Comments regarding Oakes Daylilies

I ordered a beginners collection of daylilies around the middle of May. Received order about a week later(planted on May 26th), and couldn't believe how many fans came with which plant (5-6). Went out this morning for weeding duty and noticed that the plants have flower shoots. I will definitely order from here again.

Amazing--They're just enormous. I ordered three each of a few varieties, all in the lower-end price range. When the box arrived, I pulled out the first two and started trying to divide them, thinking they were bundles of all three!

Recieved large, healthy divisions; all have numerous flowerbuds at this time. This is DEFINITELY the place to order daylilies. All other mail order nurseries could learn from Oakes. GREAT JOB!!!

Oakes is in a class by itself among providers of mail order plants of any kind. Customer service, plant quality and size of divisions (huge! 4 or 5 fans not unusual) are incomparable. I have ordered some beautiful daylilies from other sources (Bloomingfields has notoriously small divisions, for example; Olalie is a good source if you don't find what you are looking for at Oakes) Oakes "Bonus Plants" are huge, excellent varieties. Oakes always seems to look at my order and choose bonus plants that fit with the color scheme of the bed I'm ordering for.

I have just received an order of daylilies in which I was thrilled at the size of the root bunch. I guess I was expecting a twig like alot of some other places......I will definately re-order again.

I just received my daylilies and was shocked by how big, healthy, and how many lily fans were sent per plant! The plants arrived when I was told they would and look great, I've very excited to find Oakes. Great company to buy from :D

WOW! That was my first reaction to my order when I opened the box. My second reaction was there was a mistake, because ther was what seemed to be too much in the box for what I had ordered! But, it was no mistake- their plants are that large. After reading some of the other reviews, I had expected a free daylily fan of some sort- not a fan, three clumps, yes clumps, and three no less, is what I recieved from Oakes! This was my first time ordering from this company and thru Dave's I've had good luck with other top 30 companies. This has been one of the best orders I have recieved, ever! Highly recommended!!

I decided to order about 20 daylilies from Oakes after reading all the comments here about the bigger plants. To be honest, after shopping around, I found that Oakes' prices were only about $2.00 more than everyone else and thought the bigger plants were worth it. I got my order and was not diappointed. These plants are HUGE!! Some of them had five or more phans, huge root systems (over 4 inches long) and have grown a couple of inches in only a week. Of the 20, I only have one that still looks yellowish, but I hope it will start developing new growth soon. Very pleased with the service and quality of plants I received and would not hesitate to do business with them again. If you want spectacular daylilies, this is the ONLY place to get them!!

I have ordered daylilies from many companies over the years. The order I received today blew me away. The plants were huge! They have a lot of fat healthy roots and many fan sprouts. They survived the trip great. I won't get my daylilies from anywhere else...between the selection, service and quality of plants, why would I? Outstanding.

I ordered their pack of 10 Select Mixed Daylilies last month. They sent 12, because they always include bonus plants.

These plants all had 4-6 fans each!!! A few of the 6-fan divisions fell apart, so I actually had 16 good-sized plants. They were all so fresh, the remaining foliage hadn't even wilted.

I will definitely order from them again.

My first attempt at mail order daylilies and I had great results. I paid more than normal but I got better than normal so it was well worth it. Only one plant has not come up this year but it's still early. I am fixing to place my second order with them. I would recommend this company and have to others.

I just received my first order of daylilies from Oakes and I am amazed by their size! All are huge and healthy looking and were packed very well. Oakes' plants are more expensive than those from other companies (two to three times more for some of the more popular varieties), but they are also two to three times bigger than any daylily I've ever ordered before and look like they're ready to bloom right out of the box. I'll be ordering from them again.

This was my first time ordering from Oakes Daylilies. The plants were large, beautiful, and well packed. The selection from which to order was extensive, and well catagorized by awards, flower and plant size, as well as special characteristics like fragrance. The lifetime guarantee on plants is surpassed by none. The bonus plants were much appreciated. I will be ordering from this company again.

I placed two orders with this company last year and was wowed with the quality of the plants! The fans were all huge, healthy and fresh - it was very obvious that they had been recently dug. All 40 plants quickly developed new growth shortly after planting and bloomed the first season! That's truly amazing when you consider that the daylilies that you purchase at the big box stores never bloom the first year and cost almost as much.

I was also please by the free extra daylilies that Oakes through in with my order (they do that for every order). Even the free daylilies had generous fans and looked great.

Got my order the other day, and I was happy I took the time to read the watchdog. Yes, this is a good company. Some of the selections appear to be priced 25-50% higher than comparable sites, but the daylilies are a very large and healthy clump for the most part--but best of all they are GUARANTEED FOR LIFE~~~can't find that just everywhere. Would I order again, yes. The customer service was good, the plants-good, the price-ok, and the warranty-wonderful.This is a case of you get what you pay for. Only problem is the selection is limited, hope they improve on it.

If you desire daylilies ... Oakes Daylilies is the ONLY place to purchase. Healthy, well packaged plants ... I planted them in mid September, and two weeks later one is trying to bloom! Save yourself some grief ... pay $2 more for the plant and get top quality product.

I had given up on daylilies because the one I bought never bloomed again. Thanks to Watchdog and Fine Gardening magazine I emailed Oakes and talked to Jennifer. She explained that the proper daylily for Central Florida was the evergreen variety. I placed an order and quickly received huge clumps, including bonus plants. This planting was in the middle of summer 2003. In 2004 my area of Florida was hit by three hurricanes. I had planted one of the daylilies in a bed in which three enormous and dangerous pines were later taken down to safeguard my house. Despite the tremendous stress to the ground surrounding the trees, including the trees themselves as they were being felled, the daylily is coming back. The stress included the (eventual) lack of water, since one tree lost during the first storm took out my sprinkler system. As for the daylilies in other places of the landscape, I enjoy six weeks of gorgeous displays in May-June, and since I bought rebloomers, they rest during July and then give another gorgeous display.

This is an incredible company! I ordered 25 different daylilies (3 of each) and all have performed incredibly the first year! The size of the plants was amazing. They said that you would have I believe at least 3 fans on each lily. Most of mine had 5 fans and some had 8! They have gorgeous blooms that match the pictures perfectly and I just can't say enough about how pleased I am. I placed two orders this year and will definitely be ordering from them again.

I ordered a dozen daylilies in spring, to arrive mid-April. They arrive right on time, with a nice bonus plant, however, the very day they arrived we got a freak April snowstorm with almost a foot of snow, and below freezing temps. I called Oakes and asked for advice, and they gave me very good advice for the short term, although no one could have predicted that (1) we couldn't even plant them in the ground for almost two weeks due to the weather; (2) per Oakes' advice, we placed them in dirt in large plastic containers that we had to keep in the garage (which is the only place we had room for them, they were HUGE), and the heating was totally inadequate, to say the least; and (3) our barn cats decided these tubs of dirt made wonderful litterboxes and continually did their business in them and dug them up repeatedly. Once we were finally able to plant, I expected maybe a couple to survive, if that, through no fault of Oakes, but SURPRISE - every singe one of them has not only survived, they've all thrived and flowered (but for one, the stubborn thing) and I've even gotten rebloom on one already. What more can I say - Oakes daylilies are tough and resiliant, they are the very best. I won't buy daylilies anywhere else.

After reading other customer ratings and getting a recommendation from a day lily enthusiast friend, I chose this company to order my mother's annual spring gift of plants. They arrived exactly when promised, were HUGE and in perfect "just dug that morning" condition. Definitely a sucessful gift! The only problem was chosing from among their huge number of varieties, each so lovingly photographed.

Although technically purchased through Paradise Gardens, my daylilies came from Oakes. I just wanted to add to the positive feedback the company has received by stating how impressed I am with their daylilies. I received huge, healthy plants a little over a month ago, and all but one variety have already bloomed! That variety, So Lovely, is a later bloomer than the others, and the plant, healthy and growing well, has two flower scapes on it, so it will also bloom its first season in my garden. As a newbie to Daylilies, I am certain that I could not have chosen a better place to start.

I won't spoil their record! Extra large fans on most. The ones they must have considered "smaller" were compensated with six extra plants plus a $20 bonus daylily. They are a bit pricey, but if you shop carefully you can get alot of bang for your buck! If you're looking for the ordinary or the extraordinary this is the place to shop. There shipping charges were more reasonable than most also. Will be ordering from them again.

I know that Oakes doesn't need my comment. If you are not convinced by the 100% rating, what more do you need? However, I just feel that I have to express how surprised I was when I received the package. First of all, I called it in, as I had a special request on the timing of the arrival. I had a short 5 day window in mind, because a family member could help me during those days (I am disabled). And I told them if it came earlier, that would be OK, but late would be a problem. Darned if the pkg. didn't arrive the night before my sister got in town. They were big and beautiful! A couple of the cultivars were more expensive than I could have gotten elsewhere, but when I realized that all of the plants had at least 3 large fans, and some had as many as 6, I had no concern about the price. And some of the plants were as little as $5, so even on a strict budget you can get great daylilies from the best!

Got what I ordered, big healthy plants.

Buying these bare-root plants is NOT like going to the local store and buying one of those "box of 10 daylilies". These plants are MUCH bigger - maybe 3-5 times the size. The superstore box of plants may be cheaper per plant, but not if you divide the plants from Oakes when you get them - then it's about the same, but the ones from Oakes are healthier. If I need more daylilies, even if it's for a large area, I'd order here again and skip the superstore "bulk bargains".

I've ordered several years from this company and always had excellent experiences. Huge plants, healthy, well-packed, and nice bonuses (one year I ordered several Munsons -- they must have noticed it and sent a Munson as a bonus.) Very professional outfit.

WOW!!! We just got our order, and I have never been so suprised by the SIZE of the plants...and they must know what bouns plant to give,,, it seems we were doing a pink daylilly theme and our suprised bouns plants fit in witht the color theme....great company ...... have recommended this company to many of my customers,,, I do lawn care and I meet many fellow gardens when I'm working.....

I ordered daylilies from several companies this Spring, and Oakes were by far the biggest and the healthiest. Where the other companies had tiny tiny dried roots Oakes were loaded with tubers and healthy moist roots.They were niecely packaged and labeled. They arrived at a perfect time for planting in my area. I am so impressed and will order from them again!
