Polys Polys.. I need Polys

La Plata, MD(Zone 7a)

I'd say that's a superpoly.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Could you guys that have several that poly often make a list? I am interested in adding them to my garden but I need some help on the ones that are consistent.
Thanks,
Teresa

One of my Strawberry Candy plants has been poly-ing like crazy -- so far 3 days in a row. (Haven't yet checked today.) Sunday there was a "5 and 5"! I'm at work but will post pics tonight. Never noticed this in prior seasons but just recently started looking for it. Stay tuned...

Even my old Child's : KEY LIME polys occasionally,

Here is a new seedling this year, and I'm going to keep it another year - 3 blooms so far - lst-single, 2nd and 3rd poly. It is (Shepherds Light x White Temptation) X Land of Cotton, It looked like a big ice cream cone at 4 PM on a 90 degree day. Yum.

This Strawberry Candy has 5 petals and 5 sepals!

Here's another from the same plant on the same day (different scape) with 4 petals and 3 sepals.

This photo was taken the following day showing 4 petals and 4 sepals. I've noticed polytepals on this plant for the past 4 days -- 2 blossoms each day. Apparently this is a fluke as Strawberry Candy is not on the AHS' list of polytepalous daylilies!

WOW!! I have never seen Strawberry Candy poly.

Chapin, SC(Zone 7b)

Susan, that Bold Encounter is a real winner.

Se_eds, that is a cool seedling. If it's a dip you might want to try crossing it with Schnickel Fritz, which is a white double that polys.

Springfield, OH(Zone 6a)

I love this thread. Not really getting too many poly's here this year, here's a yellow Riverbend seedling that polyed the other day.

I'm in love.

Elberfeld, IN(Zone 6a)

I am wondering if many of the poly blossoms are due to unusual weather or other conditions - I had several poly and whatever you call 5 + 5 that have never done it before - our weather has been weird the past year....just a thought

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

B. Bay is a favorite of mine! I don't think I have noticed mine doing that. I will be watching closer!

Lakes of the Four Se, IN(Zone 5a)

jrwbirds, I was thinking the same thing. Could be the weird weather patterns.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Clear Mountain Morning /2008 / did this on 7th scape
Stamile said it had never did it for him . weather fluke perhaps

Badseed,

Thank you for the clear explanation of what a poly is, as I'm not up on all the daylily terms & had been wondering. I think I have a couple, then, based on what I've seen in this thread.

Is this a poly?

Is this a poly? Is it a double? Is there a difference in the two?

It is not a poly. It looks like it is trying to double. A double is when extra petals are growing up from the middle.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

You can think of a daylily have rows or layers of petals (using just one term for simplicity) Normal daylilies have two rows of three each. Polys will have two rows of four or five each. (sometimes more but that's rare) When they have extra rows then they are doubles
