2009 Blooms II

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Beautiful yellow mass Steve....it's stunniing!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

When you buy and plant, no telling what someone like me will end up with either. Buy now, figure out where to go with it later. Lol. Sometimes it accidentally turns out matching in color, but most of the time it turns out to be a bunch of perfectly beautiful lilies I picked out and no rhyme or reason to the pattern. What's even worse, when you *try* to be organized and plant short things in front, only to expand the same bed each year, not always remembering to move the shorter ones back into the front row.

Love that 'Tamburo' Steve. Did it multiply much for you over the last year? I know it's an LA, and often they do. The pinks and the yellows are lovely.

My biggest challenge in a new garden (now 4 years old) was to try to get a continuous show of color. Lilies are so helpful with this!! They are some of the earliest and longest bloomers, and, at least in my zone, the asiatics and LA's are followed by the orientals, in between all the daylilies. It's been trial and error and I'm certainly not finished by any means, but it's gettin' there.

Wow, how did I miss this entire thread until now? The beautiful images are hard to take in all at once. Wonderful!

when I do a flower bed sun or shade is always the first then I have what I call my old favorites for both so I usually start with them since I know that they will give me blooms spring, summer, and fall then I add new plants by how tall, color, and foliage to fill in I always space out the perennials at least three feet apart and will fill in with annuals as needed to give it a better color and fullness for a few years, I always add one row or two at the front of home seeded annuals to give a constant bloom, I also like to plant in groups so if I decide a section is mostly echies I will plant in odd numbers like three or five of complementing colors for a wow effects

all the bs I just wrote is always my good intentions and some actually get done that way but sometimes I just see something I really want that it doesnt really go but in it goes since it will make me happy and I dont care what others will think hahahahhahah

Mona, I just about snorted my salad when I read that second paragraph of yours.. ;) LOL That's great, and it's exactly how things get done at my place. ;) LOL

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I always start out out with a plan...but it alway gets abandoned along the way....I just buy what I like and then try to find a place to put it!! I am the kind that will buy just 1 bulb of something if I like it.

All of mine have buds...just waiting now!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

My first ~ it's very early due to being in a protected area and at the south end of the house.

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

Well, I am zone 6/7 here on Long Island, NY but not even close to blooms yet.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Wow, Moby, that's a beauty! Who is it?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Me neither.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

burst my bubble!
Hi Pirl!

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

welcome abloom moby

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

No name ~ just a pretty lily I got from a dear friend. I don't know why it's so early, the other lilies in this bed are at least a couple weeks away from blooming. Even my pixies haven't started yet.

Thomson, GA

I have no idea what this one is, and it seems to be the only one of these I have thus far. I'm not really sure that I planted it?? Seems to be with a bunch of jester glads I planted last year.

OOOOH, you got a poly! Cancun? maybe or Giraff?

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh!! I think it's diseased! You need to dig it up and send it to me right away... (not buying it are you?) It's a beautiful lily..

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Congrats Moby on your pretty red lilies!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Yeah, the red matches her back.... Doesn't it Mary? :)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

We should be next Pixie, but I don't have anything that even looks close. Only the cheaters (cheater lilies). I picked up a cheater 'Tiny Athlete' the other day,and although I have one, I had to have another that was instant gratification. Maybe that's what they should be called IG Lilies (instant gratification: the no waiting lily). Lol.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

I have some Martagons coming.... ;) They must like where they are cause they aren't pouting at all.. :) LOL

Did you get those marties at our Spring sale? Aren't they doing fantastically well? 3 of my 4 are up and looking really good.

Why, yes Ticker, that lily matches my back quite well. :p
Thanks for bring it up.... (owww)

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks Tracey, Diann, Pixie :-) Yes Tracey, the Tamburo has increased its bud count and size over last year but next year will tell if it multiplies or not :-) I haven't noticed more srouts this year. We shall see - I love it and I hope so!

Another season opener, I think this is either red or crimson pixie.

Love it, nice and cheery!

Ok, now I know I need more rest. I was taking photos of my blooms, trying to get them done before the rain came. I noticed that pretty orange bloom was different from the rest of my orange ones, but it didn't even register HOW different. I do have about 2 dozen Giraffe in other areas, and a Cancun in the back yard. I still don't think I planted this here. I had a large bag of Jester bulbs and planted most of them here, and am wondering if it was misbagged?

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Where did you get them, do you remember?

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

lillies are so wonderfull they make such a wow in the garden

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

This will be my 4th Lily to bloom in the garden. Just one single bloom on this stalk, made me think it maybe a baby bulb formed recently. But where is the parent bulbs? I haven't seen them yet.

...and then, and then ... could it be 'Star Gazer' next? LOL, holding my breath with anticipation!

Nice dark red lily Moby. You're way ahead of me and I'm further south (by at least 3 miles). ;-)

Lily_love, very eye catching lily. Do you know the name of it?

Thomson, GA

Ticker,I seem to remember an ebay transaction, butI'll havetogo back and check when I have some time.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Daltri, unfortunately I don't know the names to most of my lilies. So if anyone recognizes any of mine, you're welcome to give it a name. lol.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Did they have names at one time? Looks like King Pete http://bdlilies.com/l1029.html

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Moby, I may have gotten that K.P. look alike in a mix bunch of lilies. We'll call it a NOID yellow, how about that? K.Pete is really lovely however! :-)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

It's still lovely, with or without a proper name.

Thanks for the link Moby. It looks close enough to add the name to my list of wants.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Moby, that red is gorgeous!..and so is yours, jmorth!

Steve, I'm loving those big wads of color!...and green with envy at the neatness of your beds, LOL. Actually, you've been inspiring me to get out and edge and define beds like a fiend- thanks! And I've got some great clumps of LA hybrids blooming that are in beds in desperate need. Well, they're not actually even in beds, but places where beds exist only in my mind, LOL. Made great progress today and expect to have them picture worthy tomorrow. My first and only Martagons are in there blooming too (2nd year)! Those babies gotta shine!

I'm thrilled to have Lilies in full bloom in May. For the first time I can remember, I have all my favorites in bloom at the same time, Lilies, Roses, Iris, and Peonies :-)

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

that really looks like star gazer I have lots of them planted a row and they have multiplied cant wait to see them bloom this summer

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

What I thought was a 'Star Gazer' turned out to be this unknown, light pink Asiatic Lily. Anyone recognizes it? I looks very much like the melon or peach color lily that I had bloomed earlier.
