I'll settle for a hint of green here and there and a promise of better weather to come...
Wierd Weather!
Well Gang, I just heard the bad news from my sister, so had to go out on weather.com to read it for myself. We're going to have a repeat of Monday starting tonight sometime. Currently projecting 5 to 7 inches of heavy, wet snow in the Twin Cities. Get your errands run today, Pauline. Looks like the Northeast is also getting hit today.
Beaker, Do not, do not send this storm my way again. I have not made it to the wood pile with my hand scoop yet from the last one you sent. Send it due East to Kelly or maybe Big City, he can stay home and practice his "funky chicken". Ken
Looks like we're going to get hammer again with winter. This one looks like it might not hit as far north as the last one. We only got 5 inches out of the last one, but they are promising much more this time around. I'm rescheduling my day for tomorrow.
Marie
Ken, I don't think there is much I can do about it. You might try giving the Snow Gods a libation. Always works for me up at the lake for the Rain Gods. Doesn't work for my sister, but that's because she isn't sincere. You have to be sincere.
One summer when I was going up there alot, rain was always predicted. I'd go out on the dock about midnight with a full Vodka/Seven, pour it into the lake and request no rain. We always had sunny skies and people around the lake were blaming me for the "drought ".
Birds feeding heavy today. They know what's coming.
beaker Just got home from running errands, the snow plows had been by and I couldn't get into my driveway. Hopefully I can get that dug out in time to get the car in the garage before the next snow comes. So have you ever poured vodka/seven into a snow pile? What lake do you pour it into? We have a cabin on Lake Sulivan near Onamia. We had been getting itchy to open it up, but I do believe we will wait until late April or May like we usually do.
Hey Big City are you ready for that snow? It sounds like Ken doesn't want any more.
Pauline
I guess ? Not like it's warm enough to do anything outside anyway.
Is Ken still trying to convince people he doesn't live at the Nrth Pole?
Al
Reminds me of a great movie line. "You feed the mayonnaise directly to the tuna". Hey, while I'm on here, Equil just posted a great link for WI trees on the Tree & shrub forum; Conifer ID.
I have to admit I am anxious for all the green shoots of spring, but I still have to say...."bring it on!" March snows are some of the best--love snow and the it seems the ground needs it.
Pauline, I'm appalled. They're just getting to your streets now? I knew Minneapolis was bad for plowing, but I didn't realize that bad!
Farm Island Lake in Aitkin County. Just about 9 miles north of Garrison up 169. It';s where I grew up and graduated from High School. When I was a kid, my folks owned a resort. Back in the 80s it was turned into an association and my sister was able to purchase one of the larger cabins. I owned the property behind the resort, but sold it in the 90s. Too much to take care of. I only go up now once or twice a year. Can't take the drive. Gave up libations to the Rain Gods years ago. Never tried it down here. For some reason there doesn't seem to be an appropriate spot for it, plus I'm no longer the party girl I once was much to my sister's disgust. I now just tag along with her to make sure she doesn't get into trouble.
Speaking of parties, there's going to be a great one on Friday at the Rosetown American Legion on County Road C in Roseville. The Rice Street Boys are playing there that night and they are a very good oldies rock band. Nonmembers are always welcome. Festivities actually start around noon with the serving of a traditional Irish lunch.
Hey Ken and Al you will find spring on its way. Up here at the real north pole (alaska) it is sunny and warm 40F. Sending spring your way via the Jet stream. Garou teed snow melt by 22nd.
Sof,
how your dogs doing BTW - are you in the running yet?
say hi to santa - and tell him I'm sorry - he knows why
He told me Al! I can't believe you did that. Were you not thinking. I don't think he is going to be that 'giving' next Christmas. Did you know that santa dresses like Paul Bunyan in the off season? And the reindeer wear boots. I guess they hate stepping in water.
Started snowing about an hour ago. I just put the dog out and it looks like an inch or more already. Saw plows running down Central Avenue in tandem. They were truckin'. Must have been a lot of complaints from Monday. Snow didn't look wet to me, so maybe it will be easier to blow and shovel tomorrow.
We were supposed to get about 6" but it went south of us. No snow on the ground here this morning.
A bit of snow and ice last night heraled by howling winds. Very Iowa in March.
Tons of snow here ~ yea! We needed it desperately. It's hard to tell how much we got because it's so wet and heavy, but I'd say it's around 15 inches.
You've got the winter blues alright, we missed out totally this time.
Moby, If you were watering in Jan I imagine that the earth was open to receive this great blessing. I remember,as a boy, farmers telling me that a snow like this on newly sown oats was such a benefit that all immeadiately gave thanks. Hoping that this breaks the back of the drought and you have an abundant year. Ken
Thank you, I hope it does the trick too!
Talk about weird weather - last week, the 13th, 2 tornados
devastated Springfield; then last night a blizzard white-out dumped 6 - 8" of snow.
It rained alot here in February--sump pump was going crazy in the basement. I was afraid we would have a warm spring with frost damage again. It's chilly here like it should be now. Gives me time to finish up my in house tasks.
Moby-I have never seen such clean streets right after a snow. I wish Minneapolis did such a good job of plowing.
Our snow is sinking. In my yard it varies between about 6" to 14" now.
It sounds as it that snow was a blessing. We had had so little this winter it was here too.
LOL, Zen ~ I live on a bus route and they've been plowing for 2 days. I lived in St. Paul for 15 years and I can assure you MN manages snow so much better than we do here. :)
Our snow id all gone and it warmed to 45 degrees yesterday. Spring?
Ugh
I just went to check the thermometer it is 32º and snowing!!!!
Snowing here this morning, too. Nothing much, just a few flakes drifting down.
sstateham- so far all we have is a few flakes as well.
A couple of inches last night and I had just gotten the deck to look like Zen's front walk. Bummer
kandlmidd-It just doesn't want to go away does it. At the moment the flakes are stopped here, but the sky is very dark to the North of us and it is moving this way.
I still think I'd rather have it cold and all my plants sleeping, than warm too early with killing frosts to come. Like LAST year.
Weather sure makes a good subject.

Yepper to that.
Amen Wanda. My exact words this morn. Maybe April will act like April instead of March. Most of my stuff is staying dormant. Even the grape hyacinths, and the crocus has froze in its tracks.(Snicker, I couldn't resist.)
First Crocus bloomed YESTERDAY! Got to go out and cover more emerging evergreen daylilies today & uncover more iris.
3/10th of an inch of rain this morn!!!
drizzle here.
Worked the sap detail this afternoon: bright sun, blue skies, high of 46. Almost a steady stream out of the tap. Should have worn snow shoes again just because you would think you had support on the crust, then down your leg would go 12-18" while the other leg stayed up on surface as you were carrying 2 full 5 gal pails of sap about 30' to a central collection point. Must have been funny to look at espically the concentration on my face trying to stay upright. Roads getting soft, it's what they call mud time up here. Ken
