WHO DAT PART 2#

Lafayette, IN(Zone 5a)

looks like my superstition.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Paani, I dont think mine has that yellow/greenish tint.

Eugene, OR

Thanks, Deb. The neighbors are moving and going to divide their iris clump. Does it matter what time of year irises are divided?

Lafayette, IN(Zone 5a)

The books say in the fall; I move and divide when I have time or feel like it. Are they moving now? If so, I would go ahead and take what they want to give you. If there are blooms, I would cut the blooms for a bouquet, then cut the leaves in an upside down V shape (^) so the tallest middle leaf is about 8" tall. Then re-plant them. Make sure that the root coming from the rhizome has enough room and the rhizome is not completely covered with dirt. To help secure the rhizome so the roots can take hold, I use an old wire coat hanger cut in a length and U-shaped to fit over the rhizome and securely in the dirt. Just lower it over the rhizome and poke it into the dirt.

Lafayette, IN(Zone 5a)

BTW, the siberians are beginning to bloom, so the two dark blue ones will be coming your way soon (as well as a few more different colors if you want). Oh and Baby Sister also!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Wowie!! That's gorgeous!
:) Donna

Eugene, OR

Deb, Thanks for that information. I'll share it with my neighbors because they weren't sure of what to do about dividing and moving them either. I'd love whatever you want to send, and I'll look around for more goodies to send your way, also. Do you like cannas?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

CAS_Oregon, lucky you that your neighbour is giving you Superstition. I bought one last year and lost it.

It looks like it. I bought my Mom a few for Mother's Day a couple of years back. She like this one at the iris show. Very large.

Moerkerke_Damme, Belgium(Zone 7b)

Well i think you might be right, it is a very large one. And it's about 3 to 4 feet tall. Thx for the ID on it.

Eugene, OR

PerennialGirl, My neighbor's 40 foot fir tree fell through the fence on to some of my hostas and hydrangia. I fixed the fence and called it even for some of their rocks and these irises. They have been around for several years so it looks like they will survive here with no problem. The deer don't even like them. Why do you think yours died? Maybe I can get a couple extra and send them your way.

Deb, I'm scheduled to get waaaay more canna tubers than I need so be on the watch for a package when I get them from the co-op. I'd consider it a favor if you took them because I only bought them so the woman who set up the canna co-op didn't loose money from people who ordered them and then didn't pay. I'm not sure when they will arrive here, but when they do I'll get some off to you.

Lafayette, IN(Zone 5a)

Sounds good, I'll be watching! And thanks for thinking of me!

John......I have Vigilante sitting right here on my desk and it looks just like the one you have that was ID'd as Supreme Sultan. Check Vigilante out too!

Doodlebug, Sorry I'm so late answering you. We have been gone.
We went up to Missouri to get our daughter from school and just got back tonight. We came home through Dallas and went to Weston Garden's. I managed to get out of there with only La iris. If it weren't for all of her stuff in the truck, I would have gotten more. I don't think I have ever been to a nursery and gotten only plant--especially one like Weston's. They had a really good selection of daylillies and irises. We drove past Harker Heights too and I thought about you and your kaliche soil. It was too late to stop and talk even if I knew where you lived. We did stop and visit with Texmel on our way up to Missouri. We had a great time. She has a really wonderful back yard.
Texmel, we talked about your stream and pond and waterfalls all the way to Mo and back home. Seeing your yard gave us so much to think about, that I think now I can get Tom to go on some pond tours, probably in San Antonio. BTW we decided that your yard must be enchanted. That's why your rabbits don't eat everything in your yard and that's why your koi don't destroy your plants. Thanks, you're a great hostess!

Deb
We were at Snowpeak iris again, there we saw Mendy's unnamed iris. Looking at the tag it was called; Supreme Sultan.
Thanks for searching anyway.

(Zone 8b)

This is the last of my lost labels to flower, any clues anyone? It is about 22 ins tall.

That is a very pretty yellow okus! My yellow is reversed. White standards/pale yellow falls. and I'm not that partial to yellow anything! (except japanese iris and that's almost impossible!)

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

okus ck . out Joyce Terry
or not ?
I'm on stupid itch medicine and see double ;
SO I MAY BE QUITE OFF LOL

(Zone 8b)

I'm undecided Tazzy, Joyce Terry is very similar but has a deep orange tongue - mine is much yellower. I wondered about Wedding Dance, what do you think?

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

i will look for picture when I'm not in a drug haze . Well at least i don't itch anymore ?

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Tazzy--but are the drugs GOOD? Itching or drugged--interesting choices they're giving you....

Here is one that popped open this morning in my bed. it was sold to me as "Cherry Glen"--dark cherry it ain't! I'll try to get a better shot of the next blooms sans rain damage. It's big with a definite crepe texture, white center on fall & white tipped yellow beard. Very pale blue.

Any ideas?

Blues are so hard to photo and ID ?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Blues are hard to photo, I will say! I try to fix with Microsoft Picture It, but it never works, so I leave it.

I have a few coming up that are not what they are supposed to be too. Kind of disappointing, and I just add them to my 'unidentified' list. Question for the list, how many unidentified do you have? I have two so far this year. I love them, but would really like to know what they are because I am interested in who hybridized them and how old, etc.

I guess I am wondering how common it is to have an unidentified Iris when you were expecting something else.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Depends where you buy them and if Walker the Wonderdog has eaten the tags....

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Or if the roofers and G .kids having been playing move the tag or hide it from old woman .SORRY TO SAY I HAD MORE UNKNOWNS THEN NAMED THIS YEAR BUT TO HAVE AS MANY AS I DID AFTER HIRING WEEDERS LAST YEAR .AND KIDS AND ROOFERS THIS YEAR .
A true miracle any thing survived

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I don't let anyone in my family touch my flowerbeds for fear of major damage. Since my DH hates to trim & has been known to mow 12 inches INTO a bed, I do all the mowing too! When my great nieces & nephews come to play & get flower bouquets, I do the picking. One little guy pulled up a dwarf iris root & all! I can certainly sympathize with you Tazzy.

Come to think of it, If you hired ME to weed, I can guantee you that iris would go missing.... :)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Samson, my dear cat thinks his mission in life is to dig up my Iris markers. Never bothers the daylily marker, but he loves to send those Iris ones flying! One Iris I planted last fall became his personal outdoor potty. Poor thing, it got dug up and replanted a lot of times before I got smart enough to move it to a different location. Now I just have to wait and see if he follows it to it's new home. I have no idea what the Iris is named since it's marker seems to have disappeared completely. Here is the dear evil cat himself, trying to look innocent.

You can just see the personality coming out. I have 3 kitties. They can be a joy or a pain.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Its a cat thing ?
i had a cat years ago we renamed her ' iris killer' for the same reason .
Our present cat just like to touch every weed and flower i touch .
Them he leaves them alone .

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Now....you know that sweet looking little kitty wouldnt do such things...LOL

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

This one was given to me as Pra Cota. Any ideas if this is right? I can't find anything else by that name.

nothing in Ri books might be foreign and not reg, IN USA or name lost ?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

Tazzy~
My best guess on your iris would be "Westpointer" by Sutton. Does that name ring a bell? Larry Lauer came out with one a year or two ago that also looks similar to this one, but I can't for the life of me think of it's name.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm worried about Walker the Wonderdog. he goes outside several times a day to chase bunnies but hasn't broken any iris stalks off this year. Since he broke me a bouquet a day all last year and the year before, I fear something is worng. Do you suppose he grew a brain? Maybe me yelling "GET OUT OF MY FLOWERBEDS" has gotten thru to him?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

Wandasflowers~

LOL at your post! I can really relate! This year, (just before bloom, of course!) my dog got under the fence and dug up 10 of my newest IB's! As if that weren't enough, he chewed them to bits, so I couldn't even replant them! He's a Jack Russell Terrier and his name is Buddy. I was really mad, but he's so cute, I couldn't even punish him!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

Here's the guilty party!
