Lily Pictures Part 2

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks for all the information Tracey. Do you have a favorite potting soil for the ones in pots?

Here is one that I've grown as an unknown for a few years, but with lilyfans help, I think it is now correctly ID'ed as Royal Highness.

Lincolnitess, I really like your "Midnight". Where did you purchase it?

Thanks for answering my enquiry.

A'oh, the lilies are calling to my wallet...

Always experimenting with lilies and potting mixes. I really like mixing about 1/2 of a product called Fox Farm Ocean Forest Potting Mix with 1/2 coir mix that I use to start my lilies from seed. The coir mix has excellent drainage qualities and the Fox farm gives some nutrients . Together they work nicely. I've even used it on baby bulbs now. So far so good. You might know that I never find the easy answer ;)

'King Kong' in a vase is just elegant! Love it.

Lincoln, is 'Midnight' darker? Could it be 'Summer Palace'? I have neither, but know of both. It's very nice whoever it is.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Awwwwwww (*drooling*)

I always hear compliments about the gorgeous native flowers of Chile, but let me tell you that your native Liliums are ...... out of this world.

I wished they were sold here.

Hugs to all Lily-Lovers,

My Midnight? came from a 2004 co-op. Can't remember the vendor. the photo showed a much darker purple color. I like this one, but think it probably isn't the real Midnight.

Thanks for the information on the potting soil Tracey. I am expermimenting with some lily bulbs in pots this winter. I put 3 in a large pot and put them near the foundation of the house. They were some not so pretty yellow and red ones that I recevied as a bonus. Winters here have become milder the last few years and I'm hoping that with the warmth from the house they may make it, but won't feel bad is they don't. I think we are more like zone 6 here in Lincoln that zone 5 anymore.

These are my babies that I planted from baby bulbs this spring. These are offspring of potted Madonnas that I had brought home from work the year before. I ended up with something like a hundred babies when I moved them this spring, they were all about the size of my thumbnail up to maybe golfball size and bloomed. The really tiny ones went into a pot, spent the summer in the garden, ended up getting frozen cause I didn't get to them fast enough and are now sitting in the fridge in the garage until I can pot them up. You'll never believe how just these perfumed the garden. Can't wait to see them next year.

I evidently dropped this bulb while I was planting the year before and didn't realize it. Last spring I found it while planting other lilies and it had rooted itself on top of the ground. Seriously, it was growing on top of the ground! Just look at this monster!

what do you guys think of the American Series? Are they pretty durable? They are so pretty.

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Since most of the ones I have are already shown as individual flowers on these posts, how about if I post a couple of "group" shots.....

OOOO! Goldfinch! To me that's just what a garden should look like. It looks just like I imagine the Garden of Eden looked. Oh! it is so breathtakingly beautiful!

So pretty and fully loaded with bloom. Your weed-free look has me in envy ;)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

The American ones have done very well for me. I divided up American Dream last fall and hope to have a nice clump of them this year.

Yehudith, that monster bulb must have been a very hardy one to make it through the winter on the ground. Do you know what it is?

goldfinch4, that shot of Conca d'Or is one of my all time favorite garden shots. Looks so perfect.

Here's Leslie Woodruff, another one that has done very well for me.

I like Landini in front of this barberry shrub. Last fall, I planted some Brushmark lilies nearby that I'm hoping will bloom at the same time.

That will be pretty Susan.

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Yehudith, I like that - Garden of Eden! I guess it is my own little Eden. Thank you!

Magnolia, believe me, there are weeds in there. One advantage of having crowded gardens is that (hopefully) the flowers choke most of the weeds out.

Lincolnitess I think that is my favorite picture of any of my gardens too. Conca d'Or is definitely one of my favorite lilies. I like your Landini/barberry combo. Very pretty!

What a breath of fresh air your pics are this time of year. Good combinations, just beautiful. Thanks.

Moby, the blue butterfly delphiniums readily reseed all over my garden. I love em because they bloom for so long and the color really seems to go with everything. And they're a true blue, not purple that is just called blue. Your garden is so full - very nice!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks, but that pic was taken from the short end of a really long garden. It is only 2 years old and in dire need of some 'character'. It takes time but it will come.
I'm looking into some of those delph seeds!

This is what it really looks like ~

Moby, That looks pretty darn good to me, short or long end. :)

Goldfinch, did you start your delphiniums from seed?

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Moby, hard to believe your garden is only 2 years old. I think it already looks great!

Ticker, I bought one plant years ago and it reseeded itself. They are blooming maniacs and sometimes literally bloom themselves to death in one year. But I saved the seeds for a few years and now have tons of em.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Blue would look lovely mixed in, IMHO but blue is my favorite color.
I have a picture of a few things that are blue that I use in my garden.

GF ~ the majority of that garden was moved from my old house. It's not all new. ;)

I've started a thread for other plants that grow along with our lilies

pixie ~ come over here and tell me all about your blue flowers!

Loving the show everybody! Making me ache for spring!

Ramona, 'Black Eyed Cindy' is special! As far as Asiatics are concerned, I've turned my focus to all those with pendulous blooms with recurved petals. Love the effect in the garden with other plants.

Goldfinch, your gardens are sooo gorgeous! And the pic in post:

....is absolute perfection! Such harmonious use of color too!
