This is a 'Good Guy Bug'. The Hoverfly is found throughout North America in meadows, fields and gardens wherever flowers bloom.
The adult drinks nectar, the larvae feed on aphids and larvae of scale insects.
It gets it's name from the way it can hover in the air above the flowers. A highly beneficial insect that helps eliminate insects that attack ornamental and crop plants.
