My Godzilla this yr. will top close to 6 1/2' tall and I noticed that their is a new plant coming next to the parent bulb.
The very first lily bulb that I ever purchased and planted.

Wow, Maxine!
Do you have a picture or have you already posted it?
I have Starfighter, Muscadet, Excelsior, and a misnamed pink one in the shade and they do fine! Muscadet was HUGE!
Actually, my shady ones always look nicer and stay longer than the sunny ones. The ones in the sun fade in color really fast, compared to when they're in the shade.

Well that is great news! I suddenly have even more room for lilies! Thanks, kbaumle!
I already have a muscadet that I can move over there. It is a recessed planter up against the house; I have some ferns in there but because it is recessed you can hardly see them. It gets a bit of morning sun. Sounds just great!
Just remember, when you plant in shade, there are a few things that are going to happen. First, the lilies will get taller because they will be stretching for sun. Second, without enough sun, your bulbs will gradually decline, so you will have to plan to replace every few years. My neighbor across the street lost all her stargazers this year. I think they were 3 or 4 years old. They were beautiful last year and about 5 feet tall, so there was no real warning that they were declining.
beaker, I didn't know that. Guess I'll be moving them then! They get just a tad of midday sun and that's it. Shade the rest of the time. Should I move them after they're done blooming, or wait until the foliage dies down?
Ticker, my Orientals and Orienpets are blooming too! I was gone to the National Lily Convention and came back to find all kinds of surprises----
And guess what? I WANT MORE LILIES!
Oh Wanda, a woman after my own heart! :) We need to talk. :)

Well, I ran into this wonderful elderly couple who have been hybridizing Asiatics for 40 years from Minnesota. They don't do email or websites or catalogs--only "walk in" sales. I saw their blooms in garden after garden & loved the multi-colored speckled/brushed/dotted beauties! What to do? I'm having them "tag" & dig 20 of their favorites for me. I guess I'll just get surprised next summer! :)
Wanda, where in Minnesota do they live? Would a road trip be in order?
Diann
Not too far, they're in Rochester.
heh, heh.... >:)
Wow! My kindergarden friend lives there and wants me to come for a visit. Thought I might combine that with going to Bernies. Wanda . . . your phone is ringing.
Wanda, do they live off Hwy 14? i had the directions, but now I don't.
Ha, I know my way to Rochester (basically to the Mayo Clinic) but I do know how to get there. :) Could do a day of it and hit Willowglen in Decorah... :) I might have to think about that....
Diann
I might be up for that trip, Ticker!
Crockers by any chance?
I heard they were retiring this year. There was a farewell picnic for NSLS members at their place a few weekends ago. My friend Forrest went and said their place is amazing. Also came home with a few bulbs.
The Crockers both turn 85 this year and retiring after decades of hybridizing. Wonderful people! I think I have their address in my convention notes somewhere.
I'm looking forward to seeing their lilies bloom in my yard next summer.
Beaker_ch- I was informed the other day by a garden center that Double Prize or/Double Price is involved in some law suit, they actually had to pull the name out of all the plants and tell me that it was an "unnamed variety". When I named the name, he smiled but couldn't tell me I was right. I guess the "original" hybridizer of this lily has done a DNA test and it is identical to what he has been calling Miss Lucy. This business can be tricky I guess. Whatever the name, it is a beauty. If you do a Google seach under double price , there is a thread where the guy from Holland in the law suit writes.
Seems like everyone has Muscadet and I can understand why. It's highly fragrant and so purely white and lots of blooms!
Wanda you have mail. :)
Ticker--come on over and look at the lilies, but dig up some of those iris you have been coveting... :)
Don't have to tell me twice. :) I'll be over later this morning. ;)'
