I received my rose order of three roses the week of April 12, 2009. While I was pleased with the size of the roses and the price, one of the roses, Benjamin Britten, had blackspot on several of the leaves. I have been growing roses for years, and I do know blackspot when I see it. I contacted Chamblees with my concern last week and included two pictures of the rose, which I took after opening. I as yet have had no response to my concern, which is troubling as I have read many positive reviews of the company and influenced my decision to order from them.

On April 29th, 2009, hlebear changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:

The nursery is reshipping the rose variety I had trouble with so I am happy with the result. As I said previously, I was happy with the size and age of the other roses I received. I am also glad to find such a wide selection of own root roses.

"On Apr 24, 2009 5:54 PM, Chamblee's Rose Nursery responded with:

We are very sorry for your dissatifaction with the Benjamin Britten rose which had blackspot upon delivery. Our policy is to replace any rose you are not satisfied with for ninety days from your date of purchase or give you a complete refund. This has just been brought to my attention. I have been out of town from Wednesday April 22, 2009 until Friday April 24, 2009. We are using invironmentally friendly methods of pest control and sometimes these methods have a hard time controlling disease in stressful times of high humidity and cool temperatures. We appreciate every customer and our customer sevice reputation. I assure you we have not neglected your concern and it will receive our immediate attention. We appologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Sincerely, Mark R. Chamblee"

I was very happy with the shipment of healthy and blooming roses I just received from Chamblees. They were packaged the best I have ever seen, the soil was moist as the bottom of the pot was bagged and rubberbanded keeping the canes and blooms dry. They were also larger than I would expect for own root roses. They kept right on blooming as soon as I put them in their new homes. I only wish their shipment communication was better, it would be nice to receive a shipping confirmation rather than wondering if everything went to plan. That said, this is a quality product, I highly recommend them and I will never buy anything from Jackson and Perkins again (J&P definitely does not stand behind their products regardless of how good a customer you have been).

I am thrilled with the fantastic roses I just received from Chamblee's. I can't believe how large and healthy these roses are. It was a delight to open the box and find two of the roses with a few blooms, not from stress but rather because the plants are so well-developed. I will definitely be ordering from Chamblee's again.

I never comment on this forum, but I have to say I was EXTREMELY pleased with the roses I received. I ordered 6 climbing roses from Chamblee's and 4 from another company. Chamblee's roses were BY FAR the better-looking roses. They were larger, arrived healthier and were quite a bit cheaper. I received plants twice the size for an average of $5 less per plant! If they hadn't been sold out of the others I wanted, I would've purchased all of them from Chamblee's. I highly recommend them.

By far, Chamblee's is my first choice for purchasing roses via mail order. I always look at their site first when searching for a particular cultivar. Their plants are carefully packed and always arrive in terrific condition, robust and often with buds. They always perform extremely well in my gardens. Chamblee's prices are hard to beat too, with lower shipping rates than many, no agricultural inspection fee added on, and lower per rose prices for gallon-sized plants. On the rare occasion that there was a plant that wasn't up to my expectations, Chamblee's has been quick to send a replacement. It would be difficult to find a better place to order your roses! A++++ nursery!

I ordered three roses to be shipped on the last shipping day of spring. My selections were based on my daughter's names. So, when I received three yellow roses in the mail, I was disappointed. I called Chamblee's Nursery and they apologized for the mistake. They told me to keep the three yellow roses and the next week they sent my Charlotte, Sophy and Glamis Castle roses (just a pretty rose, not a kid's name). Needless to say, I'm very happy with the customer service. The plants, all six of them, arrived healthy and are thriving.

My only complaint would be with their lack of communication. I ordered in March for May delivery. I got two emails from them, both in March, to confirm the order and then tell me the order was being processed. I never got an email in May to tell me that the roses were shipped, so I had to "assume" they went out on the date I had specified. The roses were shipped on the right date, but I had to call them to confirm this. I am pleased that I received them, but would have appreciated an email with a tracking number at time of shipment.

I have been ordering from Chamblee's for 3 years now. Every time I place an order, I receive healthy, high quality plants that are often blooming right out of the box. To illustrate how great their roses are, I received a shipment of 5 plants last April, the week we found out we had to move to another city. I didn't want to plant them if I was not going to be living there anymore, so I repotted the roses and they had to sit on my porch until the end of July when we moved. We loaded them into my brother's pick-up, where they were whipped around at 70 mph for a 2 hour drive on I-80 to Cleveland. Then the poor things had to sit on my new porch in pots until early September, when I finally had the chance to make a place for them in my new yard. You'd think I'd have killed them, but no way! Within a month they were blooming. In fact, they never even completely defoliated--maybe it's because I live so close to Lake Erie, but I'm still amazed that they survived a nothern Ohio winter so well without any protection. It is now April again and they are beautiful, healthy, and growing strong in my new garden. I have ordered 4 more roses this spring and they just arrived, looking terrific. The prices are good and the quality is first rate--I will not buy my roses from anyone else but Chamblee's except under the rare exception that they do not have a variety that I want.

I purchased four "the fairy" roses last summer from Chamblee's. They were shipped once the weather cooled down, in mid September, exactly when they said they would. Unfortunately, we had one of the worse winters here in many years and I am happy to say they came through it all in wonderful condition-lots of new growth and very healthy looking. I am very pleased with Chamblee's and will definitely order from them again. It's so nice to know that there are still businesses out there that care about quality products and service. There should be a choice for above positive! I ordered 4 roses from Chamblee's. The shipping is expensive, BUT, if one wants own root roses, that are not dormant, this is the way to go. All 4 roses were well packaged in 1 gallon containers, and were kept wedged into the shipping container by empty gallon containers as well as some newspaper. This was my first time ordering roses through the mail, and WOW am I impressed. I checked for everything that could be wrong, and there was not one thing that was wrong, NOT ONE! So, although the cost of shipping was slightly less than the cost of the 4 roses I ordered, I can not complain; I paid for and got great things.
Customer satisfaction: SUPERB!
Plant Materials: OUTSTANDING!!!
I will, when the time comes to buy more roses, be ordering from Chamblee's again!

Placed an order for nine roses on 3/14/08 and received them all on 4/5/08. They were beautifully packed, wedged snugly together in their plastic-wrapped one-gallon pots with two or three empty pots helping to secure them. I am happy that there was no styrofoam. I can reuse the pots and, if I eventually have too many, local nurseries will probably be happy to take them. Although the instructions on the outside of the box warned that they might be a little yellow from the trip, they were green, pristine and perfect. Many were budded and some were blooming. They are beautiful, and I am very impressed. If they don't do well in the ground, it will be no one's fault but my own.

My first time ordering from Chamblee's and I am pleased. Roses were well packaged and appear healthy. Not huge but a good enough size. Some leaves discolored and curling inward. We'll see. Good prices and reasonable shipping.

VERY VERY PLEASED with Chamblee's Rose Nursery! :D
This is my first time ordering from them and I will most certainly order from them again for all my rose needs in the future. I placed an order for 2 Gruss an Aachen and 2 Pink Gruss an Aachen around Febuary 11th or 12th and I knew the next shipment was not to be shipped until the 18th. But, I am pleasantly suprised to have found a nice box waiting for me after work, 11pm, today. Considering the post office did not work on Monday, it only took 4 days to get here including Monday. Inaddition, 4 very healthy, green rose bushes that were carefully n individually wrapped greeted me when I slit open the box! This will make my rose bush venture much easier since the plants are so healthy. (no yellowing or dead anything here.)

end of story: Big dumb grin on my little face after a very long day at work. Thanks Chamblee's Rose Nursery! You've literally made my day! God Bless!

In the spring of 2007, I read about the "Peggy Martin" rose that survived Katrina. As a resident of southern Louisiana, I was impressed that a portion of all proceeds would go to restoring parks in the New Orleans area. Chamblee's was one of the nurseries that would be selling these roses.

I called Chamblee's to place an order, and was told they were not yet ready. I was told the exact date they would be ready to ship in September, and my credit card would not be charged until then. I received a postcard confirming my order and the date of the shipment. For the price, I expected small plants in small pots. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised at what I received. The smallest plant was over 12" tall, and all were very healthy. The packaging was wonderful!!

I found out we were being transferred back to Texas, so I planted mine in large pots to move with me. I staked them with Tomato cages, and all over 3' now.

Thank you to the very polite and helpful young woman I spoke with. (Holly?) I highly recomend this company, and will order again when settled in Weatherford.

My husband and I made the 135 mile trip today to Tyler, Texas and visited Chamblee's. I had pulled copies from their web site of all the roses in which I was interested and brought them along with me.

I was most impressed. They have literally, acres of roses. One thing I liked about their roses is that all are own-root roses, not grafted. I also like the fact that they do not sell bare-root roses, but have a minimum of one gallon containers.

The young gentleman who waited on us was polite, friendly (but not overly friendly) and knowledgeable about roses.

We were able to purchase all but two of the roses on my list. The stock was too low for them to sell right now. I'll be able to get them next season. My husband found some climbers he liked, so we got those, too.

Their pricing is very reasonable. We paid $8.95 for the one gallon container roses. We also bought two two-gallon containers for $14.95 and one three-gallon for $19.95. There are other mail order sellers who will charge that much for bare root or grafted roses.

Personally, I will never purchase another grafted rose again. Nor will I purchase a bare root plant again. We wound up spending about $250, and it was worth every penny. All the plants looked very healthy with lots of foliage. Some had buds and a couple had blooms.

I highly recommend Chamblee's. Their web site is very informative, so one will know what to expect of the plants purchased.

They also have a very cool dog who is the official customer greeter. We brought our two small dogs with us, and Bubba, our Pomeranian turned into a growl machine. Their dog, who could have used him for snack food, just backed away politely. Sapphire, our Maltepoo, sniffed him, and he stood quietly while she completed her inspection.

The folks at Chamblee's are great people and have supberb roses. I highly recommend them.
