Hummingbird Sitting on Nest!

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

in one seed catalog I got, they said "Salvia" "The subject of unabashed adoration by feasting hummingbirds ..."
I guess they do tend to like it.

I thought i wasnt supposed to put bleach, the smell would remain. However, my feeder is mostly glass; the only plastic is where the hummers put their beaks in to feed.

our wallyworld is putting new ones out for spring. several are glass, several are plastic. i'm not sure what's the best so i thought I'd wait to see if someone comments here. ;)

I have used the same plastic feeders for about 5 years now.. why, you ask?? Because I have PICKY HUMMERS!! LOL
I have bought new plastic feeders, new glass feeders, new plastic that are round, new ones that are tall. Some artistic ones that are glass globes. Do they use any of those?? NO.. they fight over the ones that I've had forever! What in the world am I going to do when I can't find these anymore??

Because of our Oklahoma heat and wind, I prefer the plastic..can't break those easily :) I use about a capful amount of bleach in dishwater and that's how I clean mine. Must not bother them, since they prefer those very same feeders and totally ignore any others! Crazy birds.. LOL!

I have glass and plastic and I don't really care which one I use as long as it is easy to clean. If they came more often I might get some nice looking ones, but they are only here in the fall.

And this one from First Nature is cheap, easy to clean and they like to use it. I love the wide-mouth design.

I like how big the ones from First Nature look - and easy to clean is great.

I had the exact opposite experience, mine won't eat from the plastic only the glass? crazy birds indeed!

The one from First Nature is one that they ignore LOL..

The second one has potential.. I may buy one and see what happens!

WM has the ones like First Nature for less than $4.00, but I found that because I already have one of the Hummzingers they like it much better. When one is chasing another though they will sneak a drink at it.

I have a couple of the First Nature $4.00 feeders from WM and my humers like them I guess. Last Sept during migration there were 8 hummers feeding at the same time at the same feeder. That day there were more hummers than feeding stations. I needed more than 2 feeders during migration. It sure was fun for me. Just 15 days until they normally start arriving here on March 17 according the the Ruby Throated web site.

GUESS WHAT I FOUND TODAY? (Yes, I am shouting, I am totally excited!) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/963526/

I figured I'd start a new thread for this new adventure :-)
