Ordered 4 crinum bulbs in late February. Company promptly gave me a shipping date for two weeks later. I don't believe my credit card was charged until shipping was done. Received box on Saturday, shortly after receiving my notice earlier in week that bulbs had been shipped. I know that size of bulbs vary greatly depending on the crinum, but all four bulbs appear to be blooming size for these particular crinums. Company has great service and prices, but don't offer much variety in crinums. They have lots of other bulbs and I will be ordering cannas and elephant ears next since I am pleased with this company.

I love this company! Some years ago I ordered 100s of bulbs from Brent & Becky's for fall planting. It was an end of season sale & the prices were unbelievably low- my expectations were to receive the dregs of their leftover stock but for those amazing prices it was soooooo worth the risk! I was overjoyed with the quality of the bulbs I received. They were large & firm, not a dud in the bunch. They were well-packaged in large plastic crates. I ordered Thalia daffodils, crocus tommasinius, anemones, ipheon & others. The ground was nearly frozen when I planted it all. In the spring I was thrilled by the beauty of the blooming display! Sadly, I divorced these wonderful plants in 2006. I have since relocated to a new home of my own and am now looking forward to doing busines with Brent & Becky's again :)

I have ordered from B&B many times. Service has always been excellent. Bulbs are among the largest I have encountered locally or mail order. I also get what I order. Have used some other companies and ended up with orange asiatics coming up instead of pink etc. Just placed an order for fall bulbs. Things went well as usual.

On February 13th, 2011, rabbitsdiner added the following:

Since my last comment...received my order of beautifully sized bulbs. I had placed a smaller order than usual...some things I had thought of and wanted to order immediately, to make sure they were in stock. I intended to return and order more but didn't get to it! (Oops!) Next year will order many more. Later I had a bit of a crisis. I had a miscommunication with my wonderful gardener. The bulbs that she planted had a fertilizer overdose. I called B&B for advice. They said Brent himself was in the office and turned me over to him. He was so pleasant, knowledgeable (of course) and helpful. I emailed a thank you for their kindness and received a lovely response from Becky! These are wonderful, expert, professional people with fabulous products. It's such a privilege and pleasure to do business with this company.

Spring 2009 I purchased two sets of Crocosmia bulbs from Brent and Beck's Bulbs. They were much smaller than Crocosmia bulbs I have planted in the past. True to their disclaimer, the bulbs sprouted but did not flower the first year. I fertilized with bulb food and mulched the bed over the winter in anticipation of beautiful long-stemmed, hummingbird enticing plumes of Crocosmia in Spring 2010. I waited May, June, July, August, but no green shoots, much less flowers. When I called B&B to request a replacement, their manager wasn't in, but would call me back. Several days went by and the same person I had previously spoken to left me a voicemail that since the bulbs had been green the year before, I should have added fertilizer and essentially it was my fault that the bulbs never bloomed. I have gardened for over 40 years and have hundreds of daffodils, iris, lillies, tulips, etc. etc and have successfully grown Crocosmias in the past. B&B should have certainly replaced the bulbs or offered a refund. That will be the last time I purchase anything from B&B.

I ordered four times directly from Brent and Becky's Bulbs this year. The number of bulbs ordered was about 950 bulbs. Most of the orders where for spring blooming bulbs for 2007. The website, as well as the catalog, are precise, easy to use and their bulb selection is the most extensive I've seen in the industry for the U.S. gardener. Their prices are competitive and the shipping is very fair. Their fall sales are a terrific way to indulge and experiment with some of the more unusual items. It was hard to wait for the final mark down, but I received a good portion of what I selected and the size and condition of the bulbs was as good as it gets. I posted a picture of a clump of a Hippeastrum, 'supreme Garden' that I received this past week in the bulb forum as an example of a terrific bulb. It was incredibly generous. The lilies I planted from them last summer all did splendidly. Patti

I once again ordered a bunch of bulbs on July 17Th 2009 from Brent and Becky that included 15 different Narcissus, 16 different Tulips, 3 different Iris and 7 other types of Alliums, Crocus, Anemone and Muscarii. I am happy to rave about the whole process. They are very organized with the invoicing, shipping and as well as with the quality of bulbs. I love this company and their customer service people. They are always quick to advise if something is unavailable or not up to their standards and are happy to fix the problem in any way that will make the customer happy. What a concept in this day. Thanks again, Patti

My 2010 fall bulb order arrived as requested recently and was, as always first rate. They always have provide great communication and packing with my multiply orders placed each year. I have ordered many thousands of bulbs and some bare rooted plants from them over the last few years and I have had not one complaint about their offerings. Their website is clear and easy to use. They also supply the most useful planting information which I can trust. I always feel that this company, though a mail order site for me, is like a friendly old local business, I feel that they pay attention to all their customers like old friends. I can't wait for their 2011 catalog with their spring offerings which will be a sure sign for me that the new season has begun in earnest.

I have ordered bulbs from Brent and Beckys twice in the last few years and they have done very well. My latest aquisition was a order in May where I got two of their Amaryliss and planted them immediately. Worried a little because being in San Diego, I usually order them around Christmas and they usually bloom March, April, maybe May. So I wondered about planting them in June. Would they bloom? Well, right now I have the most gorgeous three huge blooming flowers, looking just beautiful and the second one, a white, has sent up a bloom stalk with about 4 buds on it, looking as if it's going to be as beautiful.

The two other bulbs I ordered at the same time have started showing and of course, I can't wait to see what they will be like. Very satisfied customer.

Let me preface this by saying, I’m no amateur. I’ve gardened most of my life; have my Master Gardener from VA; and have done estate gardening as a trusted “have at it” contractor, working for some extremely fussy ladies.

B & B’s, last year -

20 ($56.00) Polianthes - tuberosa 'The Pearl' - no flowers, not a one.
Carex phyllocephala 'Sparkler', $9.00 – died.
5 Uvularia grandiflora, $27.00 – struggled, but I put them in a pot, and have nursed them through. At least they came up this year.

No response to email, requesting credit. Now, mind you, I have been a good customer, also, and this is the first time I’ve ever asked for credit. I should have done so previously.

2008

5 ($65.00) Convallaria majalis variegate – ditto, uvularia, above. The pips were tiny, but you figure, hey, it’s Lily of the Valley, right? One was lost. The other four in the pot are still teeny.

Arisema sikokianum, $30.00. A very small ‘bulblet, didn’t make it through last winter – which was pretty mild, comparatively, with much snow ‘mulch’. It should be hardy in my zone.

10 tuberoses, two flowers.

I did get 20 lily bulbs from them in ’08 that are doing fine, however.

My take: they’re probably still good for bulbs? I did buy a load of minor bulbs from B & B’s in ’06, and they’re still doing pretty well. However, I won’t need any more bulbs for quite some time. The frosting on the cake here: no response to email, for big ticket items. Take that as you will.

Meanwhile, I’ve found Easy To Grow Bulbs. Huge tuberose clumps! And two good sized potted plants, verrrry well packed. I also gave them a positive review, and will be using them again.

I tried to place an order for the first time from Brent and Becky's this week and did not have a good experience. I ordered 10 Sedum rupestre 'Angelina' from the website. There was no information as to when these would ship but I assumed it would be for spring. I received an email a few days later stating that my order was scheduled to be fulfilled in September. After contacting customer service, they explained that Sedum is a fall shipping plant because it should not be planted in the spring. This was news to me since I have several types of sedums, all planted in the spring. In fact, being that I am in NJ zone 6b, small potted plants do not tend to survive the winters well when planted in the fall. I explained this to the representative, but she explained that she could not help me because they only ship this item in the fall. So I canceled the order.

Overall, I was left feeling that they (or at least customer service) was not very knowledgeable about the plants they sell especially when shipped to different climate zones (they are in Virginia). I also noticed that the hardiness of this item was incorrectly shown as zone 7 on their website when this species survives at least into zone 6. Another thing that concerned me was that the confirmation I received stated that I had order Sedum rupestre without specifying the 'Angelina' cultivar. Maybe a small item, but they are different plants that are both sold, so I was a little concerned. Not a very good experience from a company that does not seem very professional.

Hi, bjohn1974. Just read your post and I'm sorry that your experience wasn't an enjoyable one. We try to make everyone's experience easy and worry free.

On our home page at http://www.brentandbeckysbulbs.com, there is our Summer catalogue and our Spring/Fall catalogue. The words above our Spring/Fall Catalogue state "These bulbs can be ordered now and will be delivered in the fall which is the proper time for planting." Once you click that catalogue you go to the Main Spring/Fall page and above the "5% discount" logo, it states "Our Spring/Fall 2010 catalogue now activated - order now for delivery in the fall when it's the proper time to plant." I'm going to look at seeing if we can't make that a bold font to make sure it's easier for everyone to see.

This is the only time we have Sedum available. If we had some now ready to ship, we would have been more than happy to ship them to you. Our Customer Service folks grow much of what we sell, for their own knowledge. And we have found, however, that perennials planted in the early Fall get a better head start than ones planted in the Late Fall and tend to survive quite well once their roots are established.

We are looking into why the name of the Sedum did not appear on your confirmation. Thank you for bringing this to our attention! There is plenty of space for it, but for some reason our system has chosen to leave it out. Our IT guy is being contacted.

Thanks so much for your business, and if you have any other problems such as this, please feel free to call and ask for me directly.

As I'm landscaping my garden, I order hundreds of bulbs each year of many different varieties, but often look for value and varieties that bloom over different periods of the spring daffodil bloom season. (I also order other bulbs (e.g., tulips, crocus, narcisus, etc), but not as many due to required gopher protection.) I have ordered from numerous companies, but plan to just order this year from Brent and Becky's, due to quality, selection, and some value.

I found Brent and Becky's from Dave's garden website. I have ordered bulbs from Brent and Becky's bulbs for 4 years, so I'm relatively new customer, but over this period of time I have ordered over a thousand bulbs from them. I prefer bulbs from Brent and Becky's, as I receive high quality bulbs in good condition at the appropriate time to plant for my zone or as I request. I tend to order so that I receive 5-10% discounts (prepay) for early orders and receive my preferred variety of bulbs.

I have been discovering many varieties of bulbs that are new to me through Brent and Becky's expansive selection of bulbs. I really like Brent and Becky's individual bulb/plant descriptions and photographs. Brent and Becky's provides details regarding the size of the bulb that you can expect in the bulb description. They offer discounts for quantities.

I love the catalog and enjoy just looking at it, but to save paper I requested no catalog and order exclusively online. The bulb/plant online search engines for selecting bulbs and plants are great, as they provide many options: zone, bloom season, color, height, family, nick name, divisions, favorites, etc. The search engine would be better, if it included price options (e.g., bulb/quantity (as price changes for larger quantities and I’m also looking for value through the expansive catalog), etc.) It would also be nice, if they would include bonus bulbs in each order, but they don't.

I would recommend taking advantage of their clearance bulbs sales later in the year, but some of ny preferred bulbs are sold out - a risk. I also order from a couple other companies and bought bulbs at a warehouse store last year, but these are generally much smaller and seemingly lower quality by appearance (look scarred or battered.) Even the high quality nursery stocks of bulbs often appear smaller than Brent and Becky's bulbs.

Last year, in 2009, I did order plants, bare root day lilies and dahlias, during a 50% off plant sale at Brent and Becky’s. A few Roots from the daylily packages were missing, rotten or small. I contacted Brent and Becky's and they did not offer to replace the missing or diseased daylily plants or offer a refund. As the remaining daylily roots, generally survived, I believe the clearance price was as reasonable as warehouse stores. The Dahlias arrived in much better condition and all bloomed. I would consider the risks of purchasing discounted plants, as you might enjoy purchasing plants that you would otherwise not purchase due to cost.
