Comments regarding Select Seeds Antique Flowers

They let me pay with a money order. My Hollyhock plants arrived on time. They looked wonderful! This company also included detailed instructions on how to prepare the soil and take care of my plants after I transplanted them. I will go with this company again.

This is my priority company. The seed selection is right up my alley, and germination is excellent. Really enjoy their catalog, and the website is well-designed and (not to be underestimated) actually works well, consistently. My favorite.

I think Select Seeds has a great selection of plants and seeds. Germination rates seem very good and the plants I've received have done well in my garden. Last year I also ordered a small pot which I love and that was delivered in great shape too. And of course, free seeds! Got to love that.

I have ordered several times from Select Seeds Antique Flowers and have been pleased. However, since I live in the deep south it would be very helpful if they would put the zones on more of their selections. When I first ordered they did not list any by zone and they have started putting it on some. Many seeds just can't take our hot humid climate and I hate to try things that have no chance.

I love their selection and descriptive catalog. The germination rates are good, and they have specific instructions with each type of seed. When I ordered, I mentioned a problem I was having germinating one kind of seed, and they were able to tell me exactly what to do this year to get them to grow. They get my first and largest order every year.

Seeds were received quickly and they sent a very nice 'free' seed packet of Columbine. (I have a terrible time growing columbine, so getting free seeds gives me another chance at it!) Packets had clear planting instructions and description of contents. No photos, so I cut out the pictures from the catalog and taped to the back of each packet. Very happy with the experience.

I recently ordered seed from Select Seed and was a little underwhelmed. It took over two weeks after I ordered for the seed to get to me. When I wrote to the company and asked them when they had shipped my order, they told me "late last week", instead of a specific date. My experience has been that most seed companies with online ordering ship on the same day they charge your CC (Select Seed must have waited at least a week), and most automatically tell when they shipped your order. Their selection is good, but I was a little annoyed about the processing speed.

I just received my seeds today and once again I am most pleased with the speedy service and complete attention this company gives to your order. I don't know about the germination yet, but I have had good success from their seeds in the past and expect to again this year. This is one of the few companies that I feel confident from ordering flower seeds from and that also has a very nice selection to choose from. Keep up the good work!!

I ordered the "Ballerina Purple" datura seed, a Creme de Cassis hollyhock plant and some various other bedding seeds (this was last summer). The hollyhock was very healthy, and I had good germination from the seeds. I recommend them for rare plants and will order from them again.

The excellent selection (and beautiful catalogue) prompted me to purchase seeds--fast service, well packaged, and a free packet of calendula. I will order from this company again.

A great transaction.

I love growing the "old flowers" and was looking for a source of seed to supply my habit. I researched this site, found Select Seeds and requested a catalog. They put out a beautiful catalog with a really nice selection of seeds and plants and the symbols really made it easy to make my choices. I placed my order on August 27,2004 but because of Labor Day they didn't arrive until September 7,2004. The only thing left is growing them out,which I really look forward to doing. They will bring many smiles at the nursing home.

Great selection of seeds and reasonably priced for the quanity received. This company carries unusual varieties that I don't find in other catalogs.
In regards to their plants, I don't find them as high quality as other reviewers do. The prices for their annuals are equivalant to what I am used to paying for perennials. This year I ordered a climbing petunia and a "kiss me over the garden gate". Both arrived looking a bit "raggety" & I noticed a small snail in one of the plants which I immediatly distroyed. I planted both plants that same afternoon. The following morning, both were eaten to the ground. All my surrounding plants were fine so I am assuming that snail I found had friends in those plants. The petunia finally came back and is blooming nicely. The other plant never came back.
I probably will not order plants from them again. But since they also offer seeds for the most of the plants they offer, I will probably buy the seeds and see how that goes.

This was my first order from Select Seeds and I am quite pleased. The plants were well-packed, shipped on schedule and all healthy-appearing from the start. They've grown beautifully. I did order some diascia that didn't survive the trip; they were promptly replaced, but still weren't great. For unusual plants, definately order from this company.
I tried 3 new mail order nurseries this year and was very pleased with 2 of the 3. Along with Select Seeds, I'd recommend Earthly Pursuits for beautiful, strong plants and great customer service.

I started ordering from Select Seeds about 6 weeks ago, both seeds and plants, and so far am very satisfied with the results. The sweet pea plants I ordered were a bit dry but very healthy, and came three to four in each pot. Haven't planted the seeds yet, but expect them to be of as high a quality as the plants. The only gripe I can think of would be that they're a little slow in shipping the seeds, but I consider that a very minor issue. I will definitely continue to order both seeds and plants from Select Seeds.

Love their selections. Plants arrived healthy, well packed and with good instructions. Ordered seeds before and the germination rate was quite good. Would definately use them again.

I ordered foxgloves in spring 2002. The plants were huge, well-rooted, and very carefully packaged. They flourished right away, but succumbed to a harsh winter (very cold, no snow cover, too much sun on bare ground, monsoons in the spring). I ordered foxgloves from other mail order businesses the following year, but they were floppy (with the basal rosette too loosely attached to the roots) and spindly by comparison.

I have made several purchases from this company and have been pleased every time. They have a wonderful selection & their prices are reasonable.
I would recommend them highly.

I'm a seed person, so my first inclination was to place a seed order with Select Seeds - they offer a nice selection of sometimes hard-to-find seeds. When I saw they were offering Persian Shield plants (hard to find in my area), I decided to order some plants as well.

I was not disappointed with either the seeds or the plants. The plants were the best packaged I've ordered - nice and healthy, too; I got 100% germination on all their seeds that I sowed. You can't ask for better.

Plants are packaged very well. Arrive in excellent condition and the packaging material is cardboard-type material; not plastic!! My order was filled incorrectly and they took care of the problem immediately.

Select Seeds is one of the best resources for quality seeds and plants anywhere. I have purchased unique seeds from them as well as plants. The plants did arrive a bit later than most, but this was because Select Seeds made sure they were the best quality BEFORE sending.

I simply cannot believe the quality of the plants- every one is more stupendous than the other. They are flourishing on my terrace.

I especially like the fact that the Select Seeds site has great information about each seed or flower. I concentrated on fragrant varieties. I recommend that others try the same- you won't be disappointed.

I have ordered plants and seeds (mostly plants) from them the last 3 years and have been satisfied every time. Plants arrived very well packed and all have thrived. Prices are quite reasonable and you can order securely online. Recommended!

I order from several different nurseries each year, depending on plant availability. If Select Seed had every plant that I wanted, they would be the only company I would ever order from. I order plants and vines from them (I'm not a seed person!) and the quality, size, pricing, and especially the packaging are the best around. In addition, they respond quickly to e-mails and the customer service is excellent. I have never been anything less than 110% satisfied with this company. Give them a try.

As an experienced gardener who has ordered from a number of mail-order sources, I have to say that I am quite pleased with the plants I ordered this year from Select Seeds. This is the first time I've ordered from them, so I can't yet address the hardiness of the plants, but I am very impressed with the size and vigor of the plants I received - mostly annuals, they are comparable to those available from my favorite local grower, Graceful Gardens (whose superb plants I am lucky enough to be able to buy at my local Farmers' Market, but check out their website - http://www.gracefulgardens.com - for mail-order).

I was very pleased with the older "heirloom" varieties of plants & seeds available from Select Seeds; they offer a great range of fragrant sweet peas and nasturtiums, and specialize in flowers that smell good. The plants were excellently packed & shipped, arrived exactly when they said they would and in perfect condition, with clear and thorough planting & care instructions. My non-plant items were shipped separately & immediately, and were also packed with care. While their shipping charges are on the high side (and they did have a bit of confusion getting my order properly added up & billed), I am happy enough to pay their rates for such healthy & and well-started plants, and I have every reason to be optimistic about their performance in my garden. I especially look forward to growing some of the antique varieties of nasturtiums they offer that I haven't seen elsewhere!

I discoverd this company a few years ago because I'm always looking for old fashioned plants for my cottage garden. I was so impressed with the way the plants were packed that I suggested to other companies that they contact Select Seeds to find out how to do it right! In the past I had a lot of trouble with my UPS deliveries, but with this company, it didn't matter what the UPS man did to the boxes!! Not only were they packed well, but the plants were gorgeous and thrived. I just can't say enough good things about this outfit.

I did not order this year,but used up packets that I ordered last year and the year before. The seed packets are very generous. The germination rate was still very good. I especially like the old varieties that are most likely open pollinated. The Balcony Petunias climbed and were fragrant just as described in the catalog. Will order from them again.

I placed an order for several varieties of annual flower seeds, and they arrived within a week. I can't really speak to germination rates, because I tend to use the broadcast method of sowing, choosing varieties known to seed and grow generously. If something doesn't come up, it's probably my fault for being so lackadaisical about it.

Overall, I'm very pleased with their selection and service.

I especially like the unique selection of seeds from this company. I like the design on their packets too. Their seeds sprout well. Their plants "arrive alive" at your doorstep. They send you your order quickly. What more could you ask for? Select Seeds is a great company.

We love this company. Their plants are of excellent quality, arrive healthy & of good planting size and their seed prices are competitive. My only wish is for a more systematic use of Latin names. They have a nice selection of white flowered plants for creating white gardens.

Amazing shipping time. 11 days snail mail from time order was mailed until seeds arrived. Everything I ordered was enclosed. Last time I used this company I had a high germination rate from seeds. Looking forward to sowing these.

I was very pleased with the selection in the catalog. After browsing through it I jotted down some selections I was going to order--seeds, plants and bulbs. When I got to the order form I was unpleasantly surprised to find that there is a packing and handling fee for seeds, an additional packing and handling fee for plants, and yet another additional packing and handling fee for bulbs, books, etc.

So, for my order totalling about $32 the packing and handling charges totalled up to just over $16. Fifty percent handling fee is way too steep (although there are no shipping charges except possibly for seeds).

The packing and handling charges seem to be comparable to other companies if you're ordering only plants or only bulbs or only seeds (or if you place a very large order); I've yet to come across a company that charges all three for one order.

I'm tempted to negatively rank this company but don't feel it's appropriate without having ordered from them.

Very nice selection, good quantities in seed packets, reasonable (though not cheap) prices. Bonus seeds with orders are a nice touch. Highly recommend this company.

Large healthy plants (much larger than other companies) that have grown well even under drought conditions. Great packing of plants. Great old-timey selection. Definitely will order again.

FABULOUS! Best website of any seed/plant catalogue I've yet to find. Beautiful big photographs and very easy to search and navigate. Good prices, very interesting selection, and the plants I just received (spring 2002) were beautiful and packed with great care. I will be ordering much more from them in the future.
