I put down some slow-release Miracle-Gro- the little beads you shake out of the bottle - and then a couple of tiems in the spring with liquid MG attached to the hose, Mary.
Lilies: 2009 Blooms III
One word! Gorgeous!!! What a heavenly place to be to enjoy lilies! Wonderful job there Steve!
Its so beautiful there in that garden shot. I just love your neighbors, got a big chuckle out those sweet faces. They seem very interested in what your doing over on your side of the fence.
As to those Pink Giants, well, I can only try to immagine ones I bought looking that great. That is some gorgeous lily. Mine have not even come up yet. Thats what I get for planting so late.
I like the White Trumpets too :-))
Beautiful Steve! Are the white ones 'Long Island' ?
Thanks you guys ^_^
The white ones are Long Island, pixie, you are correct. I like them so much I am going to order more this fall!
Were do you get those Long Island White Trumpets?
Wow, Steve. You've made such incredible progress on your garden. It's progressing at double the normal pace. Your lilies are so wonderful.
I have a little clump of Casa Blancas that I think are virused. They seemed to develop streaky leaves AFTER I moved them away from all my other CBs, which are healthy. Since they are isolated, I let them bloom. What the heck? As long as other lilies aren't endangered, let them party down!
Donna
I think I got them at B&D, Rita.
Thanks Donna! Yeah, I found another "Satisfaction" that appears to be virused but it is close to lots of others, so I think I need to pull them.
Steve, your gardens are a big slice of heaven. ;) I so look forward to logging in and seeing what you have blooming each day. :) Please keep the pictures coming!
Thanks Diann :-) In your own right, your peony gardens look wonderful!
I have some phlox in my mixed perennial beds, but I need to be careful, because phlox can tend to mildew on me...
I'm easedropping on your thread. I am just loving to see all your pictures and read what you have to say. I'm new at lilys and think I could become an addict. I think my favorite looking ones so far are the ones you are calling LA hybrids. The ones you have gemini_sage, especially.Where can I get some and is it too late? Hope you all don't mind me barging in.
Lynda
Great looking lilies as always Steve. Love you clump of Pink Giant. That's one I just planted last fall and am excited to see bloom the first time.
Welcome Lynda! It's easy to get addicted to lilies. The LA's are really nice and I also love the OA's and OT's because I don't do well with orientals, but can get the look with those.
Susan
Steve, your flower beds are so clean compared to my grassy mess. A weed must be scared to even show its head for fear of being pulling out!! LOL
Might just have to order some of those "Long Island" this fall. After cleaning up the lily beds from weeds, discovered I have some missing, so our hard winter claimed some more victims.
Maxine
Love the garden shot, Steve! Your LOs are gorgeous, Bright Brilliant looks a lot like a Lily I worked with as a cut flower last weekend. I'd ordered white Orientals for the bride's bouquet (I was in a friend's wedding last weekend and did the flowers for it), and received what I think were either OTs or LOs- they were so waxy and perfect, like your pic!
I love the combination of Phlox and Lilies! The contrast in forms is gorgeous, and here they bloom with Orientals.
Great pictures and yard, Steve! I love all the lilies and I like the neighbors too! Especially as there is a fence between them and the gardens LOL
The phlox and lilies are a great combo pixie and Steve.
Beautiful lily lilylove.
Welcome Lynda_45, it might be getting a little late for you, but fall is coming sooner than we want and then you will have many 'hard choices' to make; like which vendors and which varieties or cultivars!!!!!!
Pixie, Gorgeous combo!
Ahhhhh, Steve's OTs are coming on...what a treat! 'Long Island' is to die for, seriously. The best thing about the LOs (besides being gorgeous and having a great scent) is that they tend to multiply nicely, unlike their oriental relatives.
As for phlox, there are some really great mildew resistant varieties out there. I have tried to stick with those. There are several.
Can't wait to see more.
I absolutely adore all the pics, Steve those pooches look like they were begging to be photographed. how sweet!
I got some phlox from last yr's coop and the red ones are coming back. I just got some as an experiment, not really thinking this plant would like our hot, hot weather, but there's hope. I know John Fannick is one that is successful here, I may just try to get some and interplant w/ lilies.
I have lots of buds but no flowers yet, except for Dazzle. That one is on its 3rd yr in my garden. Love it and recommend it.
I think I have Pink Giant, but my flowers look smaller than the ones you have posted here. This one is on its 2nd year and I would definitely love to get some more. Yours are so lovely and BIG
Pard, that Soiriee is pretty.
Taj--that is a wild looking lily.
Beautiful lilies and garden Steve.
That Backhouse is beautiful Gemini.
Those are strange Moby but then what else would I expect. ;-) I do like that little pink one, whatever it is.
your lollipop has caused me to put lollipop in the short list for next yr.
Beautiful blooms Jmorth!
Jmorth,
Send some of those beauties up here. Mine are still in bud (albeit very bodacious bud)..
Wow, LO's are just about the only kind of lily I don't have. For years the story was that you couldn't grow longiflrums in this climate, so I just annualized with longiflorum/formolongi from seed. Seeing these gorgeous things, especially Steve's makes me thing that some additions to my beds may be MANDATORY!
