How's this for a tropical scene. The owner has one hell of a garden. I was there yesterday with the Naples Botanical Society tour. He's only about a mile from me and I never knew such jungles existed.

I should have said, 'existed in my neighborhood'. Here's one of his many staghorns.

I have to get some Florida shots into this Texas forum. :-)

Here's another pond on the same property. He called it his drainage pond.

Yupp, similar scene. Here's how he grows his phals

Ooops, wrong picture. There are paths were these orchids hang and grow in trees and all along there are birds of all kinds in these cages all of them making a real jungle racket. There are many animals on the property. Plants seem to be just a sideline. The folks are into an animal rescue operation. I saw three horses and a donkey among the bigger animals and then there were all kinds of fowl all safely covered in wired cages as there are bobcats and other bad boys always trying to have a feast. A deer has a wound on his mouth from a bite of something.

All these photos of places in 10b are making me jealous. Beautiful shots though... lots of good ideas for my "sunk potted" front yard during the summer.

kale, I am in 8a and I try really hard. I plant in the ground and just act like everything is hunky dorey. Nothing at all like fred or RJ. That's ok. Do the best we can.

I'm going to keep a list this year of how many times I hear from the neighbors, "You can't plant that in the ground here."

I swear I heard it a dozen times on the Basjoo last year. I finally just gave up describing what kind of banana it was, and said... we'll see in the Spring. Sure nuff... it's baaaack. And I have 9 more going in in a few weeks :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

hahahahahaha....I hear that a million times...like the Jade vine...
I was happy to point out to the person who told me I can't plant it...that it was alive and fine!
