I just placed my order with Brent and Becky's Bulbs for 50% off of their summer stuff. Last year I had success with the bulbs I got, which I was proud of since it was my first year at gardening! Their customer service was very nice, in fact I got to place my order with Becky this time! Their information and instructions are very helpful and are easy to understand. For the person who had a complaint about their discount timing, I had the same experiance last year and the reasoning I got was something like "When you buy a car or go to the grocery store and the next day the price is discounted, you can't go back and ask for todays price on yesterday's merchandise." Made sense to me, which is why I waited for the 50% off this time! Helps to be a savvy shopper! :)

Stuff is great. The dahlias were intertwined with roots. They were growing already when I got them. I ripped them apart and planted them and 1 week later they are up 3 inches already. The elephant ears are pricey but healthy and growing very well when you get them. They all had 1 leaf already and were about 6 inches tall. Very happy. Will use for special stuff and their cheaper daff/tulip specials.

bulbs i ordered for fall planting were delivered at appropriate time, were very nice sized, very clean. can't report on survival yet, it's still snowing here! also ordered elephant ears, cannas, callas, and dahlias. they arrived this week. i did note that they would be going in a greenhouse, so this is good timing for delivery as well. the elephant ears all came potted in 4" pots, very happy looking, no damage. callas and dahlias are very nice size also, excellent condition. will order from them again.

I ordered from Brent and Becky's Bulbs with good results in 2000 and 2001. In 2002, however, B&B's Bulbs sent dead Anemone coronaria (de Caen) corms AND charged for chionodoxa that were not shipped. I notified the company twice, by email, of the dead corms and overcharge. There was no response.

In the past, Becky Heath has done business by email. I send my orders that way, orders are confirmed by email, and Becky notified me by email (at the last minute, when the order was due) that the chionodoxa I had ordered for Fall 2002 were not good and could be not shipped. Thus, I have no reason to believe that email is not a good way to notify the company of problems. Their failure to respond appears to be deliberate.

I had good results with the same Anemones in 2001, so the issue is not climate, soil, or planting techniques. My best guess is that the award B&B got from American Horticultural Society last year so increased their business that quality controls are entirely lost.

Bottom line: Brent & Becky's Bulbs notified me in November 2002 that part of the order I had due would not be available (chionodoxa). The company shipped part of the order, the Anemones, and charged me for both parts: chionodoxa and Anemones. By early March, 2003, it was clear that the anemone corms had been dead material. I pointed out both problems to the company. No one from B&B's Bulbs has responded.

My next step will be to notify the Better Business Bureau and their State A.G.'s office. I suggest that anyone looking for plant material look elsewhere.

On March 18th, 2003, PatriciaCrav changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following:

Becky Heath sent a note explaining personal reasons for the delay in responding to my letter. These things happen. The company will be refunding my costs for dead plants and for the chionodoxa.

Can't say enough good things about Brent & Becky's. The bulbs I ordered from them in the fall were all big and in the best condition I'd ever seen. They also have a fantastic selection of unusual bulbs as well as the stardard varieties. The people there are very helpful. The planting chart in the back of the catalog is a great quick reference.

This is a great company with excellent quality fall planted spring bulbs & good customer service. They have been good about replacing or refunding for any problem bulbs which is rarely necessary. They were one of the only sources of un-divided Anemone blanda 'White Splendour' tubers which provided a carpet of long lasting blooms in the spring. We were also surprised by a gift of Paperwhites & Amaryllis (plus a few other bulbs) sent to us in December for winter forcing as a 'thankyou' for our order. I'm not certain how large an order has to be to merit their gift bulbs.

I have ordered from B&B many times and ALWAYS had great success! The catalog and website are both good. I live in hot and humid zone 9, and like the ease of navigating through their web selections for my area. The packaging is always excellent and my orders are always correct. I have spent a lot of $$$ here and will continue to do so. They are nice people, too!

I started to order from Brent & Becky's Bulbs a few years ago and have been very pleased with all the bulbs and service. The price was lower than Park's, higher than Van Engelen, but all the bulbs were exceptional. Most of the time I would rather pay more, because I have more trust in their quality than Van Engelen's.

I don't know about planting lilies in the fall. I didn't usually have good luck with fall deliveries from other companies. The lilies were oftentimes mushy upon arrival. If I hesitate to order for fall, I can always order from B & B for the following spring planting.

I highly recommend B & B to anyone who still hesitates to give them a try. You will not be disappointed.

On April 23rd, 2003, nunoi added the following:

Love Brent & Becky's bulbs. 29.5 lbs of them arrived over a week ago. Every single one of them was great looking.

The Lilies were enormous as usual, moist, with no rotten parts like the ones from other places. Much cheaper and much larger too.

I will enjoy the fragrance and the blossoms this summer.

I already compiled a long list to order from them for fall planting.

On August 22nd, 2003, nunoi added the following:

All the bulbs grew beautifully. There were numerous blossoms on each lily whereas lilies from other outfits would have only 1 or a few. One Lily Regale album carried 23! They perfumed the entire garden in the evening. I received the most compliments ever for them and have acquired more than one customers for B & B.

The fragrance for Freesia was heavenly.

Placed an order for over 2000 bulbs for this fall planting. The biggest order from B & B yet. Can't wait to see my garden next spring.
On Dec 23, 2004, nunoi changed their rating to neutral and added the following:

I have been a Brent & Becky's customer for several years and was very pleased with their bulbs, customer service & prices.

However, these past two years the delivery was late. Last year, a few of the bulbs were moldy. The customer service was short when I called about the bad bulbs.

Their lily bulbs are always excellent, though, always the largest in size.

With all the accolades, I wonder whether they thought they had all the customers in their hands, though, because this year the prices jumped at a breathtaking rate.

Their prices used to be comparable to Van Engelen. Now there is a HUGE difference. Only a few of B & B's items were sold at a lower price this year.

I used to split my order equally between the two. This fall, I only ordered from B & B those bulbs that I could not find at VE or the few that were lower. The bulk of my $1,500.00 bulbs order went to VE. Only about $150.00 was spent on B & B.

Too bad. I am waiting to see whether the lilies will cost much more next spring. I already saw a big jump from last spring to this fall on the same lilies.
On May 2nd, 2006, Pitimpinai changed the rating from neutral to negative and added the following:

I am sorry to say I will have to rerate Brent & Becky's. I have ordered so many Lilies from them for many years that my collection grew. I ordered another large collection last year. What a disaster. Several of the Orientals were infected with virus. They in turn infected my existing collection. I called the customer service and was told someone would get back to me. To date I have not heard anything from them.

Won't order anything from them again.

Brent & Beckys has twice given me very good service. The bulbs I ordered arrived at the right time, were good sized and in good condition. They are freindly and profesional. They have a real good selection of popular and heirloom and harder to find bulbs. Their prices are actually quite good. I would order more from them if they offered smaller quanities as they have a minimum that is higher than most other companies. A very good outfit altogether.

I cannot believe this company! I placed a order on 5/20 after receiving an email from them advertising 25% off all remaing bulbs a few days earlier. I placed my order and then on 5/23 I get another email saying that it is now 50% off!! Obviously the stock is exactly the same. I called the next day to ask for the discount to be applied to my order since it didn't seem fair to be punishing customers to replying earlier to the 25% off offer. Becky actually answered the phone and essentially told me it was too bad, they just "suddenly" to lower the prices more. She said curtly she would "see what she could do and contact me later". Of course she never called back. They have lost one loyal customer. I hope to be able to refuse the shipment and get a refund but who knows.
On May 28th, 2003, miss_amy added the following:

Dear New2it, I don't think a savvy shopper is one that waits for the last possible minute... You were just a lucky shopper. I think a savvy shopper is one that shops at companies that cares about their customers and not risk turning off them off by boucing prices up and down. There are plenty of stores that do give price adjustments within 30 days if a item you bought was marked down subsequently( Stop n' Shop supermarkets is one example). All this pricing boucing does to the company is make their customer base wait until the last possible moment to buy and not consider paying full price there again.

I have heard and read nothing but good about Brent and Becky's. They have a fantastic web site and an excellent reputation. So I was surprised to find that one set of crocosmias I ordered from them sprouted very poorly. Fewer than a quarter came up and those were weak and sickly. Another type of crocosmia from the same order, planted four feet away, sprouted vigorously and completely. Three e-mails later, I am still waiting for a response.

I ordered from B&B's for the first time this year, about 300 bulbs of mixed varieties. The bulbs arrived exactly on the day the company said they would, very nicely crated and labeled, with detailed planting instructions. I was thrilled with the size and health of the bulbs! A few days later I got a postcard thanking me for my order - a nice touch. The bulbs are already putting up robust shoots. The web site was great - easy to navigate, nice pictures and lots of plant details. I will definitely order from this company again.

I have ordered from them several times (most recently in September 2000) and in each instance the service was excellent as was the quality of the bulbs. Their sales make some of the choicest items available even more cheaply. Orders arrive within a few days, are well packaged, and even have identifying plastic tags which are such a help when I'm in too much of a hurry to prepare a proper label. Their website is especially nice since pictures of many if not all the bulbs are available. Colors seem to be quite accurate too.

I ordered 200 bulbs from them in late summer 1999, 100 mixed daffodils and 100 mixed perennial tulips. They arrived in November (appropriate for my zone) and I planted them all out soon after they arrived. Somehow, 268 plants came up! That seems like quite a lot of extras to me. Every one is blooming now or has buds. Additionally, I ordered 200 tête-à-tête miniature daffodils in late November; they sat in my house for 2 weeks before I planted them, and every one had sprouted by the time I planted them December 15th of an extremely wet winter. I gave half of them to my mother, who neglected hers even further, planting them AFTER CHRISTMAS. Well, every bulb sprouted and bloomed in both my garden and my mother's.For the person who wrote about their non-responsiveness to email in the fall: their site was offline for about a week due to the hurricane, and all their mail spooled into the bit bucket as a result. I phoned them to let them know the site was down, and they explained the situation to me.I am planning to place another LARGE order with Brent and Becky in Fall 2000. They seem to me an extremely reputable company, and I am glad to give my business to them.
