Lovely, just lovely! :)

I got 'Sans Souci' at B&D but it's not available this year I guess. Not sure who else carries it but someone must!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

B & D stopped selling all the Strahm varieties a couple of years ago, 'San Souci' being one of them. It is doubtful you'll ever see that one there again.

But you are in luck, Buggy Crazy has sold 'San Souci' the last few years and I see she has it in inventory this year as well.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow.....for a minute I thought you were going to say they can't be found anymore period! I started to sweat! LOL

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I looke around for quite a while and didn't really see any Journey's End anywhere. I found a place called http://www.lilyseed.com that had seeds from crosses with JE for sale (most 20 seeds for $4--JE x Tiger Woods, JE x Sumatra, JE x Red Jamboree and Dizzy x JE). Their fall bulb catalog notes that it is under construction so I'm hoping I see it there. There were a bunch of neat looking seed crosses there (other lily types as well) but I don't have a clue what to do with lily seeds:)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I found that too...I thought JE X TW might be cool. Don't need 20 seeds though and almost another $4 for shipping...a little steep.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I guess if other stuff was ordered too then the S&H would even out but for one pack--a bit pricey:)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

'Journey's End' hasn't been widely available, that I know of, for quite some time. Your best luck might be with a lily society sale, because you never really know what might turn up in those.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I just joined the PNWLS a couple of months ago for 2 years so hopefully I'll be able to snag one or two through a sale:)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Journey's End was offered by the PNWLS in their fall 2006 sale. That is the only time I have seen it for sale. The descripton states that the Lily Garden propagated just enough to offer to the regionals' sales. I hope they offer it again someday. In the meantime, maybe I will dig mine up tis fall and scale it since it is a rare one.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Well dang....

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

I found a wholesaler who had it last year in a retail packed collection.

Here is the link to the pdf catalog: Page 15 #RL205
48/2pack bags for $121.92 -- too late for ordering even if they were offering it again this year.

Wonder why they are so hard to find? Seems like if they were that awesome they would be highly marketable:lol:

Think we will have to let that one go unless we make a trade for one!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Maybe if you contacted them they might have them this fall??

St. Thomas, ON

S-W gardens in Ontario has it listed on its site, however on one of my trips down there ( they are only an hour away) I asked about if they were selling any journeys end and the owner said it would not be for sale because she thought that it wasn't correctly labeled and what they had was not journeys end. So i was disappointed as i really wanted that one, so i am still looking. Actually another side note they have scaled Susan Elizabeth (A hybrid created by Charlie Kroell, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the ORLS show) a picture of Susan Elizabeth can be found in the 2001 NALS yearbook, so i am excited for them to be selling this in a couple years. As well S-W bought a lot stock from the lily garden which is exciting because it will be easier to get my hands on some of Judith Freeman's hybrids.
Sorry kind of got off topic, here is a link for a pic. of Susan Elizabeth

I am researching Journey's End and trying to find a photo that is known to be true.

'Rose Sonnet' is putting on a good show this year. I'm really liking it and it's only it's second year here!

The first one looks like it has broken color (possibly a virus). The second one looks like the 'Uchida' I know, the color is solid, unbroken . I

I'm still hoping maybe someone can ID this dark orange beauty for me. I got it in a swap last year from someone who doesn't recall what it is. He's had it 20 years or more.

You might be right about the virus. That plant, the taller of the two, also had some curled blossoms at the top which looked deformed. I guess I am going to give up on growing lancifolium, (Tiger). The don't seem to want to bloom in my garden and of course they are the carriers. You can see the dying leaves at the top of the plant in this shot.

Agree with Magnolia. The flower has textbook viral symptoms. No individual cultivar should have that much variation anyway. I would dig up the plant, bulb and all, discard it in the garbage to be taken away. Try not to break any part of the plant (even leaves) until in the garbage, as that will expose the virus and increase any possibility of spreading. Remember to wash and disinfect you tool afterward, including your hands.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

You know, just Saturday I saw that same lily at a garden center close by and I spoke with one of the people working about my concerns, right next to it was a beautiful 'Uchida', so I compared and educated her. They tossed that lily out. You really can see that broken color easily, especially with that rubrum color. It looks like two different lilies, doesn't it?

Detroit, MI(Zone 6b)

I guess that's what I have to do.
I suppose many of you have been through all this virus stuff many times before but I have been hoping to get someone to hold forth, expound, explain, the whole virus thing a bit. Is the virus spread only by aphids? Do aphids fly? how far away is it safe to have lancifolium from other lilies?
Thanks,
David

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

Winged aphids are produced, althought the vast majority are not winged. Still, even landbound aphid seem to get around quite easily (as do other sucking insects), presumeably on wind currents. Its never completely safe to have infected lilies anywhere. There are no actual rules, but a couple hundred feet might be an acceptable buffer. That said, I guess I am breaking that suggestion already, as my neighbor grows Tiger lilies 60 feet away from my nearest lilies to his.

I was at someone's house in Madison this summer, a rock garden/lily aficionado. She gardens on far less than a quarter acre, and grows Lilium lancifolium var. plenescens less than ten feet from other lilies. She hasn't had any problems, she says. So it's up to you and your level of comfort.

I am sitting here eating fresh tomatoes and raw carrots. I think I have "invented" a tasty carrot dip: the tomato "jell" left of my plate after eating the sliced tomatoes sprinkled with sugar is most pleasing with the carrots. Try it sometime.
