Cathy,

I LOVE your seedling you posted above!! B2D

Your bi-color 'broken-color' seedling is wonderful! I have seen nothing like it to date. It looks to have decent form too. I'd certainly keep that one around and possibly even introduce it if everything else looks good too.

You should be proud!

Hello I enjoy Iris I just wish they bloomed longer, is there away to keep them Blooming longer?
Margiempv said the picture of her Iris is a seedling, I am wondering How long does it take to get a pretty flower from a seed to that size of plant? Thank You

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

You can't really keep them blooming longer but if you buy a mix of miniatures, standard dwarf bearded, tall bearded and spurias or Louisianas, they will bloom over a longer period of time. Also you can buy rebloomers and in your area you should be able to get some rebloom from them, mostly in the fall. That helps a lot.

Hi Marcia,

To answer your question - - once the seed has sprouted in the spring), it may take anywhere from one year to three years to it's first maiden bloom. However the best bloom (to see what the plant is actually capable of) is in the following year when it blooms the second time. First year blooms can be deceptive. Many times the better form, the better branching, substance, and even the exact shade of color(s) won't appear until it's second year of bloom.

I can attest to one thing: it is definitely worth the wait! ^_^

Thank you so much I appreciate the input.

Have no idea what the name of this TBI is. I thought at first that it was Ice Cream Treat, but it's not frilly enough. Any ideas? All of our iris are Cooley's if that helps. ^_^

You were not kidding, I had a dog, that just got behind and I had planned on digging on putting on compost, glad I did not as this year (3rd) it is something I will be keeping and introducting soon.
