Happy New Year, gang!

According to the newspaper, this has been the driest year since 1877. (That's 18, not 19.) If we would get a good rain here, it would warm up in the Midwest and East. It nearly always works that way.

Currently 42F . They're calling for a high of 78F. You'll see it all on the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Partly cloudy

-8°F

Feels like -20

Landisburg, PA(Zone 6a)

37 here with snow coming tomorrow.

Mountain View, HI

Happy New Year.

During the storms we had from Sunday thru Tuesday one area 2 miles above Hilo had 20+ inches of rain. Hilo had 11 inches. Hilo airport broke a one day rain record going back to 1951.
We are 18 miles up slope from Hilo and had 2 inches. The storms just sat over Hilo town and the coast road for two days. Nice day today with southerly winds bringing VOG to our area. More heavy rain forecast for Friday and again Sunday or Monday. 70f at 10am.
25 foot Surf on the North Shore of Oahu undermining 10 homes which are slowly coming apart and falling into the ocean

It's a nice day today.I think it got up to the 50's today.Tomorrow it drops back down to the 40's for the high. Here we go again with the weather dropping.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

-3º all day. Overcast.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

High today was 25 at noon or so and has been steadily dropping since. It's currently 17 and we have a good couple inches of snow on ground already.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Temp has dropped to 14 since I started writing that. lol

It's 56 now.Tonight will be 40.It will not get to much warmer then the 40's tomorrow.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Only -2º an actual warm-up.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Winnipeg (and many other places in Saskatchewan and Manitoba) were colder than the surface of Mars (at it's daily high): http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-deep-freeze-as-cold-as-uninhabited-planet-1.2479967

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

and I believe that cold is now on the move......

It's a cold one out today. The wind is blowing big time out.C--O--L--D!!!!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Currently 48F. They're calling for a high of 79F. Did you really want to hear that? To tell you the truth, I'd gladly take lower temps if they'd bring rain, but you knew that. We've had less than an inch of rain since last spring.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

70's , 80's are good , !!! I'll take em !!!
Really Kelli ; if we had about half of each others weather ?, Goldilocks could be the fourth season .. just right ..lol
Snowstorm , possible blizzard for Sunday here .. I am not looking forward to that ... Below zero temperatures Saturday through next week .. . Record type ,, like -14 possible .. ouch !!!

You all 'Have a nice warm time there ,,, Not any wonder why the population drops around these parts during winter ,,,,

Some you could do a nice warm photo or two ? it has a better effect ...lol

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Nice warm photos from Mission La Purisima, in Lompoc. Taken last week.

16 degrees , Zero chill , currently

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

My mom used to have something on the refrigerator that said something to the effect, "If wind of winter come, can spring be far behind?"

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

that saying is a lie (at least for up here) Kelli. :'(

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

One true here " " if snow comes and stays" more than 5 to 7 days " Than more is on the way"

Lunch time !!! Time to go shovel some of this goop ,,(snow)

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

My saying is, "If you can hear the train, it isn't going to rain." We've been hearing a lot of train.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Might be a tornado, though.

A balmy -7º here. It is sunny though.

And no wind!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

At least tornadoes come with rain, not that I want one, though.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Kelli,i can handle 100 degree weather any day over the cold.

SPRING CAN'T GET HERE FAST ENOUGH!!!!

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Third time with this but ;
Comes in ; "Man , am I tired of shoveling snow !!! "
Granny replies ,, "Yes dear "! "But look how pretty my evergreens look" ! ^_^

Last pic , drive ready to be shoveled a third time ,,, more snow to come ,, 5 to 8 inches light snow still falling ,, 12 to 14 inches possible as of yet !!!
3 degrees , blowing snow currently ...
You realize 14 inches of snow , at -14 below zero is not being looked forward to...
However ,, surface bugs beware !!! your on .....

We may not have the snow, but it takes place of the leaves.I have already rake the leaves once.It needs it again.I can handle raking the leaves, because I start to sweat once I start doing it.Not when that wind is blowing 90 to nothing.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

southgal ;Vegetation Hurricane

Lilypon , them old 40 degree basements with a little heater start looking pretty darn good ,, about the zero time ..
Don't they , lol
Well it won't make Mars , night side high here ,, but good luck ,,, brrrrrrr that is too, too ,cold !!!

Juhur,i am closer to the Texas line then i am to New Orleans.

It's 39 now with a wind chill of 34.Tonights low is 25.Tomorrow in the 40's.

I feel for the ones that is going through Winter Storm Hercules!!!

Does any one every put chains on their wheels for traction during winter where it stays bad?

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

We did on one of our old trucks that is 2 wheel drive. But all the ones that are licensed now are 4 wheel drive except for my mom's car which isn't but doesn't need chains either. Frankly if it's just snow and not ice we get plenty of traction and we curse the graders when they come down our road because they mess it up. lol

High around 13 and sunny and now around 9 and dropping. More snow on Saturday and again next week.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

In the mountains around here, chains are required if it snows. I put chains on a car one time. I don't know how a person does it without getting dirty. It was worth it to see the sequoias in the snow, though. Wish I had a digital picture to show you but that was way back in the days of film.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

-17º now.
Going lower. Monday & Tuesday colder yet.

No chains here. We do put them on our tractor for plowing snow.
Back in the 60's Minnesota had studded tires. They worked to good. They were wearing out the asphalt so the state outlawed them.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

I had those tires on my last truck. I loved em!! lol.

That's great that y'all don't have to use chains on the cars and trucks.
