The first time I ordered from this company, April, I ordered nine roses. They were healthy and well packaged. I was very pleased with the roses so submitted another order in May. Those just arrived in good shape. The condition of the roses makes me confident they'll be beautiful additions to my garden. I'd definitely order from this company again. As a plus, they have an extensive selection.

I easily have over 100 roses in my gardens. The healthiest and best have come from Chamblee's. My first rose order of the year is always from them. Only if they don't carry the rose do I look elsewhere and only if its a rose I really really desire. Otherwise if Chamblee's doesn't carry it, I wait until they do. The roses do arrive small; however, by the end of the season they've caught up to roses that were planted in previous years and I'm zone 5 so I have a shorter growing season. The only downside is I wish their search engine on their website offered a few more ways to narrow down the rose varieties (fragrance, zone, color, size, etc). But otherwise, there is no rose nursery I'd rather do business with.

I ordered roses from Chamblee's because of the positive feedback posted here on garden watchdog. I was not disappointed. This is an excellent rose supplier with a wide selection and shipping in gallon sized pots. Some of the roses were blooming even though they had traveled half way across the country packed in a cardboard box. I am very impressed and would encourage anyone to order from this vendor.

I was so satisfied with the service and the roses( 3 ballerina rose bushes) that I decided to buy more this year. They won't sacrifice quality for a buck and have stopped shipping until fall. It's too hot on the trucks for the roses and they'd rather lose a sale than send stressed-out roses! How's that for integrity?

I'm lucky- I'm only 70 miles from Tyler, TX and made the trip. The greenhouses are amazing- 300 roses to choose from, easy to find everything, and, a staff that actually wants to help you and, they really knows roses. Why can't every business operate this way???

I have ordered something like 100+ roses from many different rose growers over the past decade, including Chamblee's. Chamblee's is my preferred grower over all the rest. Their customer service is excellent, orders (except for one) have always been accurate on arrival and the one time it wasn't they didn't give me any trouble and shipped the correct rose to me post haste! I have never had a rose die on me from Chamblees (that I didn't kill myself, that is). This is not the case from other growers. For instance, I have ordered from the Antique Rose Emporium before, and while I love their wide selection, one of the roses they sent me died shortly after arrival (I suspect from cane dieback, it had been pruned for shipment) and it was like pulling teeth getting them to accept responsibility and ship another one.

Chamblees roses are also very reasonably priced.

If I could change anything about Chamblees I would have them add more exemplar pictures of the roses to the site, have some pictures of roses in different types of gardens (like cottage vs formal) and broaden the way they aggregate roses - they need categories like "full, low growing shrub roses" or "mannerly climbers" vs "house eaters". With a decade of rose growing, Chamblees is pretty much the only grower I order from unless I can't find the variety in their shop.

The next day i called and added another rose to the order, they shipped them together as i asked. It has been a very pleasureable experience with this company, and believe me, i have order from them all, i have 88 roses, some companies are not so good with customer service, some send you nearly dead plants, but to do business with a company that has great customer service and great roses, well thats a plus. I'm just so pleased to receive these beautiful plants (Wild Blue Yonder, Abraham Darby, Pegasus, Evelyn, and Dark Lady) so quickly (next day turnaround for shipping from Tyler, TX to Houston, TX). Ordered from Chamblee's during a sale, I believe, in January. 8 roses arrived right on time, this week. After 4 days in transit, they looked as if I had brought them home from a local nursery!

The Green China rose has at least 7 blooms on it, several others have buds about to open. I am delighted at the quality of the plants, and the safety of the shipping. Pots were still moist, and I almost hesitated to water them as directed when they arrived.

I will definitely be back to Chamblee's again. The biggest thing for me, aside from the quality of the plants, is the fact that I did not have to 'remind' them of my order-it shipped autmatically, at the correct time, through their system.

This is what customer service is about!! Thanks Chamblee's.

I ordered 4 roses. Chihuly, Portmerion, Benjamin Britten, and Monsieur Tillier. They shipped yesterday and arrived today. They came in excellent condition, much better than you could have gotten at home depot or lowe's. The Chihuly even had 1 rose blooming! I will definitely order 4 or more in the fall!

They came in plastic containers wrapped in transparent plastic to keep the dirt from falling out. Newspaper was loosley wrapped around each plant.

If you're going to order roses and chamblee rose nursery has the cultivars you want, you need to order from them! Their roses are about 1/2 the price of roses sold at garden centers at home depot & Lowe's and the David Austin roses they carry are about 1/2 price than roses sold at david austin's website. Definitely a big deal!

You must order from Chamblee Rose Nursery!

I just received my first order of 6 roses from this company. They were well packed. Even after sitting in the warm sun (delivery person left them there) - probably for a couple of hours, they were in good shape when I unpacked them (moist soil), and looked great after a day spent outside in a shady location.

This is my first experience with own-root roses, but I'm very pleased with the product and service from this company so far. The plants were larger than I'd expected and look very healthy, and one variety had buds or blooms on all three plants.

I will be placing all my orders with Chamblee from now on.

Duchess de Brabant is LOADED with huge buds and I cannot wait for her to explode with blossoms. SDML, Abe Darby, Gruss an Aachen and all of the marvelous roses are big and healthy this year.

I have been meaning to leave a comment for some time now! I bought a bunch of David Austin Roses in March 2009: 3 Heritage, 3 Pat Austin, 3 Portmeirion, 1 Evelyn, and 1 L.D. Braithewaite rose. All came in fabulous condition, packed very well. Some plants even had buds on them. I will say the roses that have done best are Heritage. In one summer they grew 5 feet tall!!! I actually had to cut them back a bit and they have only been in the ground a year. Evelyn gives out some huge flowers that are so gorgeous and smell amazing- I had my last and largest bloom on November 12! The others did not perform as well but they had plenty of blooms for their first summer in the ground. L.D. Braithewaite only gave me a couple of blooms, so I transplanted him to another area of the garden and I hope he does better this summer. I am really looking forward to spring/summer 2010 cause I am expecting a show of gorgeous and fragrant blossoms! I have already purchased a couple more and waiting anxiously for their arrival- Queen Elizabeth rose for my grandmother, and an Abraham Darby for me! Love this company. They have great prices which means I can get more for my money.

I went to chamblees to purchase roses. I told them I was new to roses and wanted good quality roses.

I bought 20 plants that were only 5$ each. The person said you want to look for one that is healthy and has a good system with three good canes as she pointed to the canes in the pot.

As a newbie, I would've appreciated more honesty.

I saw them later at a garden show selling the same plants for $6.97 each.

The plants all had three cuttings in them instead of three canes on one plant.

When you took them out of the pots, they were distinctly separate plants and were not very old rooted cuttings.

They were not what I was told and not what I expected to recieve.

After three years of learning about roses, I now look online about what to expect before going out to buy roses.

For the same amount (acutally 3 cents less) I bought roses from Wal-mart that were bare root, wrapped in plastic with compost keeping the roots moist. They were actually three cane roses and had a strong root system. No babying or pampering was needed when they were planted out.

Chamblees has own root roses and they are not graded by any standards. Only grafted roses are graded.

Having learned this, I personally will not buy their roses again.
I like own root roses, but I prefer healthy roses grown for at least two years. They are much less stressed and have a much better chance of survival.

Now if they (chamblees) had told me that I could get healthier and older plants by paying more, I would have done that. The problem I have is that they were asked to give me guidance as a newbie and some advice on roses. I actually went there to buy 20 roses and would have paid $10 - $15 a plant had they given me the proper advice.

On February 17th, 2010, charlenesplants changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:

Well, that was then and this is now. I was truly a newbie at roses at the time I made that purchase.

I have been back several times to purchase roses from Chamblee's. The salesperson who assisted me the first time just didn't give me the info that someone as green as I was needed. I also needed to find out more about how roses are grown and sold.

I would never buy roses anywhere else except for Chamblee's now because I have found that the quality far excels the quality of other rose growers.

I have had a much better experience with salespersons answering my "green" questions about roses.

I just needed to grow and the sales peson just needed to understand just how much I didn't know about roses.

Sorry Chamblee's you are the best and I know that now!!

On Sep 19, 2007 1:17 PM, Chamblee's Rose Nursery added:

We politely take the time to reply to this negative rating, but would like to list the inconsistencies in the negative claim:
1) The only garden show in Tyler, Texas, that our roses have been sold at were not sold for $6.97. If this was the price, these were not our roses.
2) The roses we have for $5.00 at our nursery are very old plants that have been discontinued due to slow sales of these varieties. Our sales staff would not have introduced these roses to a customer claiming to be "new" to roses, as larger, well-established varieties are much more appealing. We also stay in business by selling our higher quality roses. The "bargain" roses are geared toward gardeners who are not looking for specific varieties and want a low price.
3) All of our roses, including the $5.00 roses, carry a 90 day guarantee and we will be glad to replace them if they do not perform. We were not contacted by you for this information.
4) Although you refer to yourself as a "newbie", you state that you have been learning about roses for three years and have taken a class at ARE. We are always happy to educate our customers properly. In fact, we hold an annual Rose Adventure for those customers who study roses as deeply as you claim to.
5) Bare root roses are grafted roses and require much care in order to survive. Grading laws do not apply to own-root roses, as governed by United States Department of Agriculture. We only carry own-root roses, and our product cannot be honestly compared to a grafted rose sold at Wal-Mart. Numerous rose growers would support the fact that own-root roses are hardier, and easier to grow than grafted roses.

As always, had you contacted us regarding your displeasure with our staff or our products, we would have been more than happy to correct the situation. As you can tell, we are highly regarded when it comes to customer service. We are pleased to here that you are a happy customer of Antique Rose Emporium as they are a customer of ours, and friends in the rose community.

I was so very excited to be ordering from this company for the first time since I had heard such great reviews! I am sad to say that the rose shipped did not meet my expectations (it was a sunny knockout rose)! Firstly their packing job was less than desirable (the rose was placed into the bottom of the box and the remaining space was packed with newspaper breaking many of the branches on the rose). As for the plant, it was obviously just transferred into a gallon sized pot when it clearly should have been kept in the pot it was already in.
SO, the plant was already small, and many of the branches were broken off so I decided to email them and tell them of my experience. Luckily they responded promptly and I am pleased to say they sent me a new plant that was better than the first, but still packed in a less than desirable way!
All in all I am not too happy with the company, I think that they really need to try and do a better job of shipping their plants, which seem to be very good quality I might add! The two roses that I received from there, the one I ordered and the replacement, are both doing well now despite the harsh treatment they received initially.

It was well-packed, in a pot with moist soil, and had suffered no breakage. It has been in the ground a couple of months now and seems to be doing wonderfully!

Would definitely order from them again.
