*jumping up and down*

:-)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Those are great bulbs! I'm sure you could pay 10 times that for the same size bulbs.

(psst...don't let doss even get you started on irises ~ she's a bad, bad influence!)

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

He,he,he,he......;-)
I'm not the only bad influence around here. How come I have the reputation?

Corte Madera, CA

moby, she DID already last year BEFORE YOU GUYS got me hooked on LILIES. lol.

i dug up and cleaned some lilies. these ones didn't grow much because i cut the stalks WAAAAAY down. but i saw some BABIES. cool!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

heh, heh! Ah, well ~ we're all rotten in our own right. ;)

this is most definitely a confession and I can't tell you how stupid I feel. Like a child, I saw lily Double Miss Lucy (see photo) and clicked on "buy now" faster than I don't know what. The bulbs (2) arrived in today's mail and am I dissapointed! They are the size of a walnut. I guess for $10 each I expected something more like the size of a lime or so. I bought from ebayer Bulbmart, adba VanBourgodien adba Dutch Bulbs adba Hirts

Bulbs look ok, just oh so small

wow. please check your d-mail, nery.

Annapet, those bulbs look awsome to me; I've paid much more for much smaller. My experience with lilies indicates the ultimate bulb size depends both on cultivar and growing conditions. Typically a bulb will increase in size for a year or two, producing a taller plant with more blooms. Then when it's as big as it's gonna get, it will split into 2 or 3 nice big bulbs. I've found they multiply really fast here (much faster than other places I've lived); I planted 3 Muscadet in spring '04 and had 3- 2 1/2' stems. In summer of '05 I had 7 - 4' stems! You can just imagine the gleeful happy dance I did.

I was suprised last fall when I dug up 2 patches of Asiatics, The pink ones that get about 4' tall had big bulbs, some 3" or more across. The orange ones that get 5' tall and have huge blooms had bulbs only about 2" in diameter, and some smaller.

Kylee, how is your soil where your lilies are planted (the ones that have'nt multiplied)? I've had lilies that did'nt progress much for a couple of years and have ammended the soil with generous amounts of manure, and that fixed it. I read in an old book about bulbs that lilies liked manure, and the results I had were dramatic.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Moby, you've got some awsome lilies! Do you shop a lot with The Lily Garden?

boojum, I love Barbaresco; been on my list for a couple of years now- your pic has really convinced me!

Hi Vossner
It state the bulb size as 16-18 cm that should be about 1.75 inches across or up to 7 inches around.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Neal. I get my bulbs from many places and yes, Lily Garden does factor in heavily. I looked back at the last group of pics I posted and believe all of those came from Lily Garden.

Moonglow---

Love your beautiful Crown Princess Margaretta Rose---can just dream of it planted with all of the beautiful lilies pictured!

Love this thread!

and kbaumle--you are going to have a fantastic garden this summer--I think we must have the Ohio R V RU at your place! OK?

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Neal, our natural soil here is heavy clay, but I've been amending it for several years now, where that particular lily is. And my cats have helped LOTS with that. LOL. They love my former herb garden, and that is where my most fantabulous soil is, thanks to them. It's loose, rich and things grow like wildfire in it. Unfortunately, it's in total shade now, so the herbs no longer can be there, and I'm just now putting more shade plants there.

tabasco, I'm not really sure what it is you're talking about, but I'm pretty much open to anything (I think...LOL). So, I'm going to say...yes? LOL

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Vossner - I had Miss Lucy blooming in my garden last summer for the first time; also from Van Bourgodien. The bulbs were small, but they put out 2 flowers on one stem and 3 on the other. I'm expecting a bigger display this year; at least I hope so! Good things come to those that wait and the flowers are really very lovely. When I planted Fata Morgana and it bloomed, I was really disappointed; sort of an ugly duckling. I have better hopes for it this year. If you like doubles, look for an asiatic called Aphodite. It's a double pink and very pretty.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Kylee ~ you might want to hold up on that 'yes'. LOL Tabasco is talking about having the Ohio River Valley Round Up at your house. Even if only the Ohio DG members showed up, that would be a bunch!

And beaker ~ you not so far away, you should come to the Iowa Round Up. It would only be about a 4 hour drive for you. There's also one being discussed for Wisconsin. Then there is the big North America Lily show in July in Eau Claire. Next 2 years after that, the show will be in Canada.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

What's a Round Up? My big excuse for not going up to my sister's cabin more often is that I can't leave my garden!!!! A Round Up would have to be pretty good to blast me away from here once the growing season starts.

The dates for Eau Claire is July 12th through the 16th.

Here is a link for the IA RU http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/510804/ and for WI RU http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/522550/

I kinda figured you'd know about NALS. :)

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......................uh............thanks for asking, but not this time. ;-) Looks like fun, though!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Just thought that I'd mention that bloomingbulb is having a sale. And free shipping. Orienpets and Orientals too.

oh beaker, I just had a whine attack. The fact is that I will have to post positive feedback because the transaction was quick and the items are healthy. For some strange reason I was expecting bulbs the size offered by buggycrazy (?) or else I've been buying too many cheapies at walmart.

Aphrodite sure is pretty. So is Fata Morgana though I do very little gardening with yellow/blue. Please notice though, that last year I was saying "I do no yellow/blue gardening". This year I'm saying "do little". What will I say next year???????

doss, this is voss. thank you!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I don't think anybody has bulbs like buggycrazy!

This thing must be pumped up on steroids ~ at least 6 or 7 inches across.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Moby, she's my fav seller right now, but I've only bought her species lilies so far and they don't get that big!! Wowsers!!!! (I think I got that from Magpye!)

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I went to the Northstar Lily Society bulb sale last fall and they had a Sheherazade bulb on display that I swear was 12" across. I've never seen a bulb that big.

Corte Madera, CA

moby, that bulb just reminded me of "bloomin onion" from outback steakhouse. i've been gardening all afternoon and i'm HUNGRY. 57F right now and not windy at all.

thanks for the link, doss. but i'm not too happy about bloomingbulb right now. the daffs and tulips i got from them this year are tiny, and some were moldy. i'll get over this for sure and will be back in their loving arms again.

i'll catch up with you all later.

ap

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Did bloomingbulb replace your bulbs? I sure hope so. If they didn't did you report it in the Watchdog? Please? Thanks!

Corte Madera, CA

i know they would have replaced the bulbs had i made the complaint earlier on. but they should have sent excellent goods from the get go. the ones i got from breck's are superb this year. i know they get bad rap often.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Kylee, don't worry, bulbs like buggycrazy's are very uncommon on the market, but you're often still getting good bulbs lots of the time.

I've ordered one of those biggies from her, a Leslie Woodriff. And 3 L.henryii, as well as some yellow callas and castor bean seeds! The first order of '06 for me! I'm sure the ordering is about to gain momentum, LOL.
Neal.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Moby, thanks for the Round Up info. That Iowa group sounds pretty wild.

Re NAL, I try to keep up with what is going on, but mainly I only go to the local society bulb sales. In fact, last year I was introduced to Judith Freemen, but I was so excited about nabbing on to three Red Dutch bulbs (cheap bulbs, I might add), it didn't register with me who she was. At the time, I was even told "the creator of the bulbs I just picked up" and I just said "Hi, how are you" and went on my merry way looking for more treasures. It didn't hit me until I was walking out who she was. I went back, but by that time, she was 10 deep in people and I couldn't hear what was being said. What an idiot and what a missed opportunity. Oh well, that's bulb lust for ya.

I'm getting more interested in species and I'm considering joining SLPG. I only have two right now, but I've ordered 4 more for this season. I'm still pretty much a lily novice. There's so much to learn!

The other day when you were teasing everyone with your lily photos, I noticed we had a lot of the same ones. You know what they say about great minds!

Beaker

Corte Madera, CA

gaining MORE momentum, neal? oh, no!

can't wait to use this $2 off coupon at costco. limit 10 bags. i wonder what's left of the collection 2nd week of feb though when the coupon becomes valid. argh!!!

somewhere, PA

LOL Beaker! "Oh well, that's bulb lust for ya."

I've been drooling here for days seeing all the gorgeous bulbs posted.
But just had to react to that story about meeting Judith Freeman! So funny!!!
And sounds like something I would do.

Corte Madera, CA

i had to look at the photo parade again....wowee! so easy to fall in love with lilies. they are SHOWY and many are fragrant!

was working on the memory garden i started may 2005 for my late aunt. DA rose "pat austin" is in bloom and had to snip a bloom for hubby's aunt who's staying with us now. it has the colors of moby's "royal sunset."

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

You missed Judith Freeman!? Makes me cringe for you! (I probably would have done the same thing. duh? lol) Bulb lust will get ya every time!

Has Red Dutch bloomed for you or did you just put it in? The pic on their site really doesn't do it justice ~ (there's that 'great minds' thing again) :)

OK, here is a "non-Lily Garden" lily for you ~

Purple Sensation

Thumbnail by Moby
Corte Madera, CA

moby!!!! i want that "purple sensation". will go great with my "social climber" roses. oh, wow.

and another wow. i'm roasting garlic in the oven right now, and will blend them for my spaghetti sauce.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

yummm!

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Moby, I planted Red Dutch last fall and I believe the bulbs came from Judth Freeman. I wasn't going to get them until this year, but they were really cheap plus I had a 10% discount being a society member. Here's pic I picked off a grower's site in the Netherlands.

BTW, I also have Purple Sensation. It amazes me we have so many of the same bulbs. Guess we won't be doing much trading.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I guess we'll have to have a contest to get something new! LOL Sounds like you'd better get a journal going ~ :)

Alrighty then ~ here's a mystery: This was mislabled, suggestions are that it could be Lavender Ladies or maybe Kyoto. Care to toss your hat in the ring with a guess?

And another ~ this has the faintest pink on the petal tips.
