Lovely Tazzy! I agree it looks like some cross hybridization of iris for sure.
Arilbred Irises - are beauties too!
Oh!!! That Emerald Fantasy is gorgeous!
Joan................it has to my favorite. It is so unusual - so dramatic. I almost lost it last year (growing it on top of a tree root nearly killed it.) I've got to find a new area for it to grow.
I'm happy happy happy! Thanks Margie. These are beautiful.
HI Dorothie,
Thank you, and you are so welcome. These irises are so exotic................. I simply love them. I'll see if I can find any more AB photos tomorrow. I may have a few more in another location.
I hope if there are others out there who have Arilbred photos - that they will share them too.

Neil, how do you grow the arilbreds in TN? I thought they needed bone dry summers to be successful. That is why I haven't tried them here in Ohio. I would love to grow them. I think they are stunning but I thought they would rot due to our summer downpours.
I got several in a trade from Knoxville two years ago just to see how they'd do. They've done great here and I've just ordered more this year from Malevil Iris.
I think they like it here because when they are dormant in late July and August and early September, we are extremely hot and dry (unbearable humidity, but dry). They are also planted on a slope, so if it does rain, most of the water runs off and the soil dries out quickly.
Why not give some a try in Ohio? Maybe in a raised bed that would drain quickly? Might become a whole new obsession.....
Neil
I have just a couple of arilbreds but they are on my sprinkler system and do fine. It's not humid though. I don't know if that makes a difference.
Neil, you make it sound very tempting. My neighbor has an 18' x 18' raised bed that he is letting me use for dahlias. It might work for the arilbreds.
My yard wouldn't work at all - it is heavy clay that gets waterlogged when it rains a lot. The yard is so low I would have to raise the beds about 18" to get above soggy ground. Right now they are filled with water tolerant plants like Japanese Iris.
I am surprised to hear that you are very dry in July and August. July is usually the wettest month here thanks to the summer thunderstorms. August and September can be dry but there are no guarantees. LOL
found name of my AB in uppper post it was
JALIB
i have edited it with name
Neil, Lindis is quite attractive! Glad to hear they grow in Nashville. Our summers during the monsoon months are very humid and wet, but the AB's seem to do fine with that. Do you own any others?
Belinda, it loks as if you made good choices. From what Neil is saying you just may be able to grow them pretty well there. What a treat that will be! :-) I've heard people say that when they gave their arilbreds special treatment they almost died. But once they just decided to treat them like TB's - they grew very well. Drainage (and not way too much water) may be the key - especially since some grow as far north as Canada. I wish you well with your AB's - let us know how they do and how you care for them.

Tazzy - - so glad you found the name of that arilbred. Is it yours?
Doss, I'm not sure how much of a role humidity plays either. We know they can handle dry conditions just fine, but apparently they may be able to tolerate a certain amount of humidity too, (as well as some water)
I did find a few more arilbred photos in another folder I had.
Cool Kisses
Wow, that Close Contact is to die for!
Noh2o - yes, isn't that coloring just gorgeous? I photographed that one while I was in Phoenix last spring. It's on my "want list".
I'm going through more folders later to see what other AB photos I may have. And one has just opened up outside today. I'm going to grab a photo of that one too.

I am really enjoying this thread. I remember seeing it last year as well. I don't have much luck with Arilbreds, so it's great to see all of your beauties!
picture is from show last year not mine
but i bought at our sale
and killed it between Oct and now .
Am i good or what ?
My motto is always buy one i havent killed yet ?
LOL the more i like them the deader they get
Laura, that is how it is with me............ and Siberians, or Pacific coast iris. No matter how hard I try they just won't grow. They always seem to die before they even have a chance to bloom. Sad really. I'm glad there are others that I CAN grow. :-)
Tazzy - - you are so funny! LOL I love your motto. :-)

If you'd like to view some other arilbred photos see this link. (it's a 2002 site so I don't know if you can order from him or not) But there is quite a few to look at.

Thank you for bumping this thread back to the top! I'm thrilled with the varieties, colors, & veining! Is "veining" or "striations" the proper words to describe the beautiful lines found in some of these Irises? They are absolutely captivating!
Also, thanks for all the links. I've got to go check them out!
Shirley, you'll feel like you are in a candy store - with all the varieties you'll see. Have fun!
