save them for the RU.

Here are a few pics of some of the different varieties I am hoping to bring...all depends on how much I can prune back the day before (and I will have rooting hormone too).

Hi Bonnie...I received a message on FB from Dave's member Onlysky (her real name is Amber) and her and her parents are planning on coming by as well.

Shauna

I leave at 6 am Thursday!! I am just so excited.

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Great all.
Sylvain, orange groves are mostly gone due to back to back freezes but we still have the rolling hills.

Still a great place to live and garden.

Bonnie

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Mud Elf by all means get down here how ever best you can, provided your doctors feels it is ok for you to travel. Your health is what is most important.

This will be my first time attending and after 3 moves and no plants to bring, I'm coming to enjoy meeting the folks I've been talking to for more years than I remember.

Bonnie Getting excited for Saturday, can't believe it is upon us. Looking forward to meeting you in person along with everyone else.

See yall on Saturday.

Jan

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Jan,
Did I give you explicit directions? Brooksville is mainly a straight shot on 50. 2 turns and you will be here. That reminds me I'd better go into Charlie's shed and find the signs we used before.

I'm hoping for good weather.

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

After the rain Tuesday and Wednesday, we will see cooler temps...but it is supposed to warm up and be beautiful weather on Saturday.

I wanted to know, what food/drink is everyone bringing?

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I'll definitely bring a Caesar salad, some cold chicken, diet drinks, maybe a dessert; I'll have to see what Friday brings.

Sylvain.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Spaghetti salad, dressed eggs, and a dessert, haven't decided on that one yet...LOL

turn on south on 33 then turn on pine island road, so I believe we got it, if not keep your cell handy...LOL

Jan

ps I don't know about anyone else, but I would be happy to make name tags with your name/DG name, as I have a very hard time with names. Just let me know if you would like me to.

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

I'll have iced tea, sweet and not, a case of chilled water bottles, roasted turkey, baked ham and peach cobblers sugar free and 1 blueberry with sugar. And anything else I have time for.

Jan you have the directions right and sign will also be there for RU.

I have stick on name tags that all can use. Nobody is worse at remembering names than I am. I even use them in my Sun. sch. class. Pitiful huh.

Sylvain Caesar salad my favorite. I'm going Fri. food shopping so I'll get some dressings. I'm a salad of any type person.

I'll make sure I have cell phone on me Sat. so just call if any questions on directions and I'll try to get you here. 352-223-1611

Thanks to all, Bonnie

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Forgot to mention: There will be a greeter once you pull into driveway with a sign in sheet just so I will have future reference if need to contact about another RU. Frankly I'm hoping someone else will host next 1.
There will be someone to help unload your vehicle and also to park it if you don't want to walk through cow poops in pasture. Charlie is going to move cows into upper pasture and drag lower parking pasture to break it up. Bags are ready for you to load up all the composted manure you want which is stacked in my backyard. Plants don't need to be carried into backyard. We have a little Gator and my Kubota for that. I have tried to think of everything to make YOUR RU experience enjoyable.

If I'm shorthanded will show Sylvain how to run my Kubota and I'm sure he would be willing to help out.
If anyone can think of anything I may have forgotten just D-mail me please and I'll try to oblige. IF POSSIBLE.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Bonnie

My sweet lady please don't stress over anything else. We are all so blessed to have a place to come together to meeting, and have fun. Everything will be fine.

so are ya saying we should be wearing boots.....LOL

Jan

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Please do not get Caesar salad dressing. I make my own, one of a kind salad dressing. I'll even bring my own mixing bowl. Do we need disposable dishes and cuttlery? I might make a sheet (24 cookies) of oatmeal and raisin cookies. Yeah, dad would like that: fill up the cookie tin and make some to make to bring. Leaving the cigars and rum and coke at home.

Take care,all.
Sylvain.

I am mostly packed and ready to go. The bus leaves at 6 am. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

great news.

looking to shape up to be a warmer day, so make sure to bring your sun screen folks.

Jan

Humm,, butter buy some tomorrow when I get to my aunts. I have none here in the woods,,lol

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Jan-no boots necessary. Lots of clear spaces to walk.

Sylvain-you may have to teach me how to make your special dressing. Will provide you with mixing bowl gladly. All necessary eating tools are provided also iced tea, bottled water, coffee. Those are my favorite cookies plus they are good for us. Those and cup of hot choc. and I'm in hog heaven.

We will have tents up to avoid direct sun. Weather man is predicting very good weather.

Bonnie

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I have to choose to bring a wide-brim hat, or the hat I wear for my hawai'ian salsa courses at the club house. What do YOU think?

Take care, everyone.

Sylvain.

Winter Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

Looks like a beautiful day in store for us. I'll bring my special baked beans and some cornbread casserole.
Sylvain, you're a hoot, can't wait to meet you.

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Sylvain,I am thinking the wide brim hat will probably do a better job blocking the sun, but that fruit hat would go great with a coconut bikini and a grass skirt. LOL

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

First one that came to my mind was Carmen Miranda. You young ones probably don't remember her. I'll bet Sylvain does!!

Warning all--my yard doesn't look as good as it did last time you were here but I had to work on pool first and that was a mammoth job so please overlook needy yard.

Bonnie

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Bonnie, I am sure your yard looks beautiful!

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Wild question here: Do we have someone in this thread that lives in, or near Fond du Lac, WI?

This is important to me, please help.

Thanks.
Sylvain.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

due to the weather going to be warmer, I'm dropping the dressed eggs, don't want to worry about food going south...

So still coming with spaghetti salad, thinking of a water mellow salad as well, nothing to go bad with that and a peanut butter cake.

Jan

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Hoping every one has a great day. Sorry I can not come but it was a good thing I decided not to come as I had another out break of MRSA- is is already healing but have to stay away from people for another 5 days. Will be seeing a specialist next month.

Sandy

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Sylvain, maybe check the members list by state?

Jan all sounds great. If I have time I'll do some deviled eggs.

Sandy, I swear you are really having a time of it. Hoping you get clear of all bad health problems and can get back to your gardening soon. I'll keep you in prayers.

Bonnie

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Sandy so sorry to hear this, sending prayers for a speedy recovery and that you never have to deal with that ugly monster again!

Jan

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

thank you. caught it early, which is the key, know the signs.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Hi, everyone.

I won't be able to make it to the Round-Up tomorrow. I could cry!

Two years ago, I suffered a stroke. My sense of balance becomes compromised at times, specially when I look up, tilting my head back, or turning it quickly to look from side to side. The neurologist told me to count my blessings if that is the only sequel to the stroke. It was a mild one and I was lucky. SOME LUCK! Lucky is winning the jackpot at the lottery, not losing one's sense of balance. What idiots doctors are, sometimes.

I take medication daily to aleviate that but like all medication, it cures nothing, it just masks the symptoms. So, as I was folding T-shirts, I looked up and the whole universe started spinning. I grabbed on to the dryer. That didn't really help. The world kept on spinning. After a while, I dragged myself to a nearby chair, waiting for the world to stop spinning. It's still spinning this morning and I feel nauseous. I don't dare drive the car when that happens and I am in no shape to be driven anywhere, either. Dad kindly offered to drive. No, thank you so very much. Bummer, too: I was all set to go to a Round Up tomorrow morning: plants organized and ready to set into the car. It kinda looks like that's not going to happen. Frogazoid!

I just looked sideways to see how the rain had increased. Horrible woozy feeling. Good thing I am sitting in a chair with arms on each side. And good thing I have a garbage can next to me; it might become an emergency hurl can, too. It's all I can do to keep my fingers aligned on the right keys on my keyboard. 95 words per minute, this ain't. Getting old is not for sissies.

I hope you all have a great day tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you all.

Sylvain.

Orlando, FL

Hello everyone. I will be coming tomorrow. I'm not sure when just yet...but, I will be there. Does anyone have any special requests? I skimmed the thread and I see that vines are wanted. I'll see what I can round up at the last minute. Seen ya all there! Melanie

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Sylvain, I am so sorry and I have been through exactly what you are experiencing. Definitely don't drive. I quit driving for 3 months a few years ago when I was going through vertigo and vomiting. Not a picnic. However, we will certainly miss you.

Melanie, look forward to seeing you again. Many of your last years cuttings I rooted.

Bonnie

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Sylvain,
please call me in the evening after the Ru. I want to tell you how I got treated for it and it stopped it immediately.

Bonnie

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Hi, everyone.

I just wanted to wish all of you a great day for the RU, with wonderful weather, ample participation, fun, shrieks of laughter, great good food, plentiful plant exchanges, and the joy of meeting new friends face to face.

I am still dizzy. The neurologist tells me it's not vertigo. Rather, the stroke affected the precise spot in my tiny brain that coordinates the signals received by the inner's ear's sensors to keep our balance. I'm willing to try anything to be back to normal. He advised me to quit driving for 6 weeks after he gave me the medication for that, but I would be OK to drive after that. I complied and I never had a problem. I just have to remember to keep my head steady and it goes away eventually. It's unpleasant because I get nauseous, but I don't pass out.

In the middle of the night, I woke up and moved my head suddenly. I thought I was falling off the bed, bracing for impact. Ten seconds later, I could still feel the mattress under me, so no fall and no impact. But my mind did tell me I was falling from a great height. Stupid brain!

Oh, how I wish I could be with all of you this morning. If there are any vines leftover, could you please keep them for me and send them to me by Priority Post? I will gladly pay the postage, no questions asked.

Warm hugs to everyone.
Sylvain.

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Sylvain,
We did have a wonderful day and weather was perfect. I still have 2 tables left with many plants on them to find a home for. I know you want Dutchman's pipe and some sky vine which there is plenty if I can keep it looking alive. I will cut the sky vine just before I send it.
You'll have to give me some time to recuperate as I'm beat. Also your address would help.

If you D-mail me your tel. no. I want to tell you about procedure I had done that stopped my loss of balance.

We sorely missed you and hopefully you can make it to next one.

Bonnie

Winter Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

Bonnie, the day was perfect, and you did a wonderful job. It was so relaxing and nice to just sit and chit chat with other Florida gardeners. Nice to see everyone again. And my gosh was the food ever awesome! Thanks to everyone for taking the time to clip and pot up some of your favorite plants to share also.

Thank you again Bonnie for all your hard work. You're a real sweetie pie.

I'll post the pictures I took later on and hopefully others will post their pictures too. I didn't get that many.

Sylvain and Sandy, hope you both are feeling better and hope to see you at the next Plant Round up. We are thinking a Fall one next time around.

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Sherri, you and many others were a huge help. Now I can slowly find homes for all the leftover plants.

BTW someone left a pair of Fiskars clippers here so hope they contact me and I will ship.

Forgot to tell everyone while they were out front getting clippings to take from the yellow cestrum but it will be there next time I'm sure.

Thanks so much for your coming early and helping set up. Sorry about the ants in the manure pile as I know lots of folks wanted some. I'll have to come up with a way to kill them.

Sherri, Wait about a mo. and lets go to that Roadside place in Barbourville. Love places like that. Just need a fat wallet. LOL Looking forward to pics.

Bonnie

Didn't realize all the hibs Shauna clipped. Enough for a border all along fence on upper pasture. Woohoo

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Bonnie I found the flag and have it in an envelope to be mailed to you tomorrow. Thank you so much for all your work. It was a wonderful day.
I will be happy to host the fall swap at Oceana Condo in Cocoa Beach. I'll enlist the help of the Night Bloomers to pot up their extras. Towards the end of the month on a weekend works for me. When I find the picture of the white spring iris I'll post it here. Anyone wanting hardy water lilies will have to let me know and I can mail from New York for postage.
Mittsy

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

Wonderful Mittsy. Norma of High Sps. just told me she will host fall one also. Yipee 2 to go to that's great with me.

Also, discovered 1 of the hardy water lilies you sent me from NY last year has 4 little leaves on it. It's right in the sun in pot near old pond. I'm hoping for the best.

Please D-mail me your Cocoa address as I have something to send you.
I know it's a long ride over so I appreciate you and Jack coming. Hope you got lots of nice plants to carry home.
Bonnie

I wanted to thank you all for welcoming my aunt and I to the RU. She so enjoyed herself and hopes that next time she can contribute plants to share. it was so much fun for us. She really wanted to get the compost, maybe next time.

I loved meeting everyone and hope I can come in the spring of next year. Fall will not work for me as I will be vacationing with my DH.

We got all her plants in pots and some in the ground. So she will be having lots of fun.
Thanks again for welcoming us to your home Bonnie it was great!!

Clermont, FL(Zone 9a)

So glad you could both make it. Tell Auntie Mo next time I will find a cure for those pesky ants. Never had them in my manure pile like that before. Buggers.

Elfie, you have a safe trip home and hope this summer you can get a start on a pond. Fish in my smaller pond must be mating or spawning cause bubbles on water and a lot of action in the pond. I have never got any babies but who knows.

I'm sure your aunt was very glad to have you visit after 45 years what a blessing.

We will expect you down this way again.
Bonnie
