Sept. Daily Weather, Part III What's happening in your yard?

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

No electricity for over a week. That's what I call a major bummer.

The different colors are caused by different microorganisms that live in the water. Different species live at different temperatures and pH. Collectively, they are known as thermophiles. Most are bacteria. One species that lives in a geyser basin is used in DNA analysis.

Kelli, your pics are amasing! I can see how much you have enjoyed your new camera ! Your favorite pic seems from another planet, so beautiful!
Kiska, what a gorgeous rainbow and amasing view ! Is this the same grandaughter who took another great pic a few month ago? She sure takes this from her grandma !
Marylyn, you poor thing...I'm so sorry you are going through this ...I hope the electricity comes back soon!
Sally, I just love your garden ! And the apples are looking so yummy! Do you have many apple trees?
Celia, poor Monty, you discovered him!LOL
Marsue, thanks for teh wonderful pics! I love your coneflower and the butterfly!
Sharon, the little bird looks so cute...and a woodpecker too? How is Gary?
It's getting windy again and cold...I have to make a cottage for the puppies outside the yard so they won't be coming in Buck's cottage !LOL They are about 5 inside now...help! This is from a few days ago when it was sunny and warm.
Have a wonderful day everyone !

It was 62* when I got up this morning and it's still is! WooooHoooo LOL! This is the kind of weather my menopausal body loves!

Marsue – Thank you for naming the bird! I thought it had a chickadee look, but couldn’t figure it out.
Sally – Sorta glad we don’t have the aerial spiders you have LOL! I like what your Dh did to the weather vane.
Marylyn – I hate that you still don’t have electricity. So glad you have somewhere to go to get chores taken care of. Is there a new eta on the electricity?
Kelli – I have to say your favorite picture is mine too : ) It’s gorgeous!
Adina – Chuckling at your picture! Gary is ok, ran a fever last night, but nothing too bad. We’re all looking forward to the day we don’t have to go through this anymore.

Un, Kelli, if memory serves me correctly, the water in those pools at Yellowstone is hot enough to melt the skin off your bones! No, I don't even "almost" want to get in! LOL Your favorite picture almost looks like the ground is covered with snow but I know better. Maybe I should say it looks like a moonscape, except for the water!
Ah, Sharon, a tree frog! I hope you warned Kiska! LOL
Pepper, you seem to be having a perfect weather day every day! Who could ask for more? :o))
Celia: do the neighbor's apples fall into your yard so you can enjoy them, too?
edited to add: Adina, I forgot to say that the puppies are precious and they are doing what puppies do best: sleeping in the sunshine! LOL
It's almost a perfect day here although just a bit warm. Currently 84º and plenty of sunshine.

Kiska: watch out!--Toad alert!

Mau, the apples do indeed fall into our yard! However, they are not edible for humans as they have never been sprayed for bugs. LOTS of worms in them! LOL The birds can have them. Same with the cherry tree on the other side. Cute little toad. We've tried naming the critters that come into our yard. They usually get a different name every time. Does he have a name?

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Uh, no, Celia, I never even thought about naming him---mmmm, wasn't there a toad in a movie once upon a time? Can't think of what his name was--oh, yes--It was Mr. Toad! LOL (a children's video that my DGD had when she was small--Thumbelina, I think.)

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

Celia – That’s a cute little goldfinch! Do you have many? I call all American Anoles Jack, Cuban Anoles are Juan and squirrels are Fred or Freddie (girl).
Marsue – I have toads too! I love frogs, they eat bugs and the only defense mechanism they have is that bad taste they give off when something tries to eat one. No poison and they don’t bite.
Kelli – That’s way too hot for September, well for anytime on my calendar!

Adina - my gosh your pups look great, I'd make them a cottage, too!

We are doing autumn things. Put a new floor on the front porch and steps - materials $247.00. Luckily my son did the finish carpenter work. Gosh Used to buy 6X10"s for about
$5.00 bucks a piece, now they are 9.75. LOL (And don't forget they are only 5+ inches wide). Lovely weather for working. Temps under cloudy skies were in the 60=70 deg. range with a stiff breeze.

We are supposed to get rain ( they say) Thursday, Friday and Saturday from a storm off the NE coast. We certainly can use. it. I will believe it when I feel it falling from the sky. Our current cool temps have allowed me to do several wheelbarrow loads a day of weeding, debriding and plant removal - so I'm a happy camper. Look on the bright side!!!

(Zone 7a)

Golly, Kelli! Those pics are just fabulous! Keep 'em coming! LOL

Seeds...Materials for porch and steps...$247. A perfect day to build? Priceless!

Amelia Island, FL(Zone 9a)

Kelli – The falls are beautiful! You really got some great pictures from your trip :)
Se_eds – Hoping you get that much needed rain! Sounds like you are having a great time in the garden. I really enjoy it too when the temps drop.

63° here now after a low about 55°.
Very low humidity at 46%.... low for this time of morning.
We haven't seen rain in weeks.
80° and clear forecast..... May be rain by next Tuesday.........

The pictures are TOPS Kelli!

Sharon I'm glad the GF's are making their way South!
We still have tons of them up here.... actually quite a few winter over in our area.

Busy this week getting caught up on missed days due to the Wind Storm Ike.
But I am taking a 3 day weekend.
Tomorrow is our ORVG Fall RU at Joycet's.
These Fall RU's are always low key events.
More Picnic than Plants oriented.
As we have many VERY talented chefs in the group it's always a good eats time.
Dovey's DH in fact won the national Spam Cookoff... he's always good for exceptional tidbits!

Well off to Lowes!

Kiska: as Sharon says: that is a "scary" sign!
Kelli: more great pics! I see the "skinny" tree.
Sharon: GF's and Lady Margaret--a nice combo!
Ric: an RU--what fun! Mid-South is having ours in a couple of weeks. I didn't know there was such a thing as a national Spam cook-off. My DH would love it! (Personally, I can't stand the stuff and there is NO WAY that one could cook it and make me like it--LOL)
Se_eds: a new porch--how nice! It seems that everything is more expensive these days. Hope you get some rain.
Celia: Neat bird pics. Way to go, starlings!

36°F~ icy deck; took me by surprise as I stepped out in the darkness earlier this morning. There were some stars to be seen among the clouds and was beautiful.
Should get up in the high 40's and perhaps, even 50, so the deck will dry out.
kelli~beautiful falls; scenery.
ric~have a great time at the RU.
MySharona~the butterflies/flowers look so pretty and bright.

Been raining here all day - wish I could send some of it to those of you who need it.

It got downright cold in the "la-casa-apartment" last night so I broke down and bought an oil filled space heater today. Now if I can figure out how to run it without kicking the breakers off we will be more comfortable. I guess I can turn everything else off and just run the heater? Not until my dinner is finished cooking on the hot plate!

Hi Ric! – Love the toad! I had a big one on the sidewalk this morning - think he hopped out of the impatiens. Have fun at the RU :)
Celia – Ummm, not sure on Gary, depends on the tumor marker numbers. He is having a blood transfusion tomorrow, no platelets, will take 10 hours.
Marsue – You know I love Don Juan LOL!
Kiska – I envy you your views. They are just beautiful.
Dyson – Some rain would be nice here, starting to get a little crunchy in the lawn. Keep warm and full!
Kelli – I’ll pass on the heat though LOL! We are finally past the worst part hopefully. It has been known to get into the upper 80's at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hoping they will both be cool/cold this year.
