2009 Lily Bloom # 8

I thought it was time for a new thread. Finally a couple of lilies open here in Maine. This is Rosepoint Lace.

This was sent to me as Anastasia...obviously it's not!!LOL
Looks more like Invasion but the flowers seem smaller. This person is now out of business. But I had ordered several lilies from her. Only one turned out to be correct and most have been so weak that I have removed them from the garden. I have kept one very pretty NOID pink. and I had held this one since it has never bloomed until this year. At least it is a stong pretty one!

However...I did get some Anastasia from B&B last year. very small but the first one opened today!!! The bad news is I will have to move these in the fall... so it will be a couple of years before I see good growth on them.

Lilies and Sedum in the front yard.

Blackout is just starting to bloom. Wow, the color is increadible. It just seems to glow.

So many lilies to catch up on. Overwhelming. From the last thread: Have had my eye on Elise. And that Morden Butterfly. Think I've seen it in Lily Nook catalog... Is that where you got it, Magnolialover? And is it a raspberry kind of red, or a red kind of red? It's gorgeous.

Here's a clump of Zeus (with a couple others, past their prime, mixed in). This was ten Zeus bulbs last year. This year, its second, I think I got 16 with blooms. Not counting the ones the dog decapitated while chasing squirrels. That's what I've got instead of deer and bunnies. A squirrel-mad dog.

Also from the other thread -- Scubadoobie, it's nice to see another Chicagoan here. Nice lilies, too.

I love Rosepoint Lace, too. Lovely.

Here's Raggio di Sole (sp?). Much lighter hue this year, and some frost damage too.

I think 'Morden Butterfly' came from a society sale a couple years ago. The color is very striking and a camera does not capture it. It is the same one that the Lily Nook has for sale though.

And I think I have plenty of NOIDS, some just as lovely as named. If you like it, does it need a name ^_^ ? The names are nice to have, yes, but the flowers are even nicer.

These are all fantastic to look at! And hi back at ya, Wickerparker...I'm in Uptown and have had fun the last couple years planting up a border for our 6-flat with one of my neighbors. Finally this year I get to dig a little less and watch for blooms :)

Yay!! more lilies blooming!! I love Rosepoint Lace, it's another of my favorites. I went out to wander around and I have several orienpets and a few trumpets blooming. I was too tired to take the camera with me tho. Maybe tomorrow... I'm still at work in the spackle mine...

Earliest Pink was an offering from the Lily Garden to the Pacific Northwest Lily Society last year. I am sure there is some L lankogense (did I spell that correctly).

Ramona, glad to see you're getting blooms! My 'Time Zone' stared blooming yesterday and had me thinking of you. It looks very similar to the Japanese hybrids and has that waxy, porcelain OT look. (Some sources list it as Oriental, some as OT, this spring we were trying to figure out what it really is).

jmorth, again this year, I'm loving your 'Beauty Rose'- stunning!

Moby, that garden shot of Ortega is stunning! It simply shines above all the color surrounding it- such perfect placement to really show it off. Your garden is glorious! My 'Robina' is just about to pop open- yours has me excited to see it :-)

I've been out of town the last few days and so much has bloomed. Tried to take pics yesterday but the memory card in the camera needs formatting- gotta get someone to do that for me since I'm a simpleton where stuff like that's concerned, LOL. OTs are going strong and Orientals are off to a good start here. We've had cooler weather the last week or so, and I've noticed quite a difference in the coloring in some that opened during hot weather and those that have opened more recently. The latest 'Bonbini' to open have deep rose markings, and some other OTs are looking very like the catalog pics. Nature seems to be cooperating this year, what a pleasant contrast to the last couple of years!

I took this a few days ago when these had just started blooming, now there are several open and its spectacular. It's supposed to be one of the American series, and is my very favorite of the series that I've tried. Such huge, open blooms, about 8" across, and strong fragrance. Its the deepest, dried blood red and doesn't fade at all in the strong afternoon sun it receives.
