My experience was AWESOME. I ordered during a sale and still received a % off code for signing up for emails. One plant was not available when it came time to ship (I had ordered some time in advance), but I was offered very acceptable alternatives. Emails are nearly always answered very quickly (and always so if I have a true question--I do tend to be a bit chatty). |
Positive | smcatl (2 reviews) | On Aug 8, 2015, smcatl Blue Hill, ME (Zone 5b) wrote: Santa Rosa Gardens is extraordinary. Their customer service is prompt, their packaging is great, their shipping is precise and prompt. Everything I've ever ordered from them has thrived, far outstripping plants I've ordered from other mail order nurseries. Even the clearance plants I ordered and planted in mid-July (in Atlanta, no less) perked right up and look great now. I may stop ordering from anybody else! |
Positive | 1lolita1 (9 reviews) | On Jul 20, 2015, 1lolita1 Elgin, IL wrote: Highly recommend this nursery. Good prices and excellent sales prices. Plants arrived in stretchy mesh sleeves that held them all in their pots nicely, and then each was wrapped in several layers of brown paper for added support. And the paper had vents for air circulation. Excellent communication, even though I was confused and probably aggravated the beans out of them lol! They emailed me a discount coupon to cover the difference of a pricey plant that went on sale right after I bought it, but I felt it was only fair to decline it since by that time they were probably ready to scream from frustration with me lol! (As an added plus, I ended up with a whole bunch of mesh sleeves that I can use to bag my bar soaps. I usually use the netting from bags of fruit, it makes a great exfoliator & quickly produces tons of suds. But these are so much more sturdy & a bit softer. And of course, I used the brown paper as a weed barrier when I planted my new babies. Probably the most usefull packing I've ever run across!) |
Positive | randibear (3 reviews) | On Jun 26, 2015, randibear Deerfield, MA wrote: I ordered 35 perennial plants on 6/23/15 and received them on 6/26/15 all in perfect condition. Each plant was meticulously placed in a heavy net covering and then was wrapped in heavy cushioned brown paper and came damp. Plants on the bottom were as perfect as the ones on top. I got these on sale at a great deal and they were substantial plants They came in 3 1/2 inch square pots with plenty of soil which the netting keeps in the pots. I would highly recommend this company for plants as their size is decent and their shipping method is very protective and prevents damage in shipping. Very, very happy. Thanks! Randi |
Positive | GreyMamma (1 review) | On Jun 11, 2015, GreyMamma Fairport, NY wrote: I've ordered and have been very pleased with Santa Rosa in the past. This last order I did have a problem however. The plants were very wet, (I was told they had dealt with a lot of rain which was true and forgivable), and one plant was suffering terribly. It had lost most leaves and what was left were yellow. They were very quick to offer a replacement and even sent a free gift plant as well. The replacement and gift plant were in very good shape. The Bell Flower was even in bloom. Not the largest plants I've received from them, (although the two lewisias were larger than my local nurseries offered and beautiful!) but I'm very pleased. I'll definitely order from them again. |
Positive | Wiesendangen (2 reviews) | On Jun 1, 2015, Wiesendangen Blairstown, NJ wrote: Love this company! Great costumer relations person, always answers email promptly. I have ordered from them several times, plants always arrived in good shape and took in my garden. If the plants are small, they are held back with a notification. My favorite thing however is the Bargain Box! Never yet failed to delight me. |
Positive | narina77 (6 reviews) | On May 29, 2015, narina77 Blairstown, NJ wrote: I placed two large orders on faith just by the positive reviews here and I was not dissapointed. Everything was large and healthy. I got their bargain boxes (shade and perennial) and they gave me very nice selections (chelone, heucheras, coreopsis, hibiscus, brunnera, hellebores and more that I can't recall right now). They have great coupons and free shipping for larger orders. As a result I have ordered hundreds of dollars worth since. Their prices are usually the cheapest and their plant sizes are bigger than other nurseries. I'm definitely a customer for life! |
Positive | whhdrsg (1 review) | On May 11, 2015, whhdrsg Wilmington, DE wrote: My first order (found them on a garden blog "An Obsessive Neurotic Gardener") and can't say enough about this organization! The plants I ordered were very healthy, a good size, well packed and shipped. I was a little worried about the flat rate longer shipping (cheap me), but they arrived in virtually perfect condition. Careful unwrapping (love the stocking-netting!) and a little water and they are just fine, waiting for just a few more days to condition from Florida to Maine on the covered front porch . . . I WILL be ordering again! |
Positive | saradus (20 reviews) | On Apr 30, 2015, saradus Maple Park, IL wrote: I love Santa Rosa Gardens, so much! I've placed several orders with them over the past two years, some super large and some small. The plants are consistently healthy and well packaged. Santa Rosa Gardens also offers a wide variety of perennials and grasses, and frequently offers coupons and specials. I've been able to try many new plants because of the affordability. Super pleased! Would be delighted if they would start to offer more shrubs. |

Positive | MWilliams87 (2 reviews) | On Nov 10, 2014, MWilliams87 Chapel Hill, NC wrote: I can say nothing but good things about Santa Rosa Gardens. I've ordered butterfly bush, ornamental grasses, black eyed susans, and lavenders from SRG. The plants are outstanding and arrive very healthy looking. The packaging is phenomenal, easily the best packaging I've ever seen from a online nursery. Each plant is individually placed a net sock, to keep the soil from spilling out all over then box, and then wrapped in paper. The fall clearance prices are an absolute steal! At $5 flat rate 2 day shipping... just can't be beat. |

Positive | valal (7 reviews) | On Oct 9, 2014, valal Natick, MA wrote: I probably would have hesitated to order from Santa Rosa Gardens because I am on the upper East Coast, figuring transit was too far for plants to go by Ground transit, had it not been for a fellow-DG'er who highly recommended them and they were having a fall sale. I ordered 15 plants at really reasonable prices and saw on their website they plainly display what size their plants are (and how they are packed). |

Email communication on the status of my order was excellent and they quickly refunded me for an item that was not longer in stock...after giving me the option of waiting until Spring when more would be available. My order arrived quickly and the plants were in great condition...not only because they clearly had been well taken care of before shipping but because each plant had a mesh stocking and wrapping of paper that protected it in transit. This was my first transaction with their company and I was very impressed. Thank You! |

The Sedum, Autumn Joy, is even going to bloom! I especially like the fact that when you get ready to order, the website shows you how many of each plant are available. Too, this time I said to ship ASAP, and they emailed me with the ship date, so I could mark my calendar. And with each shipment, the plants arrived a day or two sooner than expected. |

I love this company, when you see the plants you just want to order more, so I did, two more times. The plants were healthy, large and arrived in great shape. I'm working on a small prairie and their great selection of affordable native grasses is helping make this possible as they naturalize in my landscape. Along with the fall sale plants, I pre-ordered 'Red October' Big Bluestem, seems SRG is the only online place who is selling it, I can't wait to see it color up next fall. I can't say enough about their packing, the ease of ordering, clarity of your order status, the quality of plants and the fun it is to place the order and receive those wonderful big white boxes of healthy plants at such unbelievably reasonable prices. What a great and reliable company! |

I have ordered several times from them now, the first time just a few months ago, and every time has been a wonderful experience. In fact, I am going to have to fuss at them for making me spend so much money! LOL They keep sending me these coupons, and I cannot resist! Seriously, everything is packed wonderfully, the plants look great and healthy, the prices are more than reasonable, and the shipping prices are more than fair. I just can't say enough great things about his company. |
Positive | Old_Gardener (38 reviews) | On Aug 14, 2014, Old_Gardener Calabasas, CA wrote: Posted on June 28, 2013, updated August 14, 2014 On October 4th, 2012, Old_Gardener added the following: I placed an autumn order and received it last week. Every plant has a robust root system and all looked great except for one Gaillardia who did not travel as well as its companions. I emailed Jude on arrival and was immediately offered a replacement. I requested a few days, however, to watch this particular plant. I am happy to say that I emailed Jude this evening cancelling the replacement as the Gaillardia has fully rebounded and now looks as good everyone else (healthy roots = healthy plants). I have already placed another order due to ship on Monday. Great plants at great prices coupled with quick, responsive customer service make SRG a gem of a nursery! On October 12th, 2012, Old_Gardener added the following: I received the next order and, as before, every plant looks great! The plants that I received two weeks ago have all transitioned well in my garden, are rapidly putting on size, and many are sending up buds. Santa Rosa is fantastic!! On November 2nd, 2012, Old_Gardener added the following: I placed another order earlier this week that arrived today. Although it is late in the season and I purchased sale plants, each and every plant looks fantastic - truly an exceptional delivery. I cannot recommend Santa Rosa highly enough - I will definitely place more orders with them in the future. Also, the plants I received 3 weeks ago have not only settled in, but they have grown considerably (doubled in size or more) and at least half are blooming! Thanks, Santa Rosa, for offering such healthy, robust plants at great prices and thank you, Jude, for always keeping me up to date on the status of my order and getting back to me so quickly whenever I have had a question. On March 9th, 2013, Old_Gardener added the following: I placed an order for 24 plants on 2/1 for early spring/March shipping. The plants were shipped last Monday or Tuesday (I received a ship notice on both days - perhaps it is due to there being 2 boxes shipped?) and I received them on Thursday. UPS left my boxes in the middle of a shared driveway (not at my house), the smaller box was upside down, and the plants in the smaller box appeared to have suffered a difficult ride (1 was even out of its pot). Thankfully, SRG had wrapped and packed the plants well and all 21 plants arrived green and moist. I did email Jude just in case the upended plants go into shock and she emailed me back immediately - thank you, Jude, you are fantastic - but, as of last night, they were all resting comfortably in the greenhouse. I was notified on Tuesday (after shipping) that 3 of the 24 plants were on backorder (hence, receiving 21) and I only wish they had notified me prior to shipping so that I could have substituted similar cultivars that are in stock for the ones that were not ready yet. Still, a very positive review and I have already placed another order to fill in another section of garden. Santa Rosa Garden has great prices, fantastic customer service (Jude is the best), and packaging that survives the perils of shipping. All of the plants that I have received have, without fail, been well-rooted and healthy. Truly 10 stars! Oh, and many of the perennials that I purchased late last year from SRG are already huge - no sleep, creep and leap for them! Again, a fantastic nursery to do business with!! On March 15th, 2013, Old_Gardener added the following: I received another order today. As always, everything was well-packed and the plants look great! On June 28th, 2013, Old_Gardener added the following: I received another order mid-June and am expecting my final Spring/Summer order for this year today. As before, the previous order was absolutely lovely out of the box (I emailed with a question about one plant and received a response from Jude within an hour or so - no issue with the plant). Between this nursery and one other (each carry a very different selection of plants), I have been able to re-do much of the front yard and am halfway through the back - and at a very reasonable cost. Thanks, SRG, for the great quality and customer service! You are always the first place I look, now, when shopping for perennials. I'll be ordering more come autumn. On August 14th, 2014, Old_Gardener added the following: Over the past year, I have placed several more orders as their site and their plants are quite addictive. Although there have been a couple of very minor bumps in the road (a couple of Leptinellas did not ship well, some ants hopped in for a ride mid-way down the route, and some plants were not available to ship), Jude has been there every step of the way. In all fairness to SRG, I read that another, unrelated vendor had the same ant issue at the same time. It turned out that a package depot mid-route had an ant problem and the ants were moving their nests about - definitely not SRG's fault!. In terms of the bamboo shortage, I ordered all of the plants left in stock and I appreciate the fact that they notified me that a couple of the lot were not available. This allowed me time to make a substitution - thank you, Jude! In terms of the Leptinella, Jude offered to refund (which I declined as they were still showing some life) and she also gave me some helpful tips in regard to them. As of today, I could not be happier with the results - the Leptinella have rebounded and I learned some things along the way. My last few orders with SRG have been rather large and extensive (multiple, multiple boxes - I feel guilty that I paid so little in shipping - and so little for the plants as I caught their end-of-spring sale) and Santa Rosa Gardens has done an exemplary job in filling them. Jude, you and SRG are the best! Thank you so much for all of the time that you have spent helping me and all the wonderful advice. I will definitely be ordering again! |

I had been 'burned' by less than stellar sites for gardens over the past several years and, honestly, expected nothing else after all this time. However, this company, Santa Rosa Gardens, is the BEST! I recently purchased 8 plants from them at their 'end of the season' sale. Normally, at the end of the season sale it would not be terribly surprising to receive some plants which did not live up to hopes and expectations. Not the case here! All of my plants (coneflowers) were healthy, well packed and received with explicit instructions for planting and future care. Although I am a long time gardener and did not need the instructions, I looked them over and any person new to gardening would be happy to receive such well written and explicit instructions. Excellent service as I add plants to existing orders within days of shipping and they always come thru. Will continue to purchase from this company for my all my gardens. I also ordered from a competitor, who shall remain nameless at this time, and received sub standard Phlox Panaculata, yellowing Filipendula, panicum grass with dried out soil as well as soil all over inside the box, my free mystery plants were in better shape in my order than the ones I paid for. I will start using SRG more and the competitor much less. On September 16th, 2011, plantgnome1 added the following: Well its September again and S.R.G fall sale is on-I purchased as many plants as I could afford (and have room for) and added some right before shipping and they came thru again. I am refurbishing the gardens at my daughters house and needed to purchase many items, so this sale is perfect for me. Their customer service is the best, friendly helpful and they let me know when certain plants are not available in enough time to order something else in their place. This year-even with the hurricane, 99% of their plants did not even get damaged because of strong root systems.Yes some plants arrive small, but in my experience these plants caught up to the others within a month with proper planting and feeding (I plant all new arrivals with Biotone starter). I never received a dead plant from them yet. I read the few negatives and some people really complain about everything-I guess you can't make 100% of the people happy all the time. Oh well, more plants for me! On August 18th, 2012, plantgnome1 added the following: Still one of my favorite companies for me and I order from several different companies every year. They make good on any plant that doesn't survive. Now shipping is a flat rate which is another plus. Still helping out my daughter with her gardens as the prior owners let everything go for about 4 years. This has turned into a monumental task and as I clear each space, I order from SRG as their prices are reasonable especially during their early sale this year. Yes lately, some of the plants are arriving quite small, but mostly they survive. You can't beat their ornamental grasses for price or health. Each online site I shop on have their specialties-this one really excels in the grasses. Will continue to give them my business. On July 2nd, 2013, plantgnome1 added the following: My rating will never change for this company-I have placed numerous Spring orders and all received in great shape and healthy. Some customer actually complained about Bargain Bench Hosta-they must be kidding-when your getting a $13.00 plant for 2.99-are you expecting a freshly dug and potted Hosta?? I have purchased numerous Hosta from the Bargain Bench and they are thriving-when you get a root bound plant just cut off the very bottom with garden shears, spread the roots with your hands and plant it. The ones I got this Spring are now huge. I have also had plants sent with wrong tags, have emailed Jude and received replacements free of charge with no questions asked. I have had a few not make it thru the winter, they were replaced free of charge. Shipping costs are the best in the market at this time-flat rate no matter how large your order is. Not like others who increase the shipping costs as your total goes up. As for Big Box store plants, some are diseased (most hosta are virused at the Big Box Stores) and they don't replace your plants. I am happy with and will continue to fill up my gardens with SRG plants. On May 26th, 2014, plantgnome1 added the following: After this past horrible winter, I lost numerous plants and the ones I got from SRG have been replaced free of charge this Spring. This year their sale is not as it has been in the past. Bought a few plants but not the large orders I have placed in the past as the sale is limited to only some of the plants. |

I just received my beautifully packaged shipment (why can't anyone else figure out how to flat-rate ship?) including the new Nepeta Junior Walker, which I have not found locally. All the plants are ready to go and grow! I love this nursery! |

They carefully waited to ship my order until after danger of frost had passed in my area. The plants were big, healthy and packed beautifully. They were obviously cared for with each one slipped into a protective net sleeve, as well as wrapped in a crush-proof layer of paper. There was absolutely no water stress as each plant arrived well hydrated and strong. They transplanted into my garden without a leaf out of place. Great job! |

I was very pleased with the quality of the plants that I received. Both of my banana plants are doing good indoors. Can't wait for spring to get them out doors. Anticipating many blooms from the other plants in the ground also. Highly recommend!!!!! Mike Burton |
