Okay..Nigeria would be the closest country..
Thanks
Help me Identify or get close to this poinciana type tree
Let us know if you get any answers...☺
Okay,
I sent to Sierra Leonne, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria....none of them are subscribers though.
So...you can still get a d-mail to them, yes? And who knows, they may respond.
true...We'll see..
I did find a person in Liberia once...but no response..
I think you may just have to have a Garden Party of your own, invite all your knowledgable gardening buddies, and have a "name that tree" contest!
LOL, truth will reveal itself if the bugger ever blooms..
I'm scarifying this seed, and will try to sow it, for comparision. :-)
Yes...it looked pretty much like that...it's very blurry...but the color is pretty much the same!
That's the tamarind's seed that I had, it was made into a candy, which I ate. But I think the seed is viable so I'm going to try to sow it and we'll see what happens. :-)
Kim
LOL...that would fun project!
We use to use the seeds in a game the Africans played.
I remembered climbing up the tree to harvest the fruits. But, I'm not convinced that yours is the same Tamarine. However, there is another bigger variety that I remember. The fruits are big, and they tasted very sweet. I wished if there is a site that specialized on tropical fruits that I can look them up.
Could that be a request to Dave for yet another forum? Me thinks so.
I googled African Tamarind trees....the leaves look pretty similar to me...check it out

I did notice that the asian Tamrind trees seem to have smaller, and more organized rows of leaves than the African
And for you adventerous folks...this site has great African food recipes

Thank you, Randy. When I worked for the American designer, Anthony Mark Hankins, not once but twice we had an African Choir as guests for special occasions. So wish I knew their names. Never in my life have I heard such fantastic music. I believe that Eden is supposed to have been in Africa. Can you help us with that? Somewhat like the recording of *Graceland* only 10 times better.
You want some African Music selections?
Here is an interesting site that does feature a few different tamarinds..unfortuneatly...can't get the pictures large enough..always tantalizing info..but there is always something...

You bet on the music. The beat of our hearts.
Will be going to the grocery tomorrow to find all kinds of exotic fruits. Can't wait. Fiesta usually has the best picks. I know, Houston home. First shopped there on hwy 1960.
I know...that is where my Papaya trees came from ...Fiesta....who needs to order on line when we have the best grocery stores in the world ...full of seeds in the fresh produce section!
yay! Found a new source for seed. Gosh, how long did the seed to make a tree? I may not live long enough.

Papayas grow very, very quickly from seed. Nina kept seed from both papaya and mango while helping me with the fruit salad for the wedding...they have both already sprouted and it hasn't even been 4 weeks!
The trees take no time at all..
Simply follow the steps I've out lined here for drying seeds...The trees can achieve 8 feet by the end of the summer provided the conditions for it are proper. plant in spring...tall as 8 feet by end of summer. Don't use pots, don't worry about them dying in the winter..you will have too many to deal with...

Randy - can't remember, do you know Cusco? I want Christi to try them. What do you think?
Thanks to both of you. Lot to keep me busy tomorrow. Let's see, download music,....then go to Fiesta and buy exotic fruits, come home....
LOL.....
No, but you know what we should do..is start a garden new age exchange music program and share each others cool garden music!!
GASP! Why didn't we think of that before??????
I remember us talking about it on your visit...I was wishing I had some of my music ready to go, cause I remember your DH was really digging one of them..I think it was Liquid Mind...there are several CD's, but they're all good
You know what we could do though..is catalogue some of our music in a thread..like just list what we like.
Here is liquid mind, I love how they describe it...Musical Healthcare...it's true!
http://www.liquidmindmusic.com/
I can start a new thread in Tropical Gardening..and then each person can go into their own post and keep editing to add new music..!
Randy, you want to start the thread? I think its a great idea!
Oh what a great idea! Music is the thread of my soul. Cannot live without it.
Make a joyful noise, Oh my soul. Let all who hear have joy.
Tell me where.
Yes..it's started..under the Tropical Gardening forum..called
What's that music playing?

Question to you mavens of music: does anyone know the song with this line - "When I die don't bury me deep so I can hear the rain when I sleep".... I think I have the words right. i heard this only once and it runs thru my mind often!!!
Hoping...carol
Chrissy is a walking encyclopedia of song lyrics. When she gets on here, no doubt she will know. Have you tried googling? I get answers to the most unexpected things by doing that. Mike doesn't even turn on the pc and he just said "Ought to be able to google it". hahahaha He has heard that phrase often enough.
Wow guys, I sent these guys an email and asked how a person not affiliated with a research institute can have access, they wrote back and gave me a password and access for 6months..said they are working on individual login access...but the site is awsome! They have scales to measure leaf sizes..and quite a data base..
There is some samples of Tamarindis indica with 2 and half inch long leaves..trees from madagasgar.
then there is a tool where you can calibrate the mouse and do measurements on the picture.... coolest research plant site that's user friendly...
It looks as though their documentation is primarily centered around African plants though..

Randy, I printed out 24 pages of your journal today. Purchased 50#'s each dried molasses, alfalfa pellets and corn meal. I am reading all our your wonderful research. You are a master professor already. Will let you do the hard work and condense it into something I might understand. Thank you for sharing.
Christi
Wonderful Christi...wow..there were 24 pages!!! lol...I had no idea..
Yes...you have just discovered the "secret" that you've been going on about right there girl...those alfalfa pellets are miracle pellets...your garden will love you forever.!
Alfalfa pellets? What do you do with them, will they work in pots, and do you know of a place I can order them? Enquiring minds want to know!
I now have homework to do. Must study to know how and when.
Have been using Epsom Salt forever but never really knew why.
You would be so disappointed if you were to actually see my garden. BUT I'M LEARNING. Trying really hard. Just don't think I will ever learn all of those Latin names.
