What's Your View?

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Here's the matching arbor at the other end of the path. I have Pink Giant planted on the right side and another that I can't think of right now. Both were just planted this Spring, so will be awhile before they are very showy. If you look closely at the lamp post you will see that I am infested with bag worms. Yuck! They have killed a tree to the left of this arbor and are working on some other shrubs there and also on the Clemetis. Guess when I get the tree cut down, I have a new spot to plant some tall lilies this fall. Hope bag worms don't eat lilies.

Gloria, I've been gardening on this same small lot for over 20 years now and the fun thing is that it's never really done. Just keep adding a bed or two at a time, fill those up and see if you have the time to care for them and then go from there. Some people have a master plan in their heads or on paper right from the start, but things just kind of happened in my garden. Probably looks that way too, but I enjoy it.

I'v been semi gardening here for 22 years but we moved a new trailor in 10 years a go and I had to dig every thing up I could in a short time in november so that they could do it need less to say they never finished building the house till april of the next year so i lost an unbelivable amount of plants so I'm basicly starting over what diden't die in the snow got 36 inches of dirt on them I cryed for days but I'm better now and I found Daves 2 years ago and all of the wonderful people here that have taught me so much thank you to you all ;0)

Susan, your photos are just awesome....and I love the second to last picture of the entrance in front of your property (I assume that is the street). And it is interesting you mention bagworms - I have them too - and they have just about decimated an Arborvitae I planted just a couple of years ago that had been doing so well. And I have these little ants that scurry around erritically in the back 40 I think called "Crazy Ants" that have taken over and deleafed a new tree I planted two years ago. I am about tired of the insects and about ready to break out an old bottle of diazenon I have in the garage. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Wow you guys, your gardens are just gorgeous!! Someday, when I get to emerge from the spackle and now paint mines, I'll go out and weed my gardens and take some pictures of all the spent flowers. :) LOL Until then, I'll have to live vicariously through all of you. :)

Wow, what a wonderful difference! I love how the garden goes from looking tidy and well-mannered in the Spring to wild in the Summer.

Agawam, MA(Zone 6a)

lincolnitess, I beleive the lily on the far right is 'Black Bird'.

Ok, don't mind the weeds, but if I look out my back door, this is what I see...

Yes it does! Ticker, those talls lilies with a full head of blooms really stand out.
And Mags, with all of yours I'm surprised that you still have grass. ;)

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Great gardens everyone! I really enjoy seeing other people's gardens - it's always so inspiring. Took a few more garden shots. This one doesn't have any lilies (oh no!) - just hosta and astilbe. Just a small garden in a front corner of the house.

Thanks guys. :) Tracey, as per usual your gardens are lovely. Moby, if you think Mags gardens are nice in picture, you ought to see them for real. Pictures don't do them justice. :)

Goldfinch, lovely lovely gardens. Great hostas, too. :)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Still plenty of yard to mow and weeds to pull.

Goldfinch, I love your gardens.

Thanks for sharing all the beautiful garden views. I like seeing a little ore of the overall picture and how the lilies fit in.

Steve, I had to cut down my 7'Arborvitae because of the bag worm damage. I squashed over 1000 of them after work yesterday and then probably another 1000 later in the day. I also sprayed with Sevin, and plan to go home and squash how ever many more I can find today. One yew may be a goner, the barberry bushes have some damage and I've found a few on my lilies and daylilies, but not much damage to them yet. I'm not usually much of a bug killer, but as you said, "Desperate times call for desperate measures."

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Wow Tracey, Diann, where have you been hiding? What awesome landscapes! And jmorth, yours are beautiful. I am very jealous now because asiude from a few perennials and things like Crape Myrtles, most of my stuff is finished. I do have some lilies in pots blooming and a couple in the garden, but that's it. And Goldfinch, I just love your gardens as well. You guys have all done a terrific job.

Sorry to hear about your bagworms as well, Susan. It sucks doesn't it. Makes me wonder where they're coming from all off a sudden as I don't remember them last year.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Big problem I'm encountering is the Japanese Beetles...they seem to congregate on certain classes of plants in the hundreds; this does facilitate their eradication (Sevin and Ortho Max) but the next day they've inevitability re-massed and re-positioned. Fortunately, the lilies are mostly incidental to their targeted preference.
Thanks for the complement Steve.
All the posted vistas look inviting and pleasant.
