Comments regarding Select Seeds Antique Flowers

Ordered for the first time from this company 2011. The seeds germinated quickly and grew beautifully. While friends has issues with their flowers because of weather mine stayed strong and everyone who saw them asked where I got them. Excited to order from them again in 2012!

First time I've ordered from them. Ordered plants, not seeds. Their plants put the other company I ordered annuals from to shame. They are now on my list of favorite garden resources.

Received 5 heirloom tomato plants from Select Seeds. The plants arrived in perfect condition - they were large and healthy. Planted them in the garden and they are doing beautifully. Am expecting a wonderful tomato harvest this year. Thank you Select Seeds - you never disappoint me.

Ordered a clematis and a passionflower. They arrived promptly, were well packaged, and had good instructions on how to plant them. Also came with a coupon for 20% off my next order. Much appreciated.

I like this company. Out of the blue I received a catalogue about three years ago, and placed a small order. I've done so every year since. They have a unique selection of seeds and plants, some varieties which I've not found anywhere else. Their offerings are grouped in helpful ways in their catalogue (fragrant varieties, varieties for nighttime blooms, etc.).

This year I ordered plants as well as seeds. The seeds arrived very quickly, and the plants were delivered in perfect accordance with the date I requested. The delphinium plant was on the small side though very healthy looking, but the brugmansia, pansy-faced geranium, and tuberrose were all of a good size, and extremely well packed. No breakage, no sick leaves, just perfect specimens. The seeds I ordered from them had great germination rates as well.

A very pleasant experience all around.

Have always ordered seeds from this company. This time I ordered 30 hollyhock" Mars" and they arrived expertly packed and were a good 15 inches tall. Fantastic!

This was my first time ordering from Select Seeds, and it was out of desperation as the normal companies I order from were out of the annuals and herbs I had been wanting very much. Even though I ordered later into the growing season (after my early Jan. orders had already been shipped) they still had everything in stock and it was processed and mailed in just over a week. Germination rates have been excellent, and the seedlings look beautiful and are now just waiting for the danger of frost to pass. There are a few more varieties that are waiting to be direct-sown and I'm looking forward to seeing how they fare, though I honestly have no worries.

I will be going to them first next year, rather than last! They have an amazing selection and I'm hoping to experiment with even more of the varieties they carry. It was very hard this year to stick to a small list since all the other shopping had been done and there was very little room left in both my seed room and the garden - next year I'm making my grow list from their seed offerings first!

Received my first order from Select Seeds and I'm completely thrilled. The plants were packed perfectly so that the soil and plant remained in the pot. Each plant was protected and even though one plant lost two leaves, it and the others were so large those leaves won't be missed. I'll definitely be ordering again!

Ordered plants in January to be delivered in April. They arrived right on time. The plants are all healthy, well rooted and undamaged -- they even sent along quite a good bit of planting information. Excellent!

I have ordered seeds from them for many years and been very happy. This is the first year I ordered plants. These are fabulous. They arrived very quickly (mailed 4/3 arrived 4/6) and are so healthy and beautiful. very good communication. Great website. This is a very good company to do business with.

Placed a small order in February for flower seeds, including Rainmaster petunia, because I understand it is still one of the last fragrant petunias. Planted the seeds right away and have had excellent germination. To me, germination is the best test of a seed company. Will order from Select Seeds again.

Boohoo for badger1.I literally receive 2-8 catalogs a day.Some gardening co.'s send weekly.With the shortage of paper,the throw-away society we live in causing untold damage to come,I would think that just once you could use your computer to order.I really think the intermet-webpages-webmasters, etc.,has a much larger learning curve than we think.I can't even keep up with the newest downloads required for my laptop. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for a huge nursery to keep up.They want
to send beauty to the public.I worked w/ the public for 30 yrs., and in the last 5 I saw people that just literally want the impossible.People expect more than they are willing to give in a lot of cases.The internet is the biggest thing man has built that mankind does not understand, it is the most far reaching experiment in anarchy the world has ever seen.

This is the kind of gardening business I love: flowers, scented flowers, heirloom flowers. My primary go-to when I start shopping for seeds. Or it was. For the last 2 years, I haven't got a catalog. Last year I had to go to them and request a catalog. My understanding is that when you order from a company, you are added to their mailing list and kept on if you continue to order. If you lapse, they give you at least one season of catalog before they drop you. Anyway, I have ordered from them but couldn't last year because...? Well, if you're starting seeds, you need to get them before March or April. My 2010 catalog which I had to ask for is post marked April 27th. So I couldn't buy seeds from them (in my zone, 4, you need to start early). This year I'm rummaging about looking at all my catalogs and realize that once again, I have no current Select Seeds catalog. I go to their website to request one and see that they've already mailed out their 2011 catalogs. They are now "taking orders" for their 2012 one. Well, sorry, but I'm not about to "order" their catalog every year. I figure it's a courtesy to the customer to send them the catalog, especially if it's a customer who's ordered before!

I love their flowers, I love their catalog, I love how they describe their merchandise but I will no longer order from them. This is just too bothersome. And there are lots of other companies out there who carry nice scented heirloom flowers who don't require a yearly request of their catalog.

I ordered plants from Select Seeds this year. Wow! The plants arrived hale and hearty and by far they utilized the most secure packaging I have ever seen. There was nary a leaf out of place, not even a leaf buffeted or broken. The plants were good sized without being pot-bound. I am very happy and will feel secure ordering plants again. I had success with their seeds last year, so I feel all around this is a good company to deal with.

Random cat. came in 2008; photo & price perfect. (Along w/scores of other cats. that all gardeners rec.) I was #1 grateful that they were from NE where I'm some north of them. So a tidy order came well pkged right date; all plants growing like "weeds". 09, a bigger order, same in 2010. More for 2011; I'm so excited. No wonder they are listed 5th in Dave's Garden. '09, got 6 of the most healthy but tiny yellow hollyhocks, that bloomed as 6 ft. queens for wks. in 2010, guaranteed no rusty bottoms; and they don't have. (2 planted in the wrong place & knowing they have tap roots to China, I'm in a fit about what to do. (Select seeds for all is the way to go!!) ckl from VT.

The Hollyhock plants that I ordered and received in April are healthy and growing well.

Ordered a few plants from them. They were priced very well and they were nice and healthy. Packaging was great.

Ordered first time in 2009. Loved the selections and great shipping price. Fast, excellent service. Had problem with nicotiana seeds (about 300/per packet as opposed to 1K listed in catalog) and received another packet of seeds promptly. This seems to be an industry-wide problem, mostly with very tiny seeds; either it is a problem in Holland or the estimated seed counts by weight are off. Have planted leftover seeds this spring; great germination rates, especially on sweet peas. Highly recommend Select Seeds..

Had a really hard time finding a plant I wanted and Select Seeds had it listed on Dave's Garden. This was my first order with them and I was totally impressed. Plants were delivered exactly when I wanted and they were packed so well. Will definately buy from them again.

Wow - just did first order with this company - mix of seeds and live plants. Rec'd the seeds within days and packets contain very detailed planting instructions. For the plants, was asked to pick the week I wanted them shipped. I selected Apr 5th and rec'd plants on Friday of that week. Just like clockwork.

And the packaging on the plants was terrific - each in an individual cardboard holder with another piece of cardboard keeping the dirt intact. The plants are beautiful with many already flowering. No damage in transit - no damage period - these are terrific, healthy, and robust plants.

Will absolutely order from these folks again.

Fun selection of cultivars ( for seeds); order came promptly and 2 of the 6 types of seeds I ordered came up nicely.

I received my order promptly, together with a surprise free packet of seeds. All the seed packets come with very detailed sowing instructions, and the ones I planted had a very high germination rate. I'm very happy with this company, I'm looking forward to receiving their catalog!!

Seeds ordered January 22nd, all received January 29th.
Will report back in late spring on germination.
This has been a good year for me, seeds ordered from 10 companies and everything now received.

I was happy to place my order again with Select this week. I tried them for the first time last year since I put up my greenhouse and wanted to try out other varieties. I'm amazed at the fact you can get 1100 seeds compared to 25 - 30 from other companies. All of the seeds germinated and grew as well if not better than from other companies. They came right on time and were well packaged. I love the fact that they have heirloom varieties.

I ordered from Select Seeds last spring and was extremely happy with the results. I had an excellent germination rate for all plants sown indoors. (While I did not do well with those direct sown, I think it had more to do with the weather! ) The plants I started all bloomed well and true to type, except the moonflower, which I think may have been in too rich of a soil - lots of leaves but few blossoms, not their fault! The flowers did well in the conditions they outlined, and thrilled me with their vigor, in spots I've heretofore had difficulties filling satisfactorily. The 'Cappuccino' daisy, 'Blue Horizon' ageratum, and red "tassel flower" were especially pleasing, and I had many positive comments on the 'Cranberry Isle' flowering tobacco, which gave me so many healthy seedlings I was passing them around to other family members! The one perennial I started, a white heliotrope / valerian also gave me more healthy starts than I expected, so I spotted them all around the yard, and look forward to seeing them bloom this year! I will definitely order from them again, and give my full recommendation as a great source for interesting flower seed. I did not order any potted plants, given my limited budget; if I had one wish, it would be that more of those were also available through seed in the future.

I ordered five packets of various flower seeds recently, including a couple of different poppies and some sweet peas. I received the seeds a week later, and the company even included a free packet of seeds that were similar in color and form to the ones I had ordered! I am happy so far, and will post back after I have gotten some flowers!

I have ordered seeds twice from this company, and this spring also ordered a plant and glad bulbs. When I received my order, the seeds were fine (germinated well, and are blooming profusely). However, I was disappointed in the plant, which had significant breakage, and the glad bulbs were terrible -- tiny, hard little acorns! I called and was treated very respectfully by the customer service representative, and was immediately issued a refund. I planted everything anyway (nothing to lose at this point) thinking that the glads would probably not bloom, but might grow enough to bloom next year. I was astonished a few days ago to discover the glads, which are now about 4 feet tall, ALL blooming beautifully. I am so pleased with this company, I will never hesitate to order from them, and am already planning for next spring.

I ordered 3 fuchsias and they arrived in beautiful condition. One already had a couple of blooms. The packaging was great. I am very pleased with my order and will order again in the future.

I've ordered from them for several years. The plants always arrive exactly when I request and in great condition. They are small but once planted grow like weeds. I am completely satisfied with all of my transactions with this company.

i ordered Lantana 'Samantha' and they arrived in perfect condition at the proper time for my zone. this one is supposed to be a fairly slow starter but mine have really started to put on growth in the past couple of weeks and are now blooming. i will order from this company again.

This year was the first time I have ordered from Select Seeds. Ordered three Rainmaster petunias a few months ago to be shipped at the end of April. Right on queue they arrived yesterday as green and healthy as ever. These people really having the packaging down, not an ounce of soil was lost, not one broken leaf, and the plants were as large or larger than what I could have purchased locally. They even have flower buds forming! I'm dreaming of warm summer nights sitting on my patio revelling in the intoxicating sweet scent of these wonderful old fashioned petunias. I recieved a number of plants from them and all of them were in great shape. One of the Brugmansia (Inca Sun) even had a flower bud on it.

I received my order today and could not be happier! The plants were healthy, in perfect condition and packaged so well that not a leaf was damaged or out of place. And less than a teaspoon of potting soil had been spilled. I. will definitely order from Select Seeds again
