This huge bug scared the beegeezus out of me and the dog. Buzzed past us as we were relaxing under the pergola. At first, I thought it was a hummingbird -- it was at least 4 inches long! It landed in the flower bed, walked around a bit and then took off. Never to be seen again, I hope...

From what I have read, the Tarantula Hawk has an extremely painful sting. When I took my pics of them, I didn't know what they were, or that - if provoked - can sting you.
