Comments regarding Select Seeds Antique Flowers

I have ordered from Select Seeds in the past and have done so again this year. Their catalogue and website are great, informative, and easy to use. The plants I received were healthy and very well packed, they have a unique cardboard sleeve/ box which carefully protected the plants until I opened them. All of the plants performed better than average in my gardens. My orders have always shipped at approximately the date I requested. Best of all, the prices are great. All in all, I give Select Seeds two green thumbs up!

This company will definately being getting more of my business! A rep from the company called me to make sure my credit card number was correct after the transaction was refused and I got more order very quickly after that! They came in a bubble envelope instead of just a regular envelope, which is a nice touch and they included free seeds, which is a nice surprise! The seed packets have lots of usefull and pertanent info on them, printed on the front clearly. No more searching the packet for the info I need. They had the seeds I was looking for and many others that looked very entising as well. I can't wait to see how beautiful they are and order more next year!

I read the positive feedback that this company had back in spring and based on it ordered from them...well, what can I say, after seeing how healthy and nice the plants that I ordered were, I had to order again, and again. I also ordered their seeds and got a whole bunch of free ones. I can't wait to see their 2006/2007 catalog and order again...

Just recently ordered a poppy collection of seed from these folks and the service was OUTSTANDING! It took only 4 business days from the day I oredered before I had the seeds in my hand. The packaging was terrific...shipped in a thick bubble envelope, then inside that another envelope, then inside that the seed packet envelopes.
I was at first a bit disappointed because the one particular seed I really wanted the most in the collection was substituted for another type. I knew this was a hot ticket item and worried that may happen. It stated in the catalogue that substitutions may be made. I called them over the July 4th holiday and left a message concerning this. July 5th they called and left a very long detailed message on my answering machine. The seed had sold out (I knew they sold out the year before also). They were very apologetic and simply explained that they were sold out. They even gave me credit for that seed so that when they once again have it I will get it free, including postage. WOW! Talk about going above and beyond...too bad more companies aren't as serious about doing good business like this company. Honestly, they had no obligation to do anything other than what they had already done. They also included the "free seeds with every order" just like they promised, and they were another poppy variety also. Very nice!
It sure is nice to know that there are still companies out there that place a high value on customer satisfaction.

Nice selection of seed and plants. Placed several orders with them & always satisfied with plant delievery and customer service, when something isn't right they fixed the problem. Aloso answered emails that were sent unlike some other companies. Plus they send" free" seed with the order.

I've ordered several times from Select Seeds and have been either happy or really happy with their plants. I have a 8ft tall Brugmansia that is 3 years old, and was only a large seedling when I got it. Only one plant died shortly after I got it early last month. I called them last week to see if they could replace it, and I just received it yesterday-4 x bigger than the original.

They have quality uncommon plants at a reasonable price, and are very nice to deal with. Definitely one of the best!

I placed two orders with this company. The first came in two shipments - seeds in the mail and plants (again) USPS. In my area the USPS is the WORST way to get anything delivered. When the seeds shipped I was billed on my credit card the FULL amount of shipping for seeds and plants. I had picked ship dates (as they offered on the site) and after waiting an additional week, beyond receipt of the seeds, and ship date, still not getting my my plants I placed a call to see where the stuff was. I was then informed the plants were not large enough to be shipped. Ok, so why did I have to phone them to get this info? They had both an e-mail address and my phone number. A delay on their part, I expect them to contact me.
I did get my plants then three days after placing a phone call. The box was clearly marked with an 'up arrow' that my wonderful (NOT) mail carrier let on the patio (in the full sun) upside down!

Second order; They do indeed have a lot of unique plants. So, I decided the first time around was a series of flukes. Had to be as they had NO negatives on this site. Well, I was wrong in that assumption. I was again billed an amount on my credit card - yes I check my activity each day on the card. So I waited and waited (again one assumes you are billed something has shipped, right?) I got tired of waiting for the arrival of something after 6 days and again phoned them. I was told that two of the collections I wanted were 'sold out' and it must have happened as I placed my order, thus the order went thru. Sounded odd to me, but what I do know about their computer system. I was told the third collection was going to be shipped yet that day. Yes, the very day I had called! The collection did ship and the plants were not in very good shape at all! Two were very tattered as if they had been in a wind storm. The others not as bad but not the best.
As I looked at my invoice I noted I was overcharged shipping by $8.00!! And as someone else noted their shipping is not cheap in the first place. By now I had more then enough and did again phone to ask about the over charge and too complained about the two tattered plants. They did (very promptly) credit me the $8.00 and a reasonable amount for the two plants and a shipping allowance for those plants.

I am not sure if I will order from them again or not. The experience was not good at all. I am not used to having to watchdog or babysit my orders. I do not care for the DHL to the USPS method of shipping either. It may be more my area, but all in all, the USPS delivers the worst crushed boxes!! On the other hand they DO have some very unique plants to offer!

Since the matter was resolved I will post a neutral comment vs negative. But it more negative then neutral - as I did give them two chances with two different orders.

Out of all the companies I've ordered through this one is the best. The plant diversity was amazing and the ones I ordered were leaps and bounds ahead of all others in terms of size and vigor. I am anticipating doing all of my garden ordering through them next year.

This is a very good seed dealer. I received my order when they said I would, and all types of seed I ordered had good germination rates. They also included a free packet of seeds (a nice Standing Cypress). Their selection is broad and the plants they offer are interesting and beautiful.

i placed two plant orders and a seed order with them. they were my first. i rec'd both plant orders shipped together today and the seed order was send approx 8 weeks ago.

the plants were packaged very nicely but were what i view as small, however appear extremely healthy.

on the otherhand the seeds germination rate was approx 99% which i think is excellent.

My little viola and violet plants arrived packaged most securely and in perfect condition. Lovely healthy plants! My seeds arrived a few days later and included was a pack of free seeds- very nice! I was very happy to have found this website and all the great mail order sources that a gardener can rely on for quality plants and seeds. Select Seeds will definitely be a source I use for future planting needs.

I've ordered seeds several times and have always been pleased with my order. They have a great variety of plants and seeds, generous seed packages with essential info printed on it, and a free, beautiful catalog to daydream and plan with LOL! I plan to place my first order for plants in the near future.

have ordered live plants from them 2 years in a row, all came healthy and ready for planting. Plus, they deliver at best times for your zone.

Good customer service, they called to let me know that one of the plants I had ordered hadn'r grown as well as they hoped so they offered me another variety.

I have also ordered seeds from them and those have done well too.

After my last year’s disappointed experience of Bluestone Perennials plants, I was skeptical about ordering plants online (FYI, none of my plants from Bluestone grows back this year except the grass). So, I only placed my first, small order with Select Seeds on the first week of April. The package arrived on the week of April, 16 as expected. The plants were well packed and arrived in healthy condition and in good sizes. I did not plant until a week later. There was no bud when I received the plants. It is now the second week of May—less than a month after planted, my plants have buds. The customer service was excellent. They promptly responded to my email and answered any questions I had. I will definitely buy from this vendor again.

I received the 53 plants I ordered from Select Seeds about 2 weeks ago. They were all large healthy plants securely packed and are now doing very well in the ground. I got them the week that I requested that they be shipped. And the price was very reasonable--it averaged out as around $5.00 per plant including shipping. Gardening by mail doesn't get any better than this!

Other mail order companies should learn from Select Seeds with regards to packaging. I recently received a large order with all plants intact and in good shape. The same day I had received an order from a different company and the order was a mess - broke and bent plants - dirt everywhere and the added bonus of some type of flying critters!

I ordered from Select Seeds a couple of years ago and I was delighted with the packaging and prompt service. I will definitely buy from them again this year. They have excellent high-quality seeds and many varieties that are hard to find elswhere. I also love their catalog, which is profusely illustrated with accurate, undoctored photographs and chock-full of information and neighborly anecdotes.

I just received my order today from Select Seeds. This is my second year ordering from this company and I was just as delighted today as last year. I ordered only plants this year and they arrived in great shape: healthy and strong having been beautifully packaged. Their catalogue offers unique items such as a white gas plant, which is hard to come by. My last one ordered several years ago from another company died almost immediately. These from Select Seed look very healthy! A wonderful company!

This was my FIRST experience not only ordering online, but ordering from Select Seeds...After checking out their website, and drooling over their catalog, I ordered 12 Fragrant Heliotrope plants.
My order came at the proper planting time, and the plants were nested in cardboard, the cardboard cleverly held each of the 4" pots' soil, whilst wrapping around and protecting the stem of each plant.
The plants are the chubby, deep green, and look very healthy. Upon planting them, I found the root system was well developed, not potbound, or non-exisitant.
I now feel confident to order MORE from them.

I just received 6 Manettia, Firecracker Vines. They are in beautiful shape, very healthy. One actually has a flower. As in all my dealings with Select Seeds to date, I am very pleased.

I have ordered seeds on several different occasions from Select Seeds, and have always been happy with the speed of delivery and germination of my seeds. They have a great catalog and website (very easy to navigate). They have a wide selection of unique and interesting plants.

This is an excellent catalog for heirloom flower seeds and plants. My only real problem with it is that so many of the options sound so tempting that I order way too many seeds and find myself surrounded by flats in the spring. I've mostly ordered seeds from Select Seeds, which are of excellent quality and variety. I have ordered a few plants: the plants themselves were well cared-for and strong but the packaging wasn't ideal, and was falling apart in the box, exposing the rootballs. This was two years ago, however, so I wouldn't be surprised if they've already addressed this problem. I recommend Select Seeds highly.

I've purchased from Select Seeds for a couple of years. They have some unique varieties. The web site was easy to navigate and my order arrived very quickly. They also send a free pack of seed. I will order from them again.

I recently needed to contact Select Seeds about an underfilled seed packet. They responded courteously and quickly and had the replacement seeds to me in no time at all (and with another packet of free seeds included!)

They sell quality seeds in generous quantities at a fair price, and now I know that their customer service is wonderful as well!

I ordered seeds from 'Select Seeds' on January 4th. I never received confirmation for my order. When I called the first time there was no record of the order so I left my number. Someone called and left a message that they had found my order. I never received an email confirmation and when the seeds still hadn't shown up on the 12th I called and they said my seeds were being shipped that day. I still had not recieved my order on the 24th so I called again. They said they would re-ship my order and that I should mark 'refused' on the package if the original order ever came. I ordered seed from three other companies the same day I ordered from Select seeds and most of them have already sprouted. All three of the other companies have sent email confirmations as well as times the orders were shipped etc. To this day I have no seeds and no email confirmation and it's almost been a month.

Online catalogue is incredibly user friendly. Both reviewing the plant characteristics and ordering is quick and efficient. Kudos to their webmaster.

Everything I have ordered from Select Seeds has been terrific. I have purchased both seeds and plants, and the quality has been outstanding. If you ever want a fantastic plant, buy their polyganum orientale variegata (Kiss-Me-Over-The-Garden Gate), available in both seed and plant form. Gets to be about 8 feet tall by summer's end, with gorgeous variegated green and white leaves and red ruffled stems, topped by another 2 feet of pink flower plumes. Truly fabulous!

Viable, unusual, and highly appealing seeds.

Little baby plants that (I warn you) are garden-bent on becoming big, healthy plants equipped with warpspeed.

Try their Passiflora 'Lady Margaret' if you can; she's a pot-lover who will (no joke) not stop blooming after her first flower.

I am counting the days until they send out their December Catalogue. I don't know if I can manage until then!

We are lucky enough to live just a few miles from Select Seeds, so we pick up our plant order in person each spring. We organize the plant selections for our pots by pasting the catalogue photos into pleasing groups. Never have we been disappointed! By far, theirs are the healthiest plants in our garden. Greatest compliments to this company.

I have ordered from them for two years and my plants always come packaged well and do wonderful in my garden. I did order seeds of Dianthus superbus and when they flowered they were dark pink and stood out in my "white garden". However, I will continue to order from them because I considered it one of Mother Nature's little jokes and am otherwise satisfied with them.

I ordered clematis, columbines, foxglove, hollyhock, obedient plant, phlox and Moonflower (my mistake, didn't read the hardiness zone info). The packaging was similar to and almost as good as Whiteflower Farm (an in-state rival?), but the prices are significantly lower than Whiteflower. Everything arrived in great shape and everything has been in the ground for 2-3 weeks and growing well. Even the moonflower is doing well (which I guess I'll consider an annual here in zone 6). Highly recommended.

I ordered a torenia (amethyst) from them at first I thought it was a little small but it perked up almost over night.It has been blooming like crazy and has grown quickly.

Just received 2 very healthy, good-looking clematis; they got to me within one week of the order, great shipping protection-

Excellent plants and good protective, moisture-holding packaging; everything came through in good condition, although unpacking is very time-consuming and there's quite a mess to clean up afterward.

I think I got bacopa from them a couple of years ago, but it's no longer in the catalogue and I can't find it anywhere else ... it seems like they have cut down their plant selection over the last two years which is a shame. Still I'm very happy with the quality of their plants and seeds and would recommend this nursery without reservation.
