My first Asiatics

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Steve, my Stargazer could have came back, have I left it alone. While cultivateed the new planting site. I chopped it in half this early spring. Made me so ill I could cry.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

LOL (sorry don't mean to laugh at your loss, but I can relate!) - I have killed several emerging sprouts by being overzealous with my digging/planting, or just trying to see if something was coming up. Not to mention completely destroying whole bulbs. I have learnt to be more patient. Nothing worse than that "chomping into an apple" sound you hear your shovel make - and your heart sinks....I think we have all done it! I usually dig by hand now in precarious situations.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Sickening sound, isn't it? Though I'm happy to report that a bulb that was chopped in half last fall has put up some very small babies this year.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Moby, for that very reason. I CAREFULLY replaced the soil around this precious, hoping it would survive.....so far I'm looking at blank.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Very sickening!! But I am glad to hear that your bulb has reproduced some babies, Moby. I think when the scales are disturbed they will root and form new bulbs

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

If you left your Stargazer in place, it should eventually make new bulblets. However, orientals can be very slow. Some of my oriental scales took six months to set small bulblets. I guess if it were me, I'd dig that one up and scale it. That way you at least know what's going on with it.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ah hah, giving me more chore to to this weekend. But I'm willing. Thanks beaker_ch

Oh, btw, what should I do with those babies having babies bulbils on my tyger lilies? Should I break them off and plant them, when is a good time to do that?

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Some new orange Asiatics - these are very tall.

Another daylily I know - Sweet Potatoes" from Klehm...big daylily - picture doesn't do it justice.

OOOh, how nice. I have American Dream planted, but I don't expect her to look that good this year! That Sweet Potato is a nice daylily! ;)

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks Ticker - well I have been admiring your extensive peony collection :0-)

Here is "American West" OT

Oh, American West is a beauty too! How nice! :)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Wonderful pics ~ I'm going to have to get some of those American Dream lilies.

This crazy year...... anybody else have lilies blooming in May?? I have another one that will probably open tomorrow.

Well thanks guys - I like it more than I thought I would. It is very striking. I am eager for next year when they will be a lot bigger.

Well May lilies are normal for us....but not so normal for you guys! Oh well, I am usually done and have lily envy when yours are just coming into all their glory

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Well MOby - yours look to be about as far along as many of mine are! Very nice Asiatic you have there :-)

nelson, New Zealand(Zone 9a)

Steve, your American west is fabulous. I have a few of these, all unknown names but no matter, theya re all so pretty

ferrymead,
I'm a long time lover of lilies. But just recently I discovered DG, and I'm learning more about lilies' cultures and as a bonus, their names. Keep the pics. coming please. Love them all.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Wow, Moby, asiatics for you already? The only things coming even close here are my "cheater bulbs", that I started in February. Lucky cat, you!
ferrymead, beautiful pinks!

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Is that a dwarf asiatic, Moby? I think those will be the first to open for me, but I might be wrong.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Denia is a cute little shortie, just over a foot tall for me.

Very sweet, Moby! Now I want my Deana to bloom.... :)

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks ferrymead,

I agree..I love lilies, BTW I have seen many of your posts over on the Australia forum, and a very interesting and beatiful garden you have. Show us some more pictures of your cool house!

Moby, you have Irises!!! I have some coming this fall but nothing here this spring :-(

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Well lily_love, you and I are fortunate to get blooms about the same time - and ahead of most - though we're high and dry when theirs are in all of their glory!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Isn't this just the weirdest year yet ~ I have several irises that are just starting to bloom. Who would have thought there would be lilies in May and irises in June?

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

My dwarf dutch iris seemed to bloom on time, but all the tall bearded ones are late. I do have Immortality that has been blooming for about a week and a half. While most of the lilies are up, I just saw some noses appearing this past week.

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

My Scheherazade already has buds on it and it isn't suppose to bloom until mid. August. My bearded iris bloomed this time last year also.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

It's amazing - everything is on time here or maybe even a little late for us. We hade a cold winter and are having a cool spring/summer. It has only hit 90 one time and that didn't last - and it is almost June! Also, lots of rain here, unlike last year...

Roopville, GA(Zone 7b)

i am loving these pictures! i love lilies!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I love them lilies so much so that. After nearly 8 hours of hard labor, a stout tiller, truck load of bark mulch, 8 bags of compost. many trip back and forth with added garden dirt, leave molds. Wood and rock borders. We've a moderate raised bed, for our lilies next year!!!! Yoooohoooo.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Oh Steve,
So you know, though, I don't yet have Casa Blanca, one of my neighbor has one gorgeous Casa. It's about 3 feet tall, not yet bloom. Also, last year my "Ice Dancer" looks remarkably like that of Casa Blanca, didn't bloom until July. I can't wait.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I am going to try "Siberia", Lily_Love - it supposedly has decent heat tolerance. The one Oriental I have that has come back strongly every year has been LeReve

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I'm going to learn more about lilies. Thus far all are lovely, but Casa Blanca, Formosa, and my latest, Golden Splendor. Love those tigers too, but I need to learn more. Any input would be greatly appreciated. One of my buddies stated that she had tiger lilies for many years in her garden, this year however, none showed up. Voles? The culprits? I saw voles running here and there in my garden. I'm worried too if this critter will devour my lilies.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Yes, they can.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

ok, what's next? Voles trap? Is it a danger when we have domestic pets around?
Kim

Golden Splendor, how sweet!!!!
