2009 Lily Blooms #9-A Big Thank you

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I adore, and I do mean adore your seedlings pard. Those OT seedling are gorgeous! I love the form in S-3 and S-10, Wow! I would be happy seeing any of those in the garden. You have done a most excellent job with your seedlings.

I'd have to add, I never really thought I could grow a lily from seed. But now that I have, well, there is pollen all over this place. Lol. I am hoping now that things have gotten going (blooming) that I will require less patience. It's funny how instead of being only excited only for the flowering, I get excited about the various germination steps. What have I come to?

Oh Mags, I am happy to come along, but with a bounty that in NO WAY compares to your beautiful flowers.

A bounty of regales, hammered a bit by wind and rain, but troopers.

Artistic, which many people seem to love. It and Regale were my first lilies.

Mags and Pard...You have posted some of the most amazing lilies I have ever seen. I'd be thrilled to have them if they were available commercially.

Patience is NOT one of my virtues, but after seeing the lily on the top of this thread, and then all the "S" babies, you two are respopnsible for me determining it's time to experiment with some seeds...If I can get one as gorgeous as some you've posted, I'll be ecstatic!

Mags and Pard,
like Chocolatemoose, I am inspired to try again with seeds. I look forward to seeing what these babies grow up to be.

I was also inspired by the seminar David Sims gave at the NALS show, I came home and started applying pollen. . . . . . . .

Everything is so lovely. Makes me want to go buy more lilies!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Arena...is looking good this year and has a nice strong stem. It has been so wimpy the first 2 years that I swore if it was not better this year it was out of here. I guess it says!

S-10 is especially most excellent, Pard!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I really do like S-10. I think I gave mags some seeds involving this one... mags??? Will we see some results??

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh my gosh, yes you did pard. They look great out on the deck. Hmmmmm, I'm thinking here, was it a cross with a green trumpet maybe? I'll have to go out and look in the morning. They are all nicely labeled out there and enjoying the cool weather this summer has given them. I have some orientals from some Buggy seeds that actually produced stems! At first when I saw them, I thought they were small maple trees and those seeds seed themselves everywhere, including my seedling pots. I went to pull and then I was like...whoa....that was close. Lol.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I don't remember what my cross was, but S-10 is tetraploid so it had to be a 4n trumpet or OT. S-10 is Sims' PT X RCA (CT3-3). I believe the RC stands for red chevron so that trait didn't express itself in S-10. PT means pink trumpet I think. Maybe the chevron will show up in the offspring? Time will tell, right mags?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Love your first seedling mags! Something tropical about it.

I'd gladly buy S-2 and S-10. Are either of you registering any of these?

Oh pard, that sounds like it could be lovely. Seeds really are the promise of tomorrow's lilies aren't they? Neat. Gotta go out and look at those babies.

susan, you're so sweet. If you consider registering something it seems like watching it in the garden over several years and evaluating it for different things like virus, bortrysis and overall vigor would be something that would need to be done on my end before even considering registering it. Having even one of you lily folks say you like it makes me smile.

I had to measure it.

What wonderful lilies you have there, Moby!

Just so you see what I have to contend with here, if you look closely you will see someone who decided to visit my gardens early this morning and was a bit alarmed to see me snapping pictures during her feast.

This is the S-10 cross. I love pardstock so much that I bought some from NALS too. That one was an S-2 something.
