How about this one? SDB. I'm pretty sure it's;

JOLLY FELLOW
(A. Brown, R. 1972), Sdlg. M 1404-5. SDB. 13-14" (33-36 cm), EM.
"S. greenish tan; F. velvety brown, slightly lighter edges; flax blue beard. M 1292-7: (Snow Troll x Grace Note) X Gingerbread Man. J & J Iris 1973."

What do you think?

This iris came from my grandmother's yard., so it is pretty old, and mildly fragrant (grapey)
Anyone have any ideas?

oceangirl is your photo close to the real color? My photo is lighter then the iris really is. It is so dark and rich. I wish I could get a better color on it. I do have many the color of the photo you posted. Would like to know it's name also. Hope we both find answers!
Thanks

So many lovely old purples have interbred & seeded over the years---you may only find a named "cousin". Check out the Argyle Acres & other historic iris sites. Be sure to know the height, beard color & inner color . Good luck!

This looks something like them:

It looks like this one from Argyles has a white beard. Mine has a brown beard. Maybe you can see it better in this shot.
