I have a question..Asparagus is in the lily family... is it ok to grow them together?? Has anyone done this and are there any pro's or con's ??

((and before I get reamed for posting here and not in veggies, I'm posting in both))

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

You will never get reamed in this forum. At worst, we might recommend a forum to better answer your question.

Can't imagine that it would be a bad thing to plant them near-by, but I understand that, ideally, an aparagus bed should be free of other plants and weeds.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

what bed SHOULDN'T be free from weeds?! ~LOL~

yes, please... if you have suggestions as to a better forum to ask this question, tell me...

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I grow some asparagus in the flower beds, just for foliage, along with lilies, and I have never seen any problem. I've done it for quite a few years now.

Of course, if the grandkids see the asparagus shoots, they're gone.

Brandon, FL(Zone 9b)

*LOL* my kids actually love asparagus... either baked or grilled with garlic salt and a little EVOO

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

My grandkids like to eat it fresh. To me it tastes a lot like peas, fresh. I like it that way too, in salads, or just plain, or cooked like you said. I especially love it grilled. I guess I just love asparagus.

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

Only Lollipop (thanks to this thread I now know their name), and Matrix are blooming so far in my yard. Here's my patch of Matrix. They certainly are shorties. Glad I gave them their own spot.
