Comments regarding Gardener's Supply Company

Overpriced, not by a little, but by a lot. Felco #2 pruner is $44.95. I found it at Stillbrook for $39.95, at dealtime.com and Muddy Boots Mercantile for $34.95, and at the Felco store for $32.39 (albiet on sale). Shop around before buying here.

I receive special email offers from this company, and quite often I'm disappointed to find items that I'm interested in are listed on their website, but not in stock.

I recently ordered a split bamboo decorative fence from them, and I'm happy with it. It was easy to install, as advertised, and after extensive searching online, I determined that they definitely had the lowest price on the item. It would have been nice, however, to have clearer instructions on care of the fence.

After receiving catalogs for several years ,I finally placed an order for a grass clipper.I received my order within one week.The product was as advertised.I would order from this company again.Tamarava

Very easy to order online, product was shipped quickly with reasonable shipping fees. However, the item was not as described online. I called and spoke with customer service and was immediately credited for the purchase price and told to keep the item anyway (I had ordered some trellis netting). I was pleased with how my problem was handled. Janet (CS rep) told me that they want to keep their customers happy, and they succeeded. I would order from them again, even though there were problems with my first order.

Good customer service goes a long way to make customers happy :)

I am not an employee of Gardener's Supply of Burlington, VT, and know no one that works there. Was there 10 yrs. ago, found by accident and back again a week ago when they had a shipment of bulbs and bare root prerennials from their newly acquired company, DUTCH BULBS. Based on the reputation of Gardener's Supply, I'm hoping that their co-buy with DUTCH Bulbs has the same good reputation. (Find out this summer as I've purchased many (bulb) lilies.) All on sale and no postage for us folks making the 40 miles trip north.

Getting into gardening big time, meaning gardening addicts rec. mailorder catalogs right after Christmas now, and me rapidly buying in supermarket, or have subscribed to gardening mags. ~ which is my winter monthly FIX.

Their ads not only makes me proud that Gardeners Supply from the river area Interval of Burlington, VT. has ads in all major gardening catalogs, and a huge current ad in local paper. (Hey, we all get puffy proud when a state product is featured, and I'm sure they are paying mega bucks for their ad.)

10 yrs. ago when I first heard of Gardener's supply, and finally found it down by a river through 'backword' directions from a friend, and my gardening son and I found this warehouse on sorta' a riverbed swamp. But, with credit card in hand, they produced from the back of warehouse, all our current dreams of that time. And we built on those dreams every year. And are back to see the remodeling and beautiful building, a thousand more supplies, and this spring, $$$ outnumbered what we spent of $200, 10 years ago.

What is more important for you readers/folks that order from them, IS what they have grown to become in the way of community service. Huge newspaper articles have been written about them in Vermont, and around the country. They have taken a tangled mud swamp of many miles along a huge river, and created community gardens, also a composted business that takes in all natural restaurant throw outs of coffee grounds, vegetive material, and so much more that I've forgotten. All 100% organic to the most organic possible.
(That word has it's little secrets.) Compost can be bought by bag at a healthy price, but those of us with trucks, can go down and load up much cheaper. I wish I could add all the things the environmental dreams and community services that that Gardening Supplies owner/board and super dreamers have done to the Intervale in Burlington, VT. And for our environment. Behind the ads you see in mags., know that this group are totally dedicated with all avenues of their community and totally organic.

And for heaven's sake, keep your wish list down, and don't EVER walk into their outlet store or the main new center, with a credit card. ARRRGH!! (Mailorder seems a bit pricey, but I haven't seem a any GARDEN-WATCHdog mailorder information on this website, or catalogs I've received that are "comfortably cheap" - though we don't always get what we pay for, and that's why GARDEN Watch is the place to check on a weekly basis. My dealing with this company was as good as everyone said it would be. My order was shipped fast, everything was what I expected it to be, and the prices were reasonable. I ordered their APS system for seed starting, among other things. I was nervous since I've never tried to start seeds before, but it really is as foolproof as they say it is. Most of my seeds are up and looking great.

Once again, this company has come through for me. I have had the pleasure of shopping at their brick and mortar store and online, and I have never been disappointed. Ordered two hydrangeas from their latest catalog which they said they would ship at planting time. Plants arrived on time but box was damaged, probably by shipper. Called and they immediately responded and offered to send out new plants. This is what keeps me coming back to this place time and time again.

Some unique and useful products as well as reasonable prices and quick service. I recently tried to order some items they no longer carried and that I could not find elsewhere. Jane, a GS customer service rep., went beyond the call and spent time finding comparable products at another, unrelated company. So while I will buy THAT product elsewhere, I will continue to check GS first for all my garden supply needs.

I ordered from Gardener's Supply for the first time on 2/28, and received it all in great shape on 3/5. I ordered the blue faux ceramic pot, among other things, and am very pleased. It's everything they said it would be.

The only thing I wish they had done differently would have been to put the order in three boxes instead of two. One of the boxes was so big I couldn't get it into my apartment! I had to open it in the hall and break it down to dispose of it.

I'll have to return some things -- not their fault, just not suitable for me. I'll let you all know how they handle returns.

I have been ordering from Gardener's Supply for many years now over the internet. Recently an order was shipped incomplete. I called and within the first ring someone answered the phone. My order had been shipped in two separate boxes tied together in which I only received one of the boxes. I was told another would be on the way within 10 working days. I am very happy with their customer service and will continue to use them for my gardening supplies.

I've placed many orders through Gardener's Supply and have been very happy with their products and their service. I highly recommend this company.

Had it not been for this site and all of the positive ratings for Gardener's Supply, I would have missed out on some great deals and fast shipping from one of my new favorite companies. I'm new to gardening and have had some difficulty finding reliable companies to order from, but I would highly recommend Gardener's supply as a reliable company. They have gained a new customer.

What else can be said about perfection? I have ordered from them several times. All items have been in stock and shipped very fast! (I'm very impatient) I go online and shop knowing I will be satisfied. This is a great place to shop!!

I can't say enough good things about this company. I find I'm buying more and more from them! All items have always been in stock, and shipped the next day. I often order over the weekend, and have my order by Tuesday or Wednesday the latest. Other companies take 2 weeks. I've even re-ordered additional quantities of items I've bought before. On one internet order the discount did not calculate, so I called them and the gentleman on the phone could not have been friendlier or more helpful. He put the credit in my order for me. I have to practice more restraint: I now have more birdhouses than I have trees!

I have ordered from Gardener's Supply dozens of times over the past few years. They have always been helpful and delivered the merchandise quickly. I'll relate this story to show how customer service oriented they are. I have their self-watering window boxes and when my son was filling the reservoir he broke off the guage that shows the water level. Since it was our fault the guage was broken I called them and asked how I could order a replacement guage. They said they'd send me one free of charge! This was great, I certainly expected to pay for it and was pleasantly surprised.

They have been great about accepting returns and answering questions about their products. I highly recommend them!

I ORDERED SOME COPPER POST CAPS AND WAS PLEASED WITH THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT. I HAD PREVIOUSLY BOUGHT SOME FROM LOWES AND PAID ABOUT 3 TIMES AS MUCH. GRANTED THEY WERE A LITTLE DIFFERENT BUT NOT ENOUGH TO WARRENT THE EXTRA COST. MY ORDER WAS FILLED BY A REAL PERSON AND SHIPPING WAS TIMELY, AS ADVISED. I WILL ORDER AGAIN.

Great company to do business with. I ordered three items from them last week, the first arrived in 2 days (I didn't pay any extra for faster shipping) the second item the next day. Upon checking the packing slip I realized one item was missing. The UPS package was damaged but sealed and the driver noted it on the receipt.
I called Gardener's Supply 800 number, explained the problem to a wonderful customer service rep amd the missing item was mailed right out and I received it today. There was no hassle or haggling over whether UPS had lost the item or what. I've ordered from this company several times over the years and have always been satisfied with the quality of their products and their service.

I love this company! They have great quality products and a great variety. The only complaint I have is some of the products are a little pricy. You do have to pay for quality sometimes though.

Purchased many items from this company to start 3 new raised vegetable beds and other miscellaneous garden items. The order was received promptly and was well packaged. Products have proved themselves to be top-notch, very pleased. Make sure to check for on-line coupons for various savings offers. Will definately buy from again.

I've been very happy with the items I've ordered from Gardener's Supply. This year, as a special 50th birthday present, I got a LaFuma garden lounge chair from them, the one they advertise as "the ultimate in comfort", and I have to agree that although it was pretty pricey ($175), it is divinely comfortable. Service was really good - no problems at all, as easy can be. Their range of products is great; I tend to get paralyzed by indecision when faced with the tempting catalogue, but that's my problem, not theirs. And now I can read it lounging happily in my expensive adjustable lounge chair!

When they say "100% satisfaction guaranteed" they mean it. I ordered a crock compost pail from them. It was quite pretty. Unfortunately, the handle was poorly designed. The pail fell twice while I was carrying it to the compost pile. It broke twice. The first time, we fixed it. The second time, it shattered. I wrote them & told them my sad story. I bought the pail, maybe, 6 months prior. I did not have a receipt. They mailed me a replacement compost pail of a different design.

How can you not like a company that offers great products with the serious/recreational gardener in mind, that carries everything you could need but cannot find locally, and whose shipping is not only reasonable but FAST? Gardener's Supply Co. certainly gets my vote for a five star experience!

What would I do without Gardeners Supply? They have a wide range of items designed to make gardening easier--plant supports are outstanding, and if you haven't tried their Hydro mats for potted plants --you're missing out! Their customer service is outstanding. I order from them several times a year, and it's always a positive experience.

I ordered through the internet a couple weeks before Christmas. My order arrived in a couple of days (ok I live the next state over - but still it was Christmas time). Everything was packaged well and looked just like the catalogue. Their web site is easy to navigate, and they include directions to their main store and outlet store (definitely worth a visit if you are in Vermont)

Always happy with the quality from Gardener's Supply. I feel like a kid in a candy store whenever I get their catalog. There's always so much I want to buy.

I purchased 2 of their APS Seed Starter kits, and have had great results. The idea of having a self-watering starter kit made me feel a whole lot better about trying to grow from seed. My tomatoes and peppers that I started in the APS look great.

Bought some 'potato bins' from them three years ago. I guess they (and I!) didn't know that you should NOT bury the leaves while they are growing. I proceeded to monitor growth and added straw and soil up to almost 3 feet high in the bins, always leaving the last few leaves uncovered. In the fall, I expected to see a lot of potatoes, but found only TWO marble sized spuds in the 6 bins. Even though I thought that I may have done something wrong with fertilizer or soil mixtures. Tried them a second year, and got only TWO small potatoes. After that, I figured that something was wrong with their instructions. I contacted them to ask about the problem, and was told that many others experienced the same difficulty. I was given a full refund even after two years. Since then, I have cut down some of the 3 foot all bins into one foot tall rings, and have sucessfully grown potatoes last year, WITHOUT burying any leaves.

There was also an instance of buying their very expensive, custom made plant grow flourescent lamps (4 foot size). Once they were installed in my light fixtures they would burn out in less than 3 days. This happened to six different lamps. I called them about the problem and was told that no other complaints were given, however they would refund my total cost. Later on, I suspect that because all of my fixtures have electronic starters, and NOT the small plug in type starters usually found on these fixtures it probably burned out the start 'filements' inside the bulbs. Since then, I don't see the potato bins or lamps being sold through their catalogs anymore. They DO listen to their buying public and take to heart any problems that we might have with their products. All problems are quickly resolved.

I purchased a weeding hoe from Gardeners Supply some years ago, paid a good price for it. It's my favorite tool. Keeps an edge like no other hoe I've ever owned, is lightweight but powerful. I also purchased a grub hoe from them at the same time,,,a back killer, but a workhorse of a tool... I find their tools to be of excellent quality, and made for serious gardeners.

I have had two successful transactions with this company. The products are exactly as described online. The quality of the products exceeded my expectations. Their website is easy to navigate, and they have excellent comunication. Tracking numbers are provided with shipments.

If you are like me and can't seem to find that special tool or some other item that your grandmother might have had in her garden, then this is the place to find it. With Lowes and Home Deport driving out all the smaller nurseries and specialty hardware stores you just can't find many items for the serious gardener except in catalogs, at least not here in Houston anymore. Shipping has always been prompt and in 5 orders over the last two seasons they have not gotten one thing wrong yet.

The items in the catalog are consistently of high quality and come with clear instructions. Shipping is very fast and products are well packaged. Their customer service is unusually friendly, helpful, and fast. I also like the fact that, by and large, the catalog contains supplies for gardener and is not loaded up with lots of junky ornamental stuff. Their pricing runs from competitive to a bit high. My only reservation is that I have found a few products can be purchased less expensively from other catalogs. Overall, I am a very satisfied customer and this is one of the most reliable catalog gardening companies I have found.

Great selection of seed starting equipment and organic pest control. Fast, efficient ordering and delivery through their web site. Great e-mails with tracking details when a package ships and clear backorder information.

Last year I bought their seed starting trays w/wicking mats and had almost every seed germinate with no damping off. I've have ordered many items from them and always have received great service!

Great selection of artsy stuff for garden and yard. Has a good selection of misc. garden items also.
Has gotten a little high in prices lately. Their catalog has gotten away from natural products and garden solutions in the last 7-8 years.
