Tis the season

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Those are beautiful! The two tone one is my favorite.

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments. These beatuties are still in bloom. Here are some lilac colored ones, waiting for the watsonia to bloom.

PotEmUp,
Can you tell if these might be PCI? I have no idea. They could be a couple of other things. They are still blooming - but so are the Watsonia.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I do believe they are PCI. Looks just like mine. Maybe they are siblings?

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

They could very well be. Somehow I just really noticed them this year. They were growing behind a large ugly plant that I took out. Things are much nicer now although they are still a little hidden.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm bumping this thread from last year and adding my first PCI to the batch. I was inspired by this thread. This one is named 'Bubble Wrap' by Ghio.

They are small flowers but they make a big impact when a lot of them are blooming at the same time.

Drool ,now i remember I forgot to order seed last year .
Another year and i won't remember my name .
Thanks for bumping this thread back up!
they are so lovely to see.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Doss, what flowers DON'T you have??!?!?!?! By the way, Expose is doing wonderfully now, remember the granddogs had dug it up a few times? I may get some increases this summer. Thanks again my flower bud!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

doss~

The "bump" was well deserved! What fantastic pictures! I can't wait to add some of my own. I ordered about 20 of these last year and am expecting a few blooms this year...but mostly next year.

Laura

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

weegy. Great with that Expose. I do hope that it does increase for you. It was such a tiny thing. Good iris farming.

And Laura, my PCI are new too so I was actually surprised to see a bloom PotEmUp has been growing his for a much longer time.

Tazzy, I recommend Ghio's landscaper's special if you can get enough people together and if he's offering it this year. It was 50 plants for 55 dollars. Much easier and faster than seeds. I have only lost a very few too. They aren't named cultivars but that's AOK with me.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

they will only start from seed here we tried plants no go . but others have had suces with seeds .
Of course in my zone they are going to be annuals , i will settle for that !

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

It's amazing how different our climates are and how we all are here together anyway. Good luck with your seeds.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 7a)

PCI tend to only grow really well along the West Coast. I've heard of other people growing them, but like Tazzy said, they're usually grown as annuals.

I have a lot of trouble if I order mine from CA, even though they do grow well here. I always try to order mine from a source in WA state if possible.

I plan on ordering some from Leonine Iris this year:

http://www.leonineiris.com/

If nothing else, the site is worth looking at just to drool over the pictures!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

That is a lovely site alright. Thanks!

Kingsport, TN(Zone 6b)

Thanks Doss - I remember this thread last year too. And the frenzied looking around to find someone to buy some from and thats when I too discovered that living in humid wet and clay bound Tn., I would just be wasting my moola. WAAHHHHHH. They are truly the most spectacular iris I have ever seen. Then I discovered Louisianna iris which also have those fabulous color combos (but look a little different) and actually LIKE it around here lol! I will look forward to seeing those bloom but I do truly envy those of you who can grow Pacific Coast iris. Just have mercy on the rest of us and feed us more pictures!! LOL!

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I don't know how many photos I'll have as mine are all first year plants but I'll do my best. :-)
PotEmUP has at least one new photo. He may post after the taxes are all due. Any guess as to what he does to support his plant habit? LOL

I'm growing LAs for the first time this year and I'm thrilled to see what emergences. I have one flower stalk up even though I know that they are supposed to bloom after the TBI. Go figure.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Doss, did you tell them they are supposed to bloom after the TBI? Maybe they forgot or just don't know. LOL ;-)

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I forgot to tell them. Sometimes I just don't have the time to chat with all of my plants. :-)
I figure the new ones can do whatever they want until we know each other better. Don't quite have a relationship yet!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Doss, you are welcome to any of my LA's, they're starting to bloom now.
Here's a photo from last year...
edited to add: I have 20 different LA's! I don't know which one this picture is, forgot to add it when I downloaded the photos.

weegy~

Great pics! That last one looks like a Spuria. Is it?

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks weegy. They are gorgeous. I'm all full up though. I'll bet that you have other takers! I over did it at LAs last year, but then I always overdo it.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I keep trying to give you plants and you never want them, Doss!
How can you overdo irises???!?!?!!!? Never!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

FF, thanks for correcting me, yes it is a spuria. I edited that post! I had to look at the picture closer and noticed that it is actually a spuria, the neighbors' driveway is right behind it and I don't have mine near a driveway. (Can't get away with anything here can you!!?!?!?!?!)

Lafayette, IN(Zone 5a)

Well Weegy, I am always up for more iris! My mom has 7 acres so I can plant them there!

Deb

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Have to squeeze a few more daylilies, clematis, cannas, roses, lilies, weird foliage plants and ferns in. I'm determined. Not a single iris this year!
But you are so sweet weegy.
Now if I can just get the nursery to get some lemon button fern for me I'll be in good shape.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Weedgy;
Your first La.picture could be ( Clyde Redmond )
Dose that name ring a bell ?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

No, taz, I don't have Clyde Redmond!
Deb, my bud,I would be willing to share the LA's but don't know too much about them, I bought them for my mom who loves them, my specialty is TB's. I know they need more water than TB's and that's all about I know about them

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Here the scoop on growing beardless Iris.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Thanks Tazzy that's a great help. I owe you some LA's now!

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

So many plants, so little soil.
I hate to have unnamed varieties, so I just make up my own. This PCI is Lavender Mist.

Thanks! I'm so glad that you posted this beauty. And the name is just right.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Are these species iris douglasianas? I saw them in Pt. Reyes, CA in Feb.

More trivia:
Etymology: Iris= from Greek, for the goddess of the rainbow
In Greek mythology, Iris is the personified goddess of the rainbow. She is regarded as the messenger of the gods to mankind, and particularly of the goddess Hera whose orders she brought to humans. Iris is the daughter of Titan Thaumas and the nymph Electra. She is portrayed as a young woman with wings and her attributes are a herald's staff and a water pitcher. She appears mainly on Greek vases.

Here is a shot of how they are used in my city, as a landscape plant. Although a bit hard to see at 35+ mph, I enjoy them.

Potemup, I hope you weren't driving! Those are very nice pics.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Why they are just little opportunistic weeds! And here I'm babying mine. Think that's why all of them didn't make it? LOL
