Lilies 2010 - Part 3

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Does everyone have Lollipop? I've seen more pictures of Lollipops than any others this year. Sounds like we're going to populate the world with Lollipops.

Lollipop, Lollipop, oh lolli, lolli, lolli, Lollipop.

Anyone old enough to remember that song?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Nope, I don't have it cuz everybody else does!

POP! ba doo doo doo

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I don't either. It's pretty and I was wondering why I didn't. But now, since it seems to be taking over the world, I'm leery.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I cant begin to tell you how I put Lollipops on the invasive list with Artemisias And Anthemis and a fer Campanulas.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Now, how much can a lily spread, Jo. Can you really compare it to artemesia?

You could go into the lily trade. Pot those suckers up and sell them by the roadside. Get rich. Winter in Aruba.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Groaaaaan. Potting up? I am affraid to toss them they grow without being planted.
They are wild I'm telling ya

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

No Lollipop here. I did have them at the other house.

LATVIA today...

Those are wonderful.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I would be a happy camper if lollipop were invasive for me. Adore the gaudiness of Matrix. I have not been successful with ones like latvia. I got one similar to it, that was orange with that dark center and I haven't seen it yet this year.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Was your Orange with dark center like this?

nope, not as beautiful. Really, like latvia, but orange. I'm just taking a break from removing wallpaper, but if I remember I'll look it up in my journal and post name here.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Ugg hot work on a day like this.
Luckily I am too old to take down walpaper.
I create the space and let someone else do the work.
My new Bathroom, just finished last week.

Where were those dark lilies when I was looking for them last winter.
Midnight Mystery is really great

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

More pretties to look at. I like the pink one.

PollyK, I remember the lollipop song,

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

If anyone received Elodie from me last fall, I think it may really be Aprodite. They look alike, but Aprodite is shorter.

Love your bathroom ge. I have a purple bedroom, so really like the color and the tiles.

he he the contractor thought I was nuts.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Good pastime. I thought I was the only one here. It was from 1958, so you probably don't remember it, you just know it. LOL. None of us are that old. .

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OHH YEahhh?
I was having my 3rd child in 1958.
#4 came the following year.

More on the way. Some of the ones in bud are Hiawatha - the downfacing ones. Installed last fall. I went very RED this year.

We crossposted. Thank you GE.

adore the vamp

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Thank you Voss. The rabbits had nibbled it every year, and then the balance of them got overwhelmed by the roots of an allegheny serviceberry, and I had to try to pry them out, so I am really seeing them for the first time in three years. I'm really happy about it. Although the robins took out one bud, there are almost no rabbits this year. So I am going to get a bumper crop in this bed, in which I have Rosepoint Lace, Ariadne, Hiawatha, The Vamo, and White Henryi. Can't wait! And promise to post.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Now, Jo Ann, you know I was just trying to be nice, since, of course, you know I was around then, also, ahem.

Now, if you remember the song My Old Kentucky Home, from when it was first written, well then you're old! As old as the woman they just found in Indonesia.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Dragonfly, I love your pink lily at 9:20, and beautiful lilies nanny, jmorth, dlefferts, and ge....and everyone! Lili, it is so good to see you here and I see you have a beuatiful bloom as well. And Donna, normally you follow quite a bit behind many of us with your bloom season, but I geuss it is mid-june, right? Very striking red.

Heat has been terrible here. I know Nicole (Lilli) and I have both been struggling with that but if I read ah (Alana's) post rigth it is like this all the way up into the midwest as well. my lily season has been disappointing relative to last year's though I do have some cool ones.

This is either "Gizmo" (an LO) or "Hacienda" (an OT), not quite sure. Gizmo has more green streaking in the PAC NW but in our climate would have less. Hacianda has a small green throat too. Would help if I labeled things LOL. Either way, this is huge, very fragrant, and extremely sun-tolerant. Open for several days in high-90 temps and minimal scorch.

This is a new OT for me - "Saltarello" - was worried about buying this one as peach colored flowers often bleach badly for me, but this one also has been open for several days with little fading and little scorch. Another keeper for hot climates. Thanks B&D!

What woman? I dont believe those peoples ages.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Howdy polly! It is so good to see you here.

This is "Satisfaction" coming back well this year. Many of my OT's are not yet open but I have had ome of them aborting buds at the stalks' tops due to the heat.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Silk Road - have to say this is still the true champ of performance in high heat. Always blooms, gets bigger year after year, and shows minimal heat stress. My tallest OT consistently. Must have lots of trumpet heritage.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Howdy Steve! Love those OTs.

Jo, they found a woman who is supposed to be 157, but it's not documented. What is documented is that her daughter is 108.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

The white trumpety flowers in the middle are LO "Long Island" - plants were much bigger and more budded out than last year, but color intesnsity this year was disappointing with little pink, unlike last year.

Thumbnail by SteveIndy
Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

LOL 157 - I don't believe it either. That is SCARY.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Their years arent as long as ours.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Steve,

All of the individual lilies are gorgeous but what is is great is seeing your layout of your beds. It looks wonderful. I know that your house is fairly new, but you've done a fabulous job composing and and filling the beds. Bravo!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Why thanks Donna - well it looks better now that I was able to pull all of the decaying spring bulb foliage out which despite the heat did not seem to want to completely die....but I still think yours is much neater and better composed. Howver than you for the nice words! I love coming on here and seeing what all of you do with your gardens, as it gives me ideas and motivation on how to improve mine.
