Confessions Part II: What lilies have you planted for 2006?

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I don't know how long its been since you moved, but they've put a lot of upgrades in over the past several years. The Northstar Lily Society held it's big show there last summer. I didn't go, couldn't drag myself away from my own garden, but I heard it was a huge success.

There's usually a big plant sale there every spring. Last time I went to that, I was almost trampled. Put a cheap plant in front of 200 people and watch out.

I am going to try to make it to the Friends School plant sale this spring. It's being held at the State Fair Grounds. I'm trying to talk a girlfriend into going for added protection. I'm bribing her with new, out of the package Zinnia seeds. She's so easy (LOL).

Beaker, when is the sale being held at the fair grounds?

Building?

Thanks, Maxine

Not really a rebloom, but I do like the way some of the new Orienpets have tertiary buds that extend the blooming season. I only have a couple that are said to do that, and they're not established yet, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Friends School Plant Sale - Looks like May 12 - 14. Here's a link to the website.

Neal - I know Silk Road is one that does this extended bloom thing. Do you know the names of any others?

beaker ~ I lived in St. Paul for 15 years and moved from there in '95. I'm sure it's changed a lot.

Neal ~ I'm all for secondary and tertiary buds, but when they're done I want a whole new scape. Wouldn't that be grand?

Oh wow, would'nt that make me happy! Strangely, I have had potted Easter lilies (longiflorums) that I bought cheap after Easter, bloom again the same year. Not reliably, but more than once. The mad scientist plant breeders are probably hard at work on it as we speak, lol.

The only one with tertiary buds I could find in a quick look through the catalog, was Anastasia, and she's a beaut. I'm thinking I saw others, but did'nt find them this time.

Hey, I 'd be happy to see some of them bloom even once. Darn rabbits! I'm ready for them THIS year....

I saw my first lily pip today, and it worries me a bit. It was a month later before I saw any last year. But it sure is exciting; spring is just 25 days away!!!!

It's in the shere today but back to feezing tommorrow. About a month early for the weather to be so confused. I fear an early spring again and late snow or frost damage like last year....
