Comments regarding Oakes Daylilies

I ordered daylilies from Songsparrow, Roycroft and Oakes. All were acceptable - but only the Oakes delivered large clumps of plants rather than single or double fans - unexpectedlyrobust and generous.

I ordered several daylilies last year and they were all very large. Larger in fact than the ones from the garden center. All bloomed nicely last year and are outperforming daylilies bought the previous year from the nursery. They also included a large bonus plant which was a pleasant surprise. I was very pleased with this company and will order from them in the future.

Excellent. No single or double fans. I received several small clumps and a bonus plant that is similar to what I had ordered. All healthy. Not the lastest and greatest cultivars but definitely worth every penny.

I was very pleased with the quality and size of the daylilies I ordered this spring. They were healthy and fresh and each plant was about 8 fans. I ordered two plants and they gave me a third as a bonus. It was as big as the others. (They asked me to suggest possible bonus plants and they gave me the one I asked for.) The plants are all growing well so far.

Their website is well laid out - you can search by flower color, pattern, fragrance etc. The only thing I would have liked that they didn't do was send an e-mail to tell me when they mailed my daylilies to me.

I ordered from Oakes for the first time last spring. I just could not believe my eyes when the plants arrived. They were huge, looked freshly dug, and packed well. They have since gone on to thrive, and bloomed beautifully last year. And, although my order was small, I received some nice bonuses. If it weren't for the deer, I would be ordering a ton more daylilies from them.

I ordered from Oakes last spring. My order was a little slow in arriving, but the plant sizes were phenomenal, up to 9 fans! I was able to divide all my plants and share with a friend. Also-they arrived in excellent condition. They also sent 2 bonus plants. Most of my order bloomed last summer. I will order from them again.

I ordered a dozen daylilies from them, 3 each of 4 different varieties. Everything arrived promptly and in great condition. They were very large, at least 5 times bigger than the ones I got last year from White Flower Farms.

I also got a couple of extra "bonus" plants, and it may have been coincidence, but they were in the same color family as the ones I had ordered, which was great.

Oakes has a greater variety of daylilies than any other site I found, grouped by color or by feature, and the ones I ordered were among their cheapest (about $5 per plant).

Great company! Big, healthy fans. One even bloomed after only 3 weeks! One lily died and was immediately replaced, no questions or hassles. Will definately order again and again!

I love Oakes. The daylilies come in large, healthy fans. The people at Oakes are friendly in person and on the phone. They send orders in a very timely manner, usually within a week.

They send huge clumps instead of just fans, that can be divided. Mine have always bloomed the first year and been true to name. They ship exactly when you want and were in excellent shape when they arrived.

Oakes has wonderful catalogues and a well-organized web site. I have ordered four times in the past 18 months and have had no disappointments. The divisions are large and most bloom the first year. They are quick and always put in a bonus plant -- it's always fun to figure out where to put it.

I only discovered this company last year and since have ordered several times. They are a wonderful
company to buy from - plants they ship are always huge and in good condition upon arrival. All of
mine have bloomed the first year. And, best of all, they send you a free daylily with every order! And
they don't send skimpy ones - they are always as large as the rest.

I love this company! Divisions are very large, most bloom in the same year. They arrive fresh and well packed. Service is excellent. Pricing is excellent. I paid more for much smaller plants with other companies before discovering Oakes. Have ordered several years in a row and they remain consistent. Will continue to order for years to come.

This is a wonderful company! I have ordered many daylilies from them. They give you large healthy clumps and are priced very reasonably. They also have a festival every year when most of the display daylilies are in bloom. Acres of blooming daylilies - A very beautiful site!

Excellent company. They always send large clumps of daylilies. The plants are dug just before shipping and they have a good guarantee. I've never lost one of theirs. They have an open house in June and give you a free daylily just for stopping by.

This year I placed my first order with Oakes Daylilies to replace some ho-hum varieties I had mothered along from el cheapo sources. The plants they sent were HUMONGOUS. If I was a real tightwad, I could have divided up some into 3 groups of 3 fans each. The fans were still green and roots were freshly dug, clean, and still moist - no drying out problems here. The folks at Oakes are great to deal with and answer all your questions. On my first order of about $125, I received two huge, bonus daylilies that went with the color schemes I had ordered. The company had also checked with a Colorado daylily society before sending the bonus SEV, since I had ordered only dormants, to make certain it would grow in my area. Now I'm trying to place another order even though they don't like to ship plants this late in the season. Next year, I can't wait to start replacing the rest of my daylilies with more stunning specimens. Their web site, with beautiful photos and extensive information on each type, has many more offerings than their nice color catalog.A real bonus is their location near Knoxville, TN. They offer a colorful "Orange Vols" dormant daylily for U.T. grads, like my husband. I also ordered the "Wilson Spider" just for him. It's amazing how far a little loving creativity will go to encourage my chief digger.After receiving daylilies from Oakes Daylilies, I won't ever consider buying the puny ones in the boxes at the Big Box stores ($3-6 each for a measly root) or from nurseries($9 and up for a single fan in a pot). Oakes' prices for their quality, size, and unique plants is a great deal; shipping is also reasonable.[update]Oakes is another A++++ company! On my first order, I was so impressed with the immense fans (4-6) of daylily sent, and the exquisitely-chosen bonus plants that were not only selected to go with the colors I had ordered as well as my climate zone (they actually verified that a SEV was listed as by a Colorado daylily society as suitable for Denver), that I placed a second order. They didn't want to ship me daylilies to my zone so late in the year (October), but I persisted. If I can grow the crummy things from other sources, I won't manage to kill theirs. They have a nice color catalog and many more varieties online with excellent photos to drool over, daylily plant descriptions, and great planting instructions. Their staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable on the phone. Their daylilies are "guaranteed for life". Oakes is another great source for unique, huge, healthy, high-quality plants as well as the old stand-bys.

This company does a superlative job mailing daylilies. I have ordered 4 times over three years. Every time I got generous plants. In my last order the tubers were so generous I ended up with several more plants that I had planned for! Every single plant is thriving. I cannot say enough about these folks from Tennessee!

I would like to add my recommendations to those praising Oakes Daylilies. I couldn't believe the size of the plants I ordered. My mouth flew open in astonishment. Never will I buy daylilies from anyone else. I am moved to express my admiration to them personally.

I just wanted to add my comments on Oakes - I ordered from them for the first time at the beginning of April and received my plants in about two weeks. I was delighted with the plants - they were huge, wonderful plants that started growing immediately, and today, I had my first bloom! I found Oakes by reviewing this website and I am so happy with the quality and size of their plants, I will order daylilies from them in the future. I can't express how happy I am with their product!

Placed a recent order with Oakes. I was very pleased, the plants were huge and healthy. They even included a bonus plant that was equal in quality. I would order from them again.

The daylilies I received from Oakes were enormous, root masses easily 5' across. I was astounded when I opened the Oakes box and saw these massive plants. The internet offers so many possible sources. It really pays to shop around.

Oakes Daylilies way surpassed my expectations for daylilies. They are dry tubers, but the clumps of tubers are as big as my fist. I can't wait to see them this spring. I feel they probably spoiled me for daylilies.

This company offers wonderful quality roots at a reasonable price. They have never failed to send healthy stock that usually blooms the first year. I recommend them highly.

I ordered three daylily plants from Oakes daylilies in August for the first time and their plants were HUGE and HEALTHY!! I plan to order more from them in the Spring since I am assured of their quality. Very courteous service - gave me advice about planting for my Zone 6 - and a nice HUGE bonus plant to boot!

I agree with comments of others. My plants arrived the end of March 1997 and as of the second week of June 1997 almost all have bloomed. The plants were all very healthy and some have had six scapes.

Last year (1996), I placed an order with Oakes Daylilies. I was so impressed with the plants I received that I placed another order with them. The quality of their plants is superb! This year, I have been thumbing through their catalogs deciding what I WILL get from them this year. Oakes Daylilies is a great company to do business with. I hope that this helps get them more business.

I ordered from Oakes last spring and was very happy with the daylilies, which were quite large and very healthy. The best thing was they shipped them to me in early March, something other companies are not willing to do. Since I am in California, its really best for me to get them in the ground early as it can be quite hot in April. I will order from them again!

I live nearby, so I order and pick up my plants at the garden. Very generous plants. Very accommodating service and nice people. Also a beautiful place to visit.

Spring '96 was the first order from Oakes. Shipment was received at the specified time for planting and in excellent condition. Plants were healthy and generous in the number of fans per plant. You can specify on your order which bonus plants you would like to receive. Full color retail catalog is great but don't forget to request their Collector's Catalog which has no illustrations but lists about 900 other cultivars available.

Only daylilies but wonderful huge (3-6 fan divisions) plants - very healthy and only one hasn't bloomed the first year. They also do bonus plants. I can't say enough wonderful things about them.
