Midwest Lilies 3

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Wanda is great! (Both of them.) I will have to look for that one. I am just glad my African Queen was the right color on the inside. Lately, most of my bulbs don't seem to be what I order. Whatever it is, I like it. Good thing I don't do a lot of bulb trading because I have lots of unknowns. Wonder what is going on with the bulb companies?

You're not the only one having problems, Susan. I've been scratching my head all week at some of the stuff opening here.

I may be wrong about the Lily Garden having Wanda. When I went to bed last night, I opened the Lily Nook catalog for a few minutes and it was in there. I don't think it's one you see too many places.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Shocking, lost it's buds to frost last year, but came back O.K.

Beaker_ch your Peach Flutterbies looks more like Rosepoint Lace to me. What do you think.
inanda

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Inanda, you're right it's not Peach Butterflies, but it's not Rosepoint Lace either. I went back to see what else was expected in 2004 and didn't show. I think it is Ariaden. Do you agree?

It does look a lot like Ariadne.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I wondered about those Peach Butterflies too ...since my Rosepoint Lace did not look quite as red as what your pic showed, I didn't say anything.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Another one blooming.

My ariadne is much brighter pink. Form seems correct but seems too pale. Hmm....

Just went out to look at my ariadne. Yours isn't. Maybe go back through your invoices/orders for the last few years to see if you can ID it.

Here's my Ariadne, making her debut. Brought back from the Lily seminar this spring.

Well, mine looks more buff colored, not pink. My records show that I pruchased white and peach butterflies, Ariadne and Tiger Babies, all no shows in 2004. I show that Ariadne was planted in that general location. If it isn't Ariadne, I don't know what it is. LOL, maybe it is a really ugly tiger, but the stems don't look right for tht either. However, Last summer, I did plant some red tiger hybrids in that lacation, but what I'm seeing is orange. Maybe there is something lacking in my soil over there.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

If it's buff/cream with wine to brown spots, I would guess it is Rosepoint Lace. Here's is a close up of mine. What do u think?

The reason I've discounted Rosepoint Lace is because of the distintive "spotting" on Rosepoint Lace. RL spotting has distintive dashes and I don't have that on mine. Also, these flowers are very small.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Yeah, they do have dashes and specks. They are not large flowers tho. About 3 inches only. Do you have a frontal view? Maybe that would help some of the 'more knowledgeable than me' folks ID it. :)

Looking at what's left of my Ariadne this morning, it doesn't look that pink to me. Taking into account, differences in llighting, growing conditions, etc, I still think yours could be Ariadne.

Nice bunch of lilies you have there, Kooger.

Here is my first Oriental, Pink Pearl. Didn't get the 'pearl' which sometimes occurs in cool weather, but did get some doubling on one bloom.

Never heard of PP - that is very pretty! It's gonna be weeks before my orientals open - usually early Aug.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Nice Pearl Pink, Moby!

Kooger, where is Inwood? How far is it from Cedar Rapids? Do you have a large dog? Are your lilies fenced in? :) *evil laff* Seriously, you have some really nice lilies! :)

I need to get out and get some pictures taken tomorrow....

Just abt as far from u as possible and still be in IA. ha ha! The late, great Barney is no more and I have no fences! I guess I'm easy prey!! Other than Dress Rehearsal, those bulbs are all courtesy of llilyfan. Beauties aren't they? The Black Dragon and Kansas are abt to open, then all of her's are blooming! Yippee! After such a disappointing lily season from that late frost last year, we deserve an excellent bloom season. :D

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

After such a disappointing spring last year for anything we deserve a great year.. Oh well, since you're probably in Western Iowa I guess your lilies are safe, for now. :)

Kooger,

Go have a look at Samur. Looks just the same as your Dress Rehearsal to me. Maybe check with your suppplier or catalogue or??? I'll go look at plantfiles after I've posted this.

Either yours is labeled wrong or mine is.
Ginny

Plantfiles Samur was added by Echoes. Maybe that doesn't prove anything as we might have it from the same source. Can't find Dress Rehearsal in the RHS Register though. Maybe it is yet another Dutch renaming. Who knows.

Interesting! I think mine was a big box store clearance so wouldn't be surprised at all if it's wrong. I'll check it out.

Kooger,

they looked right to me. "Amarillo has a darker reverse almost like a trumpet has and is strongly outfacing. I made a couple of crosses to it this year. We'll see in 2 years what I get!

Lots of blooms right now..my yard is a kalidescope of color.

One more thing then I'm off to Part 4!

Kooger, you are Iowa's frozen North! Heck, it's like the balmy tropics here! ;)
